So then by your logic Jackiemom, I should have given up my daughter who is the only link I have to her father? Her father who commited sucide in his barracks room in Italy from PTSD which he got after serving 2 tours in Afangistan and whom I loved very much. What a cold and callous thing to say.

ETA: I am also not on any state programs, I DO NOT abuse my daughter, I am an Army Reservist and I got to school full time getting a nursing degree all to make sure my daughter has everything she needs.
I am so sorry. God bless you and your daughter. You are a strong person.

I am completely shocked by this thread. I completely understand sex out of marriage is wrong, but for those of you saying we should not be proud, stand tall, get showers or even be respected for being single mothers are completely out of line. For all of you judging the single mom’s out there why don’t you take a number and step into a confession line for judging others because the last time I checked that was looked down upon also. I’m not sitting here asking for any kind of recognition of being a single mother but I do not expect people to look and judge before they even know my story. I am a single mother, and a proud one. And my child isn’t suffering at all. She is a beautiful, smart, God loving child that is surrounding by many loving family and friends. I think many of you should take a step back and think about what you say before you go around bashing people left and right.
Yes.👍👍👍

Emotions are running high here. A lot of people are taking it way too personally. There are a lot of heroic single mothers and I know a lot of them in my own extended family. No, I don’t judge them or look down at them.

The fact still remains that a child does well with a good mother and a good father.
I actually had someone tell me that I should give a shot at being a mom even if I was single because single moms are the in thing now. I replied that a child needs not just a good mother but also a good father. I realize that there are less than ideal circumstances which causes a child to be raised by a single parent (single mother or single fathers) and I salute all of you who are doing your best to raise a child by yourself, but I will never volunteer to be a single mother. Before anyone takes offense at this, this is what I chose for myself and is in no way meant to put down anyone else here.

OK, but the question of the thread is this: Does the pro-life movement encourage women who find themselves pregnant outside of marriage to believe that giving their child away to a stranger or ending the child’s life are NOT the only bearable options? Does the pro-life movement teach that it is morally better to raise a child on your own than to end its life by abortion? Does the pro-life movement say “if you can’t bear to give your child up for adoption, but would keep it instead of getting an abortion if you wouldn’t be condemned for being a single mother, then keep the child, and we will not condemn you”? Absolutely, the pro-life movement teaches that, and should teach that.

The pro-life movement does not say, do not worry about chastity, because if you get pregnant outside of marriage, everyone will support you. Sure, everyone will support you, but being a single parent is hard, and even if it weren’t, sex belongs within marriage for a reason. No one is out there lying about that point in order to prevent abortions. You don’t serve the truth by lying to people. So in that sense the pro-life movement does not encourage single parenthood.

I agree.

Guess what, most people have sex out of wedlock, no matter who raised them. And when your kid does it, you can blame it on their upbringing too. As for abortion, my fiance who was raised by two married devout catholics is completely on board with that as well.

And frankly, it’s pretty horrible for you to tell someone that they didn’t turn out right and that it’s because their mother wasn’t married. And by the way, my mom was married when she got pregnant. But her devout Catholic husband had a drinking problem and beat her, so she left him to protect me. I was brought up in a Christian home, I was surrounded by love, and I had good, strong male role models.
I know I will cause offense when I say that children are better off in a home with a good mother and a good father since people will interpret it to mean that I look down on people who come from single parent homes or I look down at single mothers. No, I do
not.

When I counseled at a CPC we wondered if perhaps we were encouraging single motherhood. After all we offered financial and even a JUCO scholarship. we decided that know we were not promoting single motherhood-we were promoting motherhood.

I agree with you-but they are better off with with just a mother rather than being dead.

There is no such thing as taking it “too personally” as you say when it comes down to being a mother or a father. Having that role is blessing given only by God. I think he knew what he was doing when he gave one of his children to me knowing I would raise this little blessing by myself. You may “think” children do better with a mother and a father but the truth is God makes no mistakes. He trusted me to be a mother of a beautiful daughter and although it is just me and her there is nothing we cannot handle together with God by ourside. So maybe you should think about changing your view to it being necessary to have a mom and dad to it’s necessary to have someone that loves you and God by yourside.
