PhilVaz,
The sun which separates night from day was created on the fourth “day.” Hebrews 4 says God is still resting in the seventh “day.” These are not literal days according to the Bible. Your response?
I am assuming you are refering to Hebrews 4:4.
Hebrews 4:4
For He has thus said somewhere concerning the seventh day, “AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS”;
Here Paul states in Scripture is clear that God “Rested” on the seventh day. Not that he is still resting, but Rested is past tense and on the seventh day, a literal day.
Here is another from Exodus 20:8-11
Exodus 20:8-11
8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.
11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.
God himself told Moses in the commandments that the people are to keep the Sabbath. Why? Look at verse 11. God created all in 6 days and “rested”, again past tense, on the seventh day, a literal day.
Exodus 31:12-17
12 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
13 "But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
14 'Therefore you are to observe the sabbath, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people.
15 'For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death.
16 ‘So the sons of Israel shall observe the sabbath, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.’
17 “It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”
Again look at verse 17, God states that the LORD made all in 6 days, and on the 7th day he rested. These are literal days.
We can look at Genesis use of the phrase prior to each “day”, “And the evening and morning were the … day”
Using the Strong’'s Hebrew and Greek Dictionary here is the definition for the words used for evening and morning
evening
‛ereb
eh’-reb
dusk: - + day, even (-ing, tide), night.
morning
bôqer
bo’-ker
properly dawn (as the break of day); generally morning: - (+) day, early, morning, morrow.
God qualified each of the days of creation with this phrase. Why did he do this? Maybe because he foresaw the current attack on His account of creation, I do not know. All I know is that God’s Word is true and he did include it.
As for Adam and Eve and the Fall, what does the traditions of the church actually teach about this. Was there a physical man named Adam and Woman named Eve, or are these symbolic of all men and women? Were they a product of evolution? What was the actual act of original sin they did? Were other men and women evolved other than Adam and Eve? I am not being silly here, I am serious in these questions.
How does the church determine which of God’s Word is literal and which is symbolic?
