You are correct that this is a big reason that led to me leaving the church. I don’t think I’m “disobeying”, and I don’t think I’m engaging in something “temporary” at the cost of what would essentially be damnation. I think it couldn’t be farther from the truth that God disapproves of my marriage and family.
This can be difficult for some still in the church to understand, but once I left and allowed myself to think for myself (not saying those in the church don’t think for themselves, just saying I didn’t), I found too many contradictions that were impossible to ignore.
This led me to permanently leave not just the church, but in many ways Christianity itself. At least, organized Christianity. I simply believe how I’ve interpreted. Some would make the argument that I’m picking and choosing, or bending something solid to my own benefit…but I’d counter that’s what we all do. How else do we have countless separate denominations?
And that’s just Christianity. I know Catholics like to insist they’re the end all, be all of Christianity, citing their evidence and history, but every single denomination of every single religion will have their own evidence, their own proof.
I choose not to partake in all of that. Me and god, we’re good. Just as many here are absolutely convinced I’m wrong, that I’m disobeying god, I’m lying to myself, I’m sinning…I am just as much convinced that they lack perspective and are incorrect themselves. The difference is I would never presume to know their relationship with god. I only know my own.
