'Divisive' billboard proclaiming 'America is a Christian nation' removed in Dallas

Not a great surprise. Obama could say America is a Muslim nation, but nobody dares say it’s a Christian nation.
 
i thought the billboard that was removed said
“if you are a liberal, keep driving until you leave the state of Texas.”
 
I can see why it would make some upset. There are Christians, non-christians, and people transitioning among religious positions in the USA. The USA is a nation of many.
 
America was a Christian nation. Lots of people, including people who claim to be Christian, have worked hard to make that no longer true.
 
The USA has always been a nation of people of many religious backgrounds and some that are not committed to any religion.
 
That is true but it was a Christian nation. It was founded by Christians. Its morals, laws, and customs come from Christianity.

It is true that the majority of founders were various sorts of Christians, but that does not make this a “Christian nation” any more than the fact that the majority of founders were white makes this a “White Nation.”
 
True, some founders were not Christians, but they aren’t the whole story. Many places in the US were settled precisely as a place for Christians fo practice their religion. The US had state churches and religious tests for offfice. Even if some founders were more deists they certainly weren’t Hindoo or Buddhist.

That just doesn’t make any sense. The US was a Christian, White nation. That is precisely what lots of people who aren’t in those groups complain about. I guess their complains are all without merit?

He did not say that the US is a Muslim nation. He talked of the total number of Muslims here and said that would make off one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. A turn of phrase - arguably better rendered as Muslim-populated countries in the world - especially in light of the lengths that some cannot resist going to spin a simple statement of fact into something nefarious.

But I note that @(name removed by moderator) already pointed this out to you, with the accurate quote, 1.5hr before you posted your link.

This claim is right up there with birtherism. Sad.

There’s not a dime’s worth of difference. Regardless, the point is the juxtaposition of his statement that the U.S. is NOT a Christian nation and his statement that it IS a Muslim nation.

Whatever he really meant by all of that can be explained by his fans, was then, and is now. But he said both things, and there’s no denying it.

He juxtaposed those two statements? That was not in the article and it was not in the linked video. When did he juxtapose those remarks?

I never said HE did juxtapose the two statements. You just asserted a factual error where there was none. Was that intended or an inadvertence?

I asked about that possibility that was consistent with the phrasing in your post. Note the question marks in my post.

If Obama didn’t make the juxtaposition - and the juxtaposition is just cutting an pasting out of context - please clarify.

Nothing to clarify. He said both things. The point all along was that Obama felt himself able to say America is a Muslim nation (and did) but couldn’t bring himself to say it’s a Christian nation (and wouldn’t).

The founders were white, but that still didn’t make it a white nation, even back then. Non-whites were a significant part of the population, even if only as slaves. This has never been a white nation, and the founders, although mostly Christians themselves, took deliberate steps to ensure it was not a Christian nation (in the sense of England). It was intended to be multi-religious from the very beginning.
