Hello all,
As a young adult Catholic, I have been swept into the world of video games. Now, I assume that there are other guys who play games out there, but are there girls? I’m just curious and want to know if you play. Also, what do you, guys and girls, play. Name your system. And whether you play online or not.

Example: Guy; X-box; not online; Halo 2 (presently)

This is just a bare-bones example. But, if you want to talk about gaming, go ahead. If you want to talk about the lack of good games, or something else, go ahead. Just want a general idea, if you are out there. Thanks.

I’m a guy and I own all 3 current consoles.

The only game I play online with any regularity is EQOA (Everquest Online Adventures) for the PS2, and I only play that a couple of hours a week.

Offline, I primarily play a little of just about everything: platformers, sports titles, fighters, RPGs (Role-Playing Games). I only play a few hours a week anymore, but I used to play quite a bit more in the past.

I am a guy and used to play lots of video games on the old Nintendo/SuperNES when I was a kid. But since college I’ve sorta out-grown it (okay, there was one semester of Halo, but that was it 🙂 ). My roommate in my apartment has nearly every game system and is playing right now…but my interest in gaming has all but gone. I’m sure this has to do with most games just being blood-and-guts, violence, etc., but I also just don’t like to play much any more.

That being said, I do quite a bit of work on GarageBand…are you sure we can’t consider that a game?

lol Yay, I’m the first gamer girl so far! 😃 I play mostly RPGs (and Devil May Cry). I’ve got a PS2 here at college and my computer, but I only play one online game - Guild Wars, because you don’t have to pay monthly for it. 👍 I don’t play too often any more due to school work, but I try and get a little gaming in every now and then.

I would return to MMORPGs except that my computer is not up to snuff these days (too expensive to keep upgrading to keep up with the latest graphics) and I got waaaaaaaaaaaaay too addicted to Ultiima Online back in the day (at least I made money in it though, sold houses for a while). I’ll stick to online games I can jump into and out of at a moment’s notice from now on.

BTW, do any other guys here find it kind of attractive when a girl is a gamer? I know that when I like someone, I like them even more when I find out they can beat the living daylights out of me in Counter Strike (and therefore would not be averse to enjoying videogames with me from time to time). I’m not talking couch potato gamers either. They’re unattractive no matter what gender. I mean someone who is already interesting just seems to become even more so when I find out that they game (any girls like fighting games? I haven’t found a good opponent in years).

Hey MEP,
I definitely agree that a girl who likes to play video games is more attractive to me. I suppose that is because there are so few girl gamers. To play a game with my prospective girl would definitely endear her closer to me. However, she would also have to enjoy getting out of the house, too.

Anyway, I am sadly dissapointed in the turn out on this poll. I thought there might have been more than 5-7 Catholic gamers out there. Oh well, I guess all the other Catholic gamers are on some other forum website.

To all of you who aren’t gamers . . . Why don’t you play?

I’m a 23 year old guy who still plays regular Nintendo once in a while–RBI baseball to be exact. I love that game! Especially the music:

Dun dun du-dun dun, dun dun du-dun dun, dun dun du-dun dun, dun dun, dun du-dun dun dun, dun du-dun dun dun, dun dun dun, dun dun dun, dun dun du-dun (and repeat).

No one can convince me that any modern baseball video game is better than good old RBI.

Girl

Xbox, NintendoDS, PC

ONLINE (that’s the only way to play CounterStrike, UO, and Warcraft)! I just adored playing Diablo and Diablo II.

Currently Playing: KOTORII (for the second time- I’m light side this time. Dark side was fun but for some reason made me feel ‘icky’. LOL)

Have my deposit on Xbox 360 high end console. Can’t hardly wait for Elderscroll IV:Oblivion.

Halo & II is fun to play with my pimpy gamer younger brother. He does all the “full on, get shot all to he**, while I cover his bum” 😉

Nintendo DS is fairly new to me (last spring), I’ve got a couple of Gameboy Advance games that I play on it, Zelda: Minish Hat, Crash Bandicoot (for my daughter), the remake of Mario 3 (which is really fun for me since I grew up on that game.) And the Mario Game for the DS system (name escapes me).

I wanted a handheld console that my 9 yo daughter could play with. I thought about waiting for the Sony handheld, but decided to go for the ‘kiddie’ version since it technically is for her. Anticipating the release of Castlevania (another great title I grew up on). 🙂

I LOVE GAMING. A GenX’er to my toes.

I must admit I like the First person shooter games.

Although since becoming a revert I feel quizy about games with human targets. Counterstrike, etc.

So my favs now are Doom3 and Painkiller.

Nothing like fighting off the demon hoards.

I was not so impressed with Doom3, Half-Life was way better (IMHO) and Painkiller was a riot (FarCry is pretty cool too, but kinda cartoony).

I’m awaiting the Doom movie coming out with Karl Urban and The Rock 🙂

It’s filmed like a first person shooter game (the camera looks from the shooters perspective over the barrel of the gun, shotgun, chainsaw- whatever the person happens to be holding. Looks very interesting. 🙂

CounterStrike is STILL my favorite first person shooter- online game though. Fast paced, quick turn around, cool graphics.

👍

Do you still need the original to play? I’ve always wanted to try this game, but I don’t have the original Half-Life anymore. One of the guys in my office just bought the whole Half-Life box set. COuld I use that disk?

You should be able to. Counter-Strike ‘Source’ is a stand alone game but when I bought it, it only came with Half-Life2. I’ll have to look and see if you can buy it seperately or not…

Ok, I checked… You can get the original Counter Strike: Condition Zero (4 years old or so) stand alone.

Otherwise Counter-Strike Source will need to be purchased with the Half-Life2 game package…

I personally recommend the Silver package. Day of Defeat ROCKS if you like “old war” fighting… Cool outdoor maps with trees and grass 🙂

it cost to much to play online and it takes to long borriiiiinnnnnnggggggggggg

Counter-Strike has no monthly membership. You purchase the software and play as much as you please…

Boring is relative 🙂

Girl, 23, married

Hubby and I both like to play games on our Nintendo Gamecube, and N64 before this system. Fav Games (of mine) are Mario Party, Mario Kart, Shrek 2, Any Zelda game, etc. Hubby likes anything with guns or bombs and lots of blowing up things.

We like computer games too - Myst, Lord of the Rings, puzzle games. We do not do any online games though.

I’m 23 and still play games now and then, sometimes onlie. I like warcraft 3, final fantasy and anything with a really good story.

I don’t really like first person shooters, they all seem the same to me.

Go strategy games!!!

Young adult Catholics??? What about us old folks. My wife keeps wondering when I will grow out of playing video games. Probably when arthritis sets in.

Older Gamers are perfectly welcome to post here. What is your system and what are you playing?
