Young adult Catholics??? What about us old folks. My wife keeps wondering when I will grow out of playing video games. Probably when arthritis sets in.

I hear you with the arthritis. I’ve been gaming for quite a while and my thumbs and fingers are getting a little worn. I’ve had to switch up which finger I use to hit the R1 button on the PS2 controller.

Of course it doesn’t help that I spend all day typing on the computer for work.

I’m a girl, I don’t play… and so far I’m apparently the only one!

I thought I would like Sims. I gave it a try, and even tried to make a sim family like my own with three kids, a stay at home mom etc. I was running around frantically cleaning up after them, we had no furniture or money, we ran out of food, the boy kept getting snacks out of teh cabinet… we were depressed and collapsing in the floor, my husband lost his job… we slowly died… It was so awful!!! Even the basic beginner programmed sims used for learning to play the game died on me.

My friend, who is a gamer said she has never met anyone who coudl kill of sims as fast as I. I never wanted to play it again. As a mom, I dont’ need *virtual *people to take care of.

I am awful at games of skill, I always fall off cliffs and could never get past the third level of Mario it is very stressful for me to try to play games. My husband was playing Morrowind for awhile and I thought I would like that but it took too much time! I am a Morrowind dropout.

if we spent more time being a family and praying the catholic church would be stronger then ever but we spend time on computers

Better shut down this forum, then, cause we’re all in trouble!

Hello Peace-bwu,

I wouldn’t suggest you give up on games totally. The particular games you chose are rather challenging. The Sims give you many decisions to make (as you probably discovered) while any games on the current consoles have many buttons, combos, and commands to memorize for their controls. Nobody in my family, parents or sister, can even handle the visual effects of any 3D game without suffering from motion-sickness. Therefore, I would recommend that if you are willing to give video games another try, give simple puzzle games like Tetris a chance. Now this is really old school tech but if you can find some titles like Atari Anthology or some other old school collection of games, you might find them enjoyable. Pong, a simple table-tennis sort of game, is a classic and just might be your cup of tea. The controls are simple and easy to learn. As is a game called Frogger. Here you have to try to make your frog jump across streets with traffic, over a river and make it into one of several caves. Now this can be very challenging but it could be something to shoot for. Finally, my sister has become hooked on the PC games based on Nancy Drew mysteries. Like a mystery movie or book, you go around to certain places collecting clues to solve a case. Using the mouse in a simple point and click to go here sort of manner, this game is also very simple. Puzzle solving skills are a must though, but it provides something that everybody in the family can help with. It limits which directions one can travel so unless you unintentionally open a package with a bomb, you can’t die really easily. Also, there isn’t any blood or gore in it which is a nice feature. You can also save your game whenever you want; thus, you can play it whenever you want to without worrying about the time.

There are many options for simple games out there which don’t involve complicated controls or advanced graphics. These are just my suggestions. I hope these help.

Sincerely, GWofVA

I second a game like this… my daughter LOVES the Nancy Drew PC games.

Although I grew up with Nintendo (original, Gameboy, and second generation Nintendo console…) My first PC game was actally MYST. I didn’t think I could learn the fast paced first person shooter games again. Then I went to Diablo, and branched from there. My first actual first person shooter was Resident Evil for PS. Scared the pants off me, but I quickly learned the feel of those more complex games. And I guess it helped that I have a gamer brother who would ‘help’ get me through the tough areas. 🙂

The advice given above was great! Hang in there- (You aren’t the only person who didn’t dig Sims… :))

I’ve got the following:

Computer (of course)
Sony Playstation
Intelleivision
Game Cube
Nintendo
Game Boy Advance

I was heavily into Diablo 2 online but lost my play disk (I think my 2 year old tossed it!) If anyone wants a super duper account, let me know (it’s gonna expire real soon.) Thank God, though. I spent more time there than with him. Nothing wrong with playing to fill your spare time but there is a problem in what you call spare time.

I love games of all sorts - cards, board…anything. The social aspect is #1, then, of course, winning.

Peace and love and competition

I’m a girl and I play…some…not a whole lot…but some…I normally play games with my husband so that we can do something he enjoys together…

we play Heroes of Might and Magic, a game called worms 2, a plethora of gamecube games and N64 games too…I like car games, although for some reason I drive way, way worse on the computer than I do on the road (thank goodness its not the other way around…but honestly, you would think that if I can drive a real car safely I’d be able to do it on the computer)

I like the time I get to spend with him, and it makes him happy to have me involved in something he enjoys…poor guy though, I’m horrible at gaming and I’m not much of a challenge for him to play against…

Maybe you can pick a game that is multiplayer- where you can be on the same team (thinking about Xbox’s Halo). Some of the funnest times I’ve had with my brother is when we’re team playing Halo or another multiplayer game.

He’s also a lot better than I am, but I find if I cover for him, he can enjoy getting elbow deep in the action without dying. Translation: funner for him too 🙂

👍

Burgertime Mutha!!!

I hit up laundrymats and rock the classics!

The Bible Game (for PS2 and GBA)

Bible trivia may not sound like the most immediately obvious choice for a PlayStation 2 or Game Boy Advance game, but Crave Entertainment seems convinced that its new offering, The Bible Game, is going to be an enjoyable product for those looking for family-friendly entertainment. So, what in God’s name is The Bible Game all about? It depends on what platform you’re playing it on, but generally speaking, it’s all about answering Bible trivia questions in varying types of formats. We went hands-on with both versions of the game, straight from the E3 2005 show floor.

The PlayStation 2 version of The Bible Game uses something of a gameshow format, complete with four characters onscreen behind Jeopardy-like podiums, and a peppy host asking the questions. Questions in The Bible Game will cover any number of things from the Old Testament. There are around 1,500 questions in the game, and you’re graded both on getting the question correct and on how long it takes you to answer it correctly. Obviously, whoever has the most points at the end wins the game…

The Bible game sounds interesting, but I think it would get a little more attention if they included game levels with combat. For instance, “Daniel in the Lions Den” could be a sort of Simon memorization game to lull the lions to sleep. “David and Goliath” could be a sort of shooting gallery using a sling. Also, a “Samson versus the Philistines” level with a little hand-to-hand combat would definitely make the game more interesting. With these minor alterations, I could see this game becoming a big hit.

😃 Just Kidding. The game sounds interesting as it is, not terribly exciting but then I don’t become very enthusiastic about Jeopardy either. I enjoy it . . . but don’t love it. In the long run, I think this sort of concept would work better as a board game.

As a chronologically older mentally younger Catholic I play both online and on an older system that has a quality to the games that I have yet seen duplicated by any of the newer systems. I’m talking about EA’s 3DO. I love the games they produced that have live actors in them whose actions you control. It sucks you in more like a movie than a gaming experience.👍

Minesweeper is tough for me. I have a fun time just clicking randomly on the board to see how close I get though.

Anyone into first person shooters? The can be a little gory depending on the game, but I think they’re fun.

I used to be a huge game freak… I played everything…

But now, The only games I really get in to are “Resident Evil”, “Tomb Raider” and “Silent Hill”

Stuff like “Crash Bandicoot” and “Spyro” are always good.

Can’t wait for the “24” game!

I love video games
I don’t get too involved though
but I do like to finish the games before i move on to another one, for instance, I beat Halo 2 in two days!

I love multi-player games, cuz i invite my good catholic friends over to play and I wipe the floor with them!
one time, I was at my friend’s house, and they had a priest and a brother over to talk with their parents, and at one point, the priest(Fr.John) and the brother (brother David) were playing star wars 3 for Xbox, both were saying things like “die droid !!”
I also played 4 player halo 2 with them, they weren’t very good, I kept sniping Fr. John
after we were done playing, and they had to leave, Fr. John said " you are going to have to go to confession, you shot a priest"

My Ce’Nedra is woderful actually, Geran is still recovering from being the Child of Dark and I would think that Beldaran is ok.
I love those books
I am finishing the last one ( for the second time) I forgot some of the details, so re -reading them was awesome
I’m surprised to find someone here who has read those books
