In fact, to be an orthodox, practicing Catholic it was imperative that you NOT vote for him
a single issue was a reason to vote trump, court picks. this alone will allow the country to get back on course.

one would also have to ask, could the church stand 4 more years of attacks from the left?

reduced religious liberty (must partake in the alternate lifestyles - bake a cake)
gay marriage
transgender bathrooms
forced businesses to provide abortifacients (refused to allow exceptions)
anti conscience protection
anti Hosanna-Tabor (church picks ministers)
pro abortion
etc. etc. etc
The commission chairman at the time, Martin R. Castro, went further with a statement of his own, saying, “The phrases ‘religious liberty’ and ‘religious freedom’ will stand for nothing except hypocrisy so long as they remain code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, Christian supremacy or any form of intolerance.” (npr)
castro was the obama-appointed chairman
“License to discriminate,” “war on women”— these were talking points, designed to denude religious liberty, which found warm reception in the age of Obama. As writers who caution against hyperbole, we cannot help but conclude that the Obama administration was immensely hostile to religious liberty when judged against history and previous administrations. Yes, the Obama administration paid lip service to religious liberty through proclamations and the obligatory overtures one expects from a president, but the protections traditionally afforded by religious freedom were severely weakened under the president’s stewardship. Whatever one will make of Obama’s legacy, history will support the conclusion that his administration worked to delegitimize the beliefs of millions of Americans of diverse faiths and remove them from within the bounds of acceptable discourse. There are many reasons to applaud President Obama—his decorum, his admirable role as a dedicated husband and father, his personal integrity, his sense of respect for the office of the presidency. But on religious liberty, little appreciation can be proffered.

Exactly!

If we’re white and we support Trump, we’re white supremacists.

And if we’re black and we support Trump, there are other names we are called.

When in actuality, these claims are not true.

WHY do they think that these false claims are legitimate? They really aren’t fit to print. That anyone has repeated them and called it news is farcical. AND it backfired on them and helped get Trump elected, because THINKING people could see that the MSM had an agenda.

Hillary was given debate questions and wasn’t disqualified. That’s it in a nutshell.

I would probably do the same if they were white or Chinese or
Filipino or purple or green. I have discovered that I tend to judge more by demeanor, dress, age, and gender than by color or race.

replying to PaulinVA:

does huff post know what racism is?

what race is muslim?

huff post will tell you it is culture and change the recognized meaning of racism to fit the agenda. go ahead and believe it if you want. after all, you can be anything you want to be in our society.
Absolutely! any time there is a dysfunctional administrative system, there will be “coyotes” to take advantage of those in power, as well as the victims.
would this be like the clinton foundation? hillary was part of the dysfunctional administrative system and her foundation was the “coyote”
I am curious what your reasons are?
i am curious who he voted for
The United States is not a Catholic or Christian nation, I don’t expect it’s leaders to be saints. I expect the leaders of the United States to do what’s best for the citizens of the United States, not the rest of the world.
👍
Doesn’t it bother you that almost every racist and racist group in the US has explicitly endorsed Trump, and that groups of neo-Nazis are proudly throwing up the Nazi salute and yelling “Hail Trump”?
they have a free speech argument. would you support someone taking your right to speak away by claiming it is hate speech? of course they choose trump

in reality it is hate speech. however, it is still protected speech: at least for now.

the dems would change the definition of free speech. when they do, the religious will also lose their voice because many consider our speech hate speech.
Trump says what’s politically expedient for him to say; he does not speak from deep seated beliefs which he holds.
yet, for people of religion, he is still better than hillary would have been.

except for the president and, oh yeah, that entire parade in Charlottesville and the countless groups and organizations scattered across the country and the inter webs… pretty hard to be racist…
The “parade” was meant with protests and condemnations up and down the country.

Being racist isn’t fashionable in America.

So there goes your victimhood narrative.

You’ll have to find some other reason to oppose Trump.

That would make you very unpopular in some liberal circles. I saw not long ago a young ethnic minority tell an older lady on Facebook “there is NO place for you on the left!”

Many people here, including myself have presented real reasons why we can’t support Trump based on fact…
Now that we’re digging deeper and the notion that Trump is governing from the right (for now and for the most part), the facts are elusive, the never-Trump crowd is getting more irrational and emotional.
why are you supporting him?
Because he’s doing pretty much most of what I want him to do. And mean words don’t trump abortion in my book.

Almost 2300 replies in and this topic has managed to not get taken down? We’re acting civil, aren’t we?

Or are the mods behind?

No. It just so happens that right now there is a right wing president in power supported by many here whom many 3rd party types find very distasteful. Had Clinton won, the Clinton-supporters would face a lot more criticism.

It may be a little heated in places but the only posts I’ve had a major issue with are the repeated accusations that people who voted third party were willing to let babies die.

The concept of the “5 non-negotiables” is not magisterial
true, but you do have items that are not negotiable.
To the participants of the Congress promoted by the European People's Party (March 30, 2006) | BENEDICT XVI

ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PEOPLE’S PARTY
ON THE OCCASION OF THE STUDY DAYS ON EUROPE
Hall of Blessing
Thursday, 30 March 2006
As far as the Catholic Church is concerned, the principal focus of her interventions in the public arena is the protection and promotion of the dignity of the person, and she is thereby consciously drawing particular attention to principles which are not negotiable. Among these the following emerge clearly today:
  • protection of life in all its stages, from the first moment of conception until natural death;
  • recognition and promotion of the natural structure of the family - as a union between a man and a woman based on marriage - and its defence from attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different forms of union which in reality harm it and contribute to its destabilization, obscuring its particular character and its irreplaceable social role;
  • the protection of the right of parents to educate their children.
These principles are not truths of faith, even though they receive further light and confirmation from faith; they are inscribed in human nature itself and therefore they are common to all humanity. The Church’s action in promoting them is therefore not confessional in character, but is addressed to all people, prescinding from any religious affiliation they may have. On the contrary, such action is all the more necessary the more these principles are denied or misunderstood, because this constitutes an offence against the truth of the human person, a grave wound inflicted onto justice itself.
Yes, he really, truly said it, and he was referencing the White Supremacists.
he was referencing other groups. it wasn’t just white supremacist that showed up, but that doesn’t fit the narrative.
You had people and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally. You had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. O.K.? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.

Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people but you also had troublemakers and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group too. (irish times)

Not a fan fic, Richard Spencer and his alt right ilk hate free market capitalism and adore single payer healthcare.

Africans are not a single group. They have various ethnic and tribal groups, and if you’re part of the wron one… they’ve been known to do what’s called necklacing. Google necklacing in South Africa.

Asians, look at Japan’s immigration law, if you think Trumps is harsh, he’s got nothin on them.

Ask us military stationed in Japan how they treat non Japanese.

Even Chinese immigrants here still tend to have a cow when their son or daughter tries to date a non Chinese.

Muslim Arabs tend to view non Arabs as lesser as well. Look at how they treat migrant workers in Saudi Arabia.

Our country is leaps and bounds ahead of most of the world in race relations.

Hilary was a terrible candidate… awful. I completely understand the anti Hilary vote that went for Trump. That part is over.

What I do not understand are people who pro-Trump considering his actions, behavior and policies.

Why do you support him?
