Subsidiarity, solidarity, and the lay mission

Bishop Robert Morlino. Madison:
Dear friends,

It was no shock at all for me to learn that our diocesan native son, Paul Ryan, had been chosen to be a candidate for the Vice Presidency of the United States. I am proud of his accomplishments as a native son, and a brother in the faith, and my prayers go with him and especially with his family as they endure the unbelievable demands of a presidential campaign here in the United States. It is not for the bishop or priests to endorse particular candidates or political parties. Any efforts on the part of any bishop or priest to do so should be set aside. And you can be assured that no priest who promotes a partisan agenda is acting in union with me or with the Universal Church.

It is the role of bishops and priests to teach principles of our faith, such that those who seek elected offices, if they are Catholics, are to form their consciences according to these principles about particular policy issues.

However, the formation of conscience regarding particular policy issues is different depending on how fundamental to the ecology of human nature or the Catholic faith a particular issue is. Some of the most fundamental issues for the formation of a Catholic conscience are as follows: sacredness of human life from conception to natural death, marriage, religious freedom and freedom of conscience, and a right to private property.

Violations of the above involve intrinsic evil — that is, an evil which cannot be justified by any circumstances whatsoever. These evils are examples of direct pollution of the ecology of human nature and can be discerned as such by human reason alone. Thus, all people of good will who wish to follow human reason should deplore any and all violations in the above areas, without exception. The violations would be: abortion, euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide, same-sex marriage, government-coerced secularism, and socialism.

As regards the original question,

Mitt Romney is not evil. So it is a false dilemma. Barack Obama is the most pro-abortion politician ever elected into office. It is the wrong choice for a Catholic to make. Very wrong.

… Remember Gore won the popular vote but lost the election.
Actually this is not true. California electoral vote went to Gore, but not all the votes were
counted. The person in charge of counting the military votes took sick and those votes
were not counted because it would not have mattered for the electoral vote. However, counting them would have given Bush the popular vote nationally

For the record, I have not said who I will vote for in the general election.
That is none of my business. As I said, you will vote according to your conscience. I am simply stating that one of the candidates is the most pro-abortion politician this country has ever seen. His record speaks for itself.

I would never be able to sleep again if I voted for him.

That is a man possessed by the spirit of abortion. It makes me shudder! :nope:
His record during his days in the Illinois legislature is just as bad. There can be no doubt where President Obama stands on life. His lifelong work against it speaks for itself.

Since 1973 there have been approximately 50 MILLION babies murdered in the United States and almost 1.3 BILLION worldwide. I honestly cannot dwell on those numbers too much or I start to feel like I have been kicked in the stomach.

To suggest that striking the exact balance between solidarity and subsidiarity even comes close to the moral duty we have to reduce, and hopefully end, this horror show strikes me as rationalization of the worse possible kind. At one time, I had no problem with abortion at all and fact, thought of it as a good thing. I am deeply ashamed by that today. I know that some others will not agree with my conclusions, but I stand by them nonetheless.

Yes, and of course, the link begins showing his pro-abortion beginning in November 2008. He does have a pro-abortion record going back much further than that as a state legislator.

Yes, it was before he was elected that he voted NOT to allow the most basic medical care for a baby accidentally born alive during a partial-birth abortion.

The number of abortions in the United States has now exceeded 54,000,000.
And that number does not include chemical abortions.
Please God, have mercy on us.

To me it is a no-brainer that Romney/Ryan are the ticket that have the will to stop
some of this massacre of the unborn. Our elderly are at risk as well with the “death
panels” deciding when and if one gets “expensive” life prolonging procedures, or just
gets shuffeled over to hospice.

Not that it matters much, but do you have a source for this?

It would seem that politicians look at their political mandate all the time so I can’t believe no one counted these votes for 10 years.

As it stands Gore won the popular vote by over 500,000.

And here is the official tally link.

Not that it matters, but Gore won the popular vote, even after California amended its count.

As I said, the count of those votes would not have changed the electoral vote, so they
did not want to go to the expense of counting those votes for the popular vote count.
The article did say why it would have been so expensive, but those are all the details
I remember.

Tell me about it… its right there in front of thier face.
That is staggering, isn’t it? THAT is the record of an evil, evil man.

It literally makes me want to vomit that some Catholics are STILL in denial about who and what this man is.
