Do we vote for the lesser of two evils?

Not right away, of course. But the next president will be nominating justices for the SC that could make a difference. Obama will not.
And that’s why this election is crucial. If Obama is reelected, we could possibly see two more pro abortion justices nominated. And they probably will be rather young (and I mean like in their 40s) which means they coudl serve on the court for 30+ years. There would be little chance for Roe Vs Wade to be overturned in my lifetime if this happens. or even my nieces and nephews lifetime…

ObamaCare is 2400 pages of voted on before even read legislation…“we have to pass it to see what is in it” nonsense…It will probably bankrupt our country.

Yes, Romney is not perfect, but when I consider the alternative…4 more years of Obama’s anti Catholic policies, etc…I can’t bear it…

I wish there was a VIABLE alternative…but 3rd party would be tossing my vote away. 😦

But wouldn’t it be much more thrilling and miraculous if all pro lifers pray and mobilize together and try to work with Obama to sway him and transform him on this issue? Nothing is impossible with God and his graces. With the right approach, attitude and HONEST politics, we can help to transform him.

In any case, he is not transformed as of now, and there is no excuse for re-electing the most pro-abortion president ever. That would simply be wrong.

I don’t think that would be possible with barely 2 1/2 months until the Election, Rome wasn’t built in a day you know. It took years for Jane Roe of Roe vs Wade to become pro life. Norma McCorvey was converted slowly…probably a good 10-15 years it took (not from 1973, but probably from 1980 or so on)…it also took meeting a little girl who might have been aborted, to plant a seed in her. Obama refuses to let Planned Parenthood lose tax $. He even interfered with a few states, when they decided to revoke state tax $ from Planned Parenthood, by threatening them with the loss of medicaid $ for low income citizens (and he cares about the poor? I guess only if they use planned parenthood for their “health care” which they are not a provider of and there are plenty of federally qualified health centers in the USA that provide women’s exams…they just don’t do any abortions). If there’s any chance of a conversion, it would probably take 20 years we don’t have.

Hi,JPeterson,

US History is full of stories about how one vote made the difference - it was not symbolic - it was an honest-to-God vote for something - and, it counted. The only way one would know if it is ‘symbolic’ if they did as you said you are leaning … sitting the election out and just see who wins - and then to find out that your vote would have counted for somelthing - but, is too was aborted.

You know, no one is asking any voter to kiss and hug and hold hands with any candidate. The idea is balancing what we know to be a fact and then doing our civic duty.

It is simply beyond my imagination how anyone can honestly think they are doing something by not doing anything at all - and just being carried on the coat tails of other voters.

You know, I am convinced we will all have to answer before God on how we voted. The ones who think that Christ would have sat back on election day and done nothing know nothing about the hard work our Savior put forth to bring us to salvation.

For God’s sake, stop this pity-party mentality that because some is flawed then you won’t vote for them. We truly get the governnment we deserve - and another 4-year scurging over religious freedoms being taken away, on-going butchery and same sex marriage - and to think we could have stopped that - or, at least worked to bring that about.

God bless
The problem is that the alternative to Obama is Romney. I’m leaning towards not voting for president at all. Mass will go to Obama anyway so my non vote would be strictly symbolic.

Romneycare covers abortion by the way. He can wiggle out of it by saying that he had nothing to do with that part of it but any true pro-lifer would choose to not implement something that funds it. I really don’t like him and would neve vote for him.

We don’t have the time, but we have no choice. The only quick way to get rid of the abortion is to support a dictator and hope that he and his successors remain ‘benevolent dictators’. Changing a democracy is much slower than changing a dictatorship. It took over 80 years to get rid of slavery and an additional hundred to eliminate unfair burdens placed on those ‘freed’ from that slavery.

We can greatly accelerate the process by a concentrated grass roots effort working from the bottom up focusing on all regions and all political parties, but we must be greater than any region any religion and any political party or else we will become pawn to be used by them for their own agendas.

When the time comes when we can make a real strike at abortion, not just a symbolic one then I will vote for that candidate no matter what the cost. (With the politics as it stands I have no doubt that the cost will be great; but not so nearly as great as the sin we bear.)

In the end, though, Mitt Romney is no Abe Lincoln.

I live in Oklahoma, which means that, barring an event of Biblical proportions, my vote under the current system will have absolutely no effect on the presidential elections. I WILL proudly vote even so and even though our district is so homogenous in belief that my vote will not even count in the local portion of the ballot either. That does not mean I will delude myself into thinking that my vote will have an effect, though.

We may have to answer to God for how we vote but not for the vote cast but for the reason we cast them and the way we developed our conscience to make that decision.

We do get the government we deserve, just like we deserve the foreign policy disaster and economic collapse due to the Bush administration. Just like we do under Obama who kept the vast majority of the disastrous Bush administrations policies.

No disaster is big enough to atone for the evil of abortion. Just like none was big enough to atone for the sin of slavery: not the disastrous presidents before Lincoln nor the martyrdom of our greatest President, not even the casualties of the Civil War (which still ranks as one of the greatest tragedies of all times). We don’t do ourselves any favor, though, by promoting the lie that all we have to do is vote for the right candidate and everything will be fixed; it won’t. We have a lot of work to do and simply voting the ‘correct’ way is simply way too little way too late.

I think you know more about Planned Parenthood than me. So help me understand. Does the tax that fund Planned Parenthood only used for abortion alone? Or is the tax used for other services? If so, what are these services?

Obama has been in the public office for almost 2 decades. His conversion is fast approaching!

There is nothing wrong with not voting for either candidate. There is something wrong with voting for Obama. I know many good conservative catholics who are not voting for either Romney or Obama. I don’t think they are sinning for not voting for Romney if that what you are implying. Romney isn’t entirely pro-life and he has sent many mixed messages about gay adoption. He is very flawed in my opinion. Obama is a disaster though. No catholic has any excuse voting for him.

Hi, Je333,

You are so right - nothing is impossible with God! And, yes, have everyone praying for our President to change the murderous path he has taken - so that he is transformed into one who does not support every effort to destroy unborn life - is a great idea! Prayer is always the right approach.

May I suggest that we all also pray that our President is not re-elected, and that those who are honestly debating about staying home because they are unsure about how effective their vote will be - will be moved by the Grace of God to go to the voting booth and vote their conscience.

Nothig is impossible with God.

God bless

I certainly agree with that. It’s not just that he has been the most pro-abortion president in history, and that his pro-abortion policies are backed up by his party platform. It’s not just that he endorses redefining marriage into something which is impossible. It’s also that he explicitly attacks freedom of religion by imposing the HHS mandate, which will force Catholic institutions and others to either reject their religion, convert to the HHS religion of secularism, go out of business, or pay exorbitant fines. That’s only the beginning of the assault on religious liberty.

And even aside from the support for abortion and homosexual marriage and limitations on religious freedom, this administration intends to continue unlimited spending. The national debt topped $16 Trillion during the DNC convention. And that does not include unfunded mandates.

The end result will be a severely devalued dollar, hyperinflation, and depression, all of which the rich will survive, but the poor will be devastated. This is helping the poor?

Is it a part of social justice to transfer unsustainable debt to one’s children and grandchildren, thereby ensuring a worse life for all of them?

I won’t be staying home. President isn’t the only thing that matters. I’d like to see Elizabeth Warren in the senate, I’d like to vote against euthanasia and for medicinal marijuana. If I cast a vote for president I will vote for Obama. I will not under any circumstances vote for Romney.

I will never vote for Obama and his pushing of infanticide, partial birth abortion. Hope the people of this country have some decency.

A vote for Obama will entail remote material cooperation in an intrinsic evil, since Obama is radically pro-abortion, supports same-sex marriage (which is impossible), and supports the repression of religion through his HHS mandate.

Right, this is well said.

The only thing stone throwers at the Republcans can say is try to bring up wars that Democrat Congresses voted to enact.

Hello! Vice President Joe Biden is Catholic too!
And is almost as pro abortion as Obama. And may have been asked by his Bishop to not present himself for receiving the Eucharist.

Paul Ryan on the other hand, is a Catholic in good standing, according to his own Bishop.

if I could only vote for VP, I’d vote for Paul Ryan by himself.

Sorry about the prior “empty” post. Got a phone call and hit the “submit reply” by
accident.

A vote for Obama will be a vote for euthanasia, see the “panels” in Obamacare that will
be making those decisions. Can you trust someone who does not care for the unborn,
to be compassionate about our sick elderly or our handicapped.? I don’t.
