Yes. As a member of a cathedral choir, I have been moved to tears many times over twenty years. The Triduum is very powerful. So too are ordinations - particularly when the newly ordained greet their parents. The funeral of our beloved bishop…

:blessyou::thankyou: That is really kind of you - thanks!
I really enjoy coming on here because it reminds me that there are lots of really good people out there! I’ve been laughing my head off over the ‘list’ thread for single Catholics too:thumbsup:
I started reading that thread the other night…lol yes too funny!😃 Well, glad you are here…and hope you are having a blessed holy week.*

The Triduum is moving beyond words, indeed. You know, the parish we now belong to, has boxes of tissues under each and every pew…like right in front of the kneelers. I now see why!😃

Yes.
I actually got very teary eyed during Palm Sunday, especially when we got to the part where Jesus took his last breath.

I think these are very moving Masses during Holy Week. And letting the Holy Spirit into ourselves and moving closer to God are tears of joy.👍

I am glad to see I am not nuts.

I tend to cry at almost every Mass. I can’t say what happens that makes me cry. Sometimes I think it is my prayers, other times I think that it is God’s graces moving through me. I don’t notice anyone else doing this and I get highly embarrassed. I require at least on tissue a Mass. I just happended upon this thread and am so thankful to have found it. Now I know there is nothing wrong with it.

Something from God is getting through to the soul, even if we not aware of just what, at least this is what I think!

God Bless!!

I tear up at most Masses, and have done so since I came back to the Church six years ago. I thought it would stop after the first month or two, but it’s still going on.

Alright I’m a guy so this is hard to admit but during mass I don’t break down or anything but I get overwhelmed/choked up/teary eyed during certain points after readings that get to me and during/after Communion I get chills. They are tears of joy though and not sadness. When I go to Stations of the Cross its very emotional for me. I am sometimes so choked up that I can’t sing or say anything. During this Lent I have had some prayer sessions where I get I guess feelings of ecstasy too. I’m not sure if its a spiritual thing or just me reacting to what I’m praying or hearing. Its a great feeling though. When I think of how important Christ is in my life during prayer or mass I get overwhelmed. I’ve had experiences of this at the Adoration Chapel too. Last week I said my rosary in the morning before work and on my drive in I was so overwhelmed with joy I started praising Jesus by repeating His name and had such overwhelming feeling of ecstasy I actually was sobbing while driving in. The feeling of ecstasy is awesome too. All joyful though. Then I got to work 😦 This doesn’t happen all the time but quite frequently. You are the first I’ve told of this.
You are also the first person who has admitted the feeling of ecstasy that I know. I tried to tell my family about it and got strange looks and no comments. I get them at different times. Mostly during the recieveng of the host, yet also at home when I have prayers have been most earnest. I didn’t know what to think of it. Again I thought I was nuts. I still believe it is the Holy Spirit moving through me. It leaves me with such a sense of peace and joy! Amen, Amen,Amen!!!

I was extremely moved by the Holy Thursday mass this year. Maybe it was emotions but it seemed like Jesus was just sitting right beside me. A very moving moment

I think He was! Does everyone who cries try and hide it?

When I read John’s comment about “ecstasy” I liken it to feeling elated during prayer…like an extreme peace and elation that can only be described as coming from the Holy Spirit. There have been many times when I have prayed the Rosary that I almost feel like something is happening outside of myself…like Jesus is present in the room…an elation, or ecstasy type feeling…it’s really hard to explain, for me.

That is how I interpreted his comment to mean…*

Our priest cries at Mass sometimes a lot. He is a very emotional person. 🤷
He gets choked up when expressing his emotions. He said it is because he was close to his dad and lost him about 6 years ago, he still has his mom. He has a very bad time at funerals too. I have met some priests who are kind of icy so I would rather see the teary eyed than the cold stare. or intimidation.

*I actually think that would be neat to see the priest cry during mass…I mean, not like I want to see anyone cry, but a cry of joy…of elation. *

Mine come from within. A strange scary wonderful feeling. I have never had this happen before these last months. It always leaves me full of joy and peace. Like floating on a cloud. I just thought no one else had this happen. I just am thrilled that somebofies out there have an idea of what I am speaking of!

God Bless!

I guess I am not alone in this so here goes…

First, Rose71, your story moved me. I am sorry for what you have experienced. Years ago, I went through a very difficult single phase in my life, too.

Okay…

I have been experiencing what I can only describe as a very intense and overwhelming feeling during the Great Amen but especially during the Consecration for over 7 years. I don’t want to say that it is “painful” per say, but I would not categorize it as a pleasant or peaceful feeling either.

I do not want to be a distraction or upsetting to anyone during the most solemn parts of the mass (or at any part for that matter), so I do my best to hold it in as much as I can but a few tears inevitably flow.

The only way that I can even try to explain it is that this intense feeling overcomes me around the moment when Father holds up the Eucharist (almost like a sound that is too loud to hear - too great for my senses). I have tried to embrace it, I have tried to ignore it, I have tried to think of other stuff, I have prayed the Rosary, all with same result.

I compose myself for the Sign of Peace and am alright during Communion, but after mass, I feel completely exhausted.

To me, the loss of control is uncomfortable and the overwhelming nature is very intense (like getting knocked in the head without the pain). I am not sure what to make of it and have been quiet about it except with my wife who notices every time.

I assumed this gift was quite rare; but some of the experiences I have read are somewhat similar to mine.

The strength of emotion varies at Mass; I get emotional from the Sanctus “Blessed she who comes in the name of the Lord”] but it is very intense at the Lord’s Prayer. Sometimes the feelings of sadness overwhelms me, but I bite my cheeks and lip and mask as best I can what is happening. I think I was noticed this morning by a kid a few pews ahead of me. I do not want to be observed but it is sometimes very hard.

Once I receive Holy Communion the sadness dissipates.

I believe that my tears are caused because of Eucharistic abuses especially irreverence and unworthy communions.

God Bless

I don’t cry, but I do tear up often, especially when I think of the love Our Lord, has for me, a lowly sinner who is trying to do his best through this life. It happens especially after I receive Holy Communion. Thank you Lord!!!

Its very hard to tell others about it. They look at you with a puzzled look. I have told only one family member about it. I’m glad I can at least bring it up here. I had another experience last Saturday at morning mass and confession. I went to mass and said the group rosary before confession and during mass I felt the great feeling of joy and happiness during mass. It comes in waves for me and after confession and saying my penance I left church and it really hit me. I actually gasp for air when it hits me hardest. I really felt it leaving church. I got in my truck and just felt waves of elation. I wish everyone felt this. There would be no non believers.
