It’s great to be Catholic!
It is a priveledge for me to be a Catholic! It is a wonderful priveledge!
This is why i care so much about showing the utmost respect for our Lord. if one wears practically next to nothing to Mass, how is that revereing our Lord and showing Him the respect He is due?

Liturigical dance does not have any reverence for Christ. none. He died for us all so that we can have everlasting life, so we owe it to Him to show Him the reverence and respect He so richly deserves!

It is important though. Its very important. immodest dress and things like this take the focus off Christ and puts it on man. The Mass has become like a Mass of the people, and not the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass anymore. Put the focus back on Christ, bring back the modest dress codes, and you have a reverent Mass. Take the focus off Christ, this is what you have, a Mass of the people.
:amen:

The questions that come to mind are:

Who brought up the idea of dancing in church?
I don’t want to sound like I’m a proponent of any kind of dancing in church, but some do claim that is Scripturally-based. Ever see the movie Footloose?

Cat, this thread is about liturgical dancing, not dancing outside of the Mass. Dancing is not to be incorporated into the liturgy, except for Africa where it is part of their culture. No one here is saying that Catholics should not ever dance outside of Mass.

Jesus deserves reverence and respect. definitely!

No, I have not. I do not watch dancing shows. If dancing is scripturally based, I’d like to see where that is? Can you show it? If liturgical dancing was to be in the Mass, why has not the Holy Father/s in the past or present made it so? Why not?

Good point. If it was an acceptable practice Frank, it would’ve been allowed. I just hope that someday it is a thing of the past.

You get an A+ because that is what I wanted to hear. 😃

Somehow, I don’t think this will be happening in purgatory.
I’m not a guy, but I grew up around mainly men and have a husband. And since I liked hanging out with all my uncles and cousins, I sometimes became privy to the their personal conversations regarding the female anatomy and how certain positions and clothing affected them. (This was after I became a young woman. They’d guarded themselves when I was a little girl. Otherwise, I’d tell their mother - my grandmother. Ha!) It’s not a good idea for all those young girls bending over like that. People will either get a nice shot of the front or a nice shot of the backside. I do not need to say more. 😊

I personally don’t care for liturgical dancing. I haven’t seen one in person since gradeschool, thank goodness, but I have now seen enough on YouTube and EBaums World to notice that the dancing is sort of second or third rate. That said, I don’t really see anything wrong with it when performed outside of the liturgy if someone is so inspired to dance for God for a performance or celebration.

From Psalm 149
Hallelujah! Sing to the LORD a new song, a hymn in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker, the people of Zion rejoice in their king. Let them praise his name in festive dance, make music with tambourine and lyre.
I will admit that the keyword in that was praise and not worship. Catholics know the difference between praise and worship. However, I don’t know whether Hebrew for praise is the same as worship.

I am against liturgical dancing in the context of the liturgy, but on the other hand, I never liked it when the Knights of Columbus came in with swords during the May Crowning ceremonies either.

When my brother was in Spain, he showed me pictures of people who gathered in the square and danced after Mass ha ended. Maybe Churches can organize entertainment with dancing after Mass has ended, either in an outdoor setting or in the social hall. This could foster a sense of community as well.

This Bible quote means that liturgical dance is acceptable at any Mass then? if so, why hasn’t it been approved fully?

Good. I’ve been told I confuse people, I just don’t wanna confuse a newbie.
It isn’t confusing. 🙂 What confuses me is why any parish would even allow liturgucal dancing at all! what is the POINT of having it at all???
