Ever tried it? Ever been to a Catholic Charasmatic prayer group and been open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

We learn to pray and sing in tongues as a gift of the Holy Spirit. Not by copying others. A gift is a gift. Like all gifts of the Holy Spirit.

No they don’t. It’s a gift. If one wants to start praying in tongues, if they have this gift, they do. If one wants to stop praying in tongues and switch to their own language, they do

Has anyone considered that there is a Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity?
Does anyone understand what yielding one’s speech mechanism means? Maybe the
problem is that people do not understand the word “prayer”.

I pray in tongues sometimes, but I only do it when I’m desperate. Sometimes when I’m praying, I am so overcome with emotion that I don’t even know what words to say. That’s where tongues come in. It’s basically a 911 call to Heaven.

You keep asking these questions. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.

Apologies to Mandy Patinkin.

i think this person means people are just talking gibberish and copying this from other people whp learned this gibberish from other people.

i think this person is saying they dont believe that praying in tongues is from the Holy Spirit

Granny, it is the age old task of education. We, the concupiscent of this earth, like to understand things on a purely human level. When we witness something supernatural, we scoff, we chide, we criticize. As horrible as it may sound, we do that out of ignorance. Two things about ignorance:

Ignorance is easily forgiven and easily overcome. It is not hatred, although it can lead to that. A confession: A few folks here seem to appreciate what I post. My dirty little secret is that they like the Holy Spirit, not me! When He speaks - when I am weak and do not resist Him - then my posts make sense.

All praise, honor and glory to the Most Holy Spirit!

Saint Anthony of Padua
That was an example of the miracle that is authentic, the ability to preach in one language and God allowing the hearers who do not speak your language to understand the sermon.

It is not that he spoke in what is described by another poster very well:

Continuing the discussion from The gift of speaking in tongues:
[Glossolalia or (speaking in tongues) is the fluid vocalizing of speech-like syllables that lack any readily comprehended meaning, in some cases as part of religious practice.]

I believe you have been conditioned into an emotional, learned sort of activity that comes from an earnest heart.

I have spent years, decades, both before my conversion as a kid growing up in the Charismatic movement to researching it as a convert and an adult.

Everything from warm words of greeting to awards are given by the Vatican to many people. That does not mean that the Church gives approval to every word or action of the recipient(s) of these things (as evidenced the latest kerfulffle over in the News forum).

its like saying you dont like brussel sprouts and yet , you have never tried them. One doesnt have to be in a crowd of people for any length of time to receive this gift.

As I have said before to many people, if someone can find me an official Church document that says Glossolalia is real, I will donate to the Charismatic Conference. I will put my money where my tongue is.

We receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the Sacraments. At Baptism and Confirmation. Holy Mother Church has never taught otherwise.

we dont ask for donations

the Holy Spirit never stops bestowing gifts. The Church teaches this. we pray for them
