I hope he took some action
You’re correct on that part – modern tongues are not evidenced in the Bible.Praying tongues has nothing to do with bible’s. It is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Luthern Bible has Books missing as does the Baptist remember a king wanted a divorce against Catholic rules which was in line with the Bible So the king created the Luthern religion and a new bible History has created different versions
One and the same Spirit produces each of these. Fighting against the Spirit?1 Cor 12:10-11 “to another mighty deeds; to another prophecy; to another discernment of spirits; to another varieties of tongues; to another interpretation of
tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing them individually to each person as he wishes.”
God has designated these to be. Fighting agsint God?1 Cor 12:28-31 “Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. 28 Some people God has designated in the church to be, first, apostles;[f]
second, prophets; third, teachers; then, mighty deeds; then, gifts of
healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work mighty deeds? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.”
Envious that others are being built up?1 Cor 14:3-5 “On the other hand, one who prophesies does speak to human beings, for their building up,[c] encouragement, and solace. 4 Whoever speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but whoever prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now
** I should like all of you to speak in tongues**, but even more to
prophesy. One who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues,
unless he interprets, so that the church may be built up.”
How would any such test prove that Charismatics are “overly emotional”? Personality tests evaluate ongoing ways a person perceives and experiences the world. They don’t measure behavioral reactions to activities such as prayer meetings!Maybe, maybe not. The only way to know for sure would be to do a study where we administer personality tests to those who identify as charismatic.
You have a very interesting and unusual take on this. How have you reached these conclusions? The fact that the Church, in an increasingly industrialized and secular society, has not emphasized the charisms for perhaps hundreds of years does in no way reflect on their divine origin or “borrowing” from anyone.Medawlinno
No, but there wasn’t the interest and focus on them to the degree we see it
today until Pentecostalism started becoming extremely popular. CC at
worst can be said to have borrowed some of the ideas and practices re
spiritual gifts from Pentecostalism.
The CC movement is independent of Pentecostalism, but it borrowed its
ideas and practices from them with respect to spiritual gifts. Just put
a Catholic spin on them, so to speak.
