I was watching him the other night on EWTN and he said that he had spend a year in a mental institution. We also know he was a cocaine addict, and homeless, and a millionaire. I just don’t know if someone who spent a year in a mental institution is someone to give advice to others? Maybe his mental problem was cured, but maybe it wasn’t . I do not know.
I occasionally deal with “Corapi” types (in regards to his former state).
I can’t get into the supernatural element as a factor in his demise (such as demons), *though the supernatural seems to be his forte when it comes to his homilies. And yes, as with all dope, I’m sure the poor man was tempted in some capacity.
I have nothing but respect for this man. If some of you could even imagine what Fr. Corapi may look like today if he stayed his degenerative course (if alive) as opposed to what you currently see, you’d pin a medal on the man. Though being a man after my own heart, I’m sure he’d refuse it!
If you’re intimidated by his “delivery”, I have one minor recommendation; quitcher’ whining!
Simply put, without his “reach out and shake you by the neck” approach, you’d be reading a post by a “former cradle-Catholic” happy in his new-found Protestantism, as opposed to a returning Catholic.
The man brought me back……period!
He sells catechism, if you have a problem with that, maybe you’ve been mislead for a while….wake up! (I don’t think I’ve heard my parish priest mention the phrase “Catholic catechism”……ever).
You can argue with Catholic “opinion” (as I sometimes do….with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and even with Corapi himself) but you and the Pope are bound by Catholic catechism.
What’s your fear? Corapi says, “
I fear nothing!”
I live by that motto……I have to.
I’ve had one serious beef with the dedicated priest. I heard him say once (and please correct me if I’m wrong…seriously) that he was extremely angry at the church once. He said he was so mad he was near leaving the priesthood.
He told the story of one of his mentors. He said that this man, a fellow priest, was relieved of his position as an ordained priest due to an offense of child molestation.
As a disclaimer, I have a very hard time showing any compassion…at all… for sex offenders. Sorry, but I can’t seem to summon that type of grace.
My beef with Corapi is not his defense of the criminal priest (I understand loyalty and forgiveness), but the fact that Corapi stated it was “just one offense”. That downright burned me! “Just once?!” Huh? You wanna’ see two hot-heads go at it, stick me in a room with Corapi and make that our topic of discussion, and you’ll get your fill.
Other than that, as I’ve stated, I’m able to separate opinion and catechism.
If Saint Michael was occupied on another incident, I’d call for Corapi, code 3, as my backup against Satan himself!
Kudos to the “Sergeant Priest”.
Peace……
