Do you love Jesus Christ more than your church? I’m open for discussion on any aspect about this question. This is not just a Roman Catholic issue, but this can be found in Orthodox and Protestant churches too. However, you can see this apparent affection for the church over and above an affection for God Himself in Catholic Christians. God is the gospel. Christ came into this world to live a perfect life and die to bring you to God. Do you really love God in Christ more than your church?

Christ is the reason for our church. We have a church because of the foundation of Christ. Our church is the what the grease is to the wheel. JESUS is Lord. The son of the living God. In him there is real peace and real joy. In him is our Salvation and eternal life. I love the Anglican church because it is the focus and the enabler for its faithful to see Christ and to know him and love him and be changed by him and to educate its faithful that there is no other name above the name of Jesus.

If Jesus started a Church, and it still existed, would you want to belong?

I think you would.

You need to do a little more research; it will change your life for the better.

Jesus did found a Church and it is alive and well today. Open up your Bible and read all about it! It changed me.
 
The church is his bride, how can we love him and not her? Or how can our love for her eclipse our love for Him?

Can we love our mother more than our father?

I am sorry I thought the question was if we loved our Church more than our Lord. I change my answer, I love both as well.

And I read the original question backwards :o

Let’s see. If you’re talking about my church building, certainly I love Christ more than bricks and stone.

And if my Church were just a collection of people, then certainly I would have to love Christ more than other people who are merely human beings.

But what if Christ was part of my Church? What if He were so intimately a part of my Church that my Church was His bride, and thus the two were united spiritually as husband/wife?

That’s a different story, isn’t it? How could I separate Christ from His spouse, my Church? Scripture says that in marriage the two become ‘one flesh’ and are not to be put asunder. This is a prefiguration of the spiritual marriage of Christ and His Church which we see in Scripture.

So please tell me how as a Catholic you can expect me to answer any other way than “I love my Savior, and I love My Church, His spouse, spirtually ‘one’ with My Savior, equally”.
How could I love Christ standing 'by Himself" but NOT love Him as the Spouse of the Church and strive to cut the Church ‘away’ from Him?

Matthew 18

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

John 20
21Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

You cannot join the one true church. Only God can add to the one true church. It’s the biblical truth. Going through the RICA classes and getting baptized does not mean that you are in the one true church.

Acts 2:47
…praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Not to mention all the Scripture passages that refer to the Church as the body of Christ.

How can you say you love Christ but not his body?

I love God in Christ in my Church. The op’s question rips Jesus Christ apart.

Are you saying Mary is somehow equal to God the Father? Do you look at Mary as your mother, and God as your Father?

Nope, I love both. I love God more however I can see where Tantum ergo is coming from.

Just because I love one does not cancel out my love for the other.

Like I said it was out of my love for my Lord that I joined the Church.

Do you see what I mean? I have been on this forum for about two weeks. Catholics spend more time talking about the Roman Catholic Church than God in Christ. You guys know that’s true!
