Here is the verse we all should take soberly and seriously. Protestants can do the same thing as Catholics. I find that professing Christians tend to identify with their churches more than Christ Himself. Do you have greater affection for Mary than God the Son? Do you elevate Mary in affection over the Triune God? Do you proclaim the Roman Catholic Church more than Christ and Him crucified?

Did I miss something? When did this thread become about Mary? So far the only people who have talked about Mary have been two non-Catholics… Well I guess me now too.
What do you see as being wrong with someone identifying themselves with their church?

Now you tell us. . .Here are Jesus and the Catholic Church. Scripture tells us they are the Bridegroom and Bride. Scripture tells us in marriage the two become ONE.
Are you going to deny Scripture and say that in this case, marriage means only ONE, Jesus, and that the Church is to be ignored at best, despised at worst? That isn’t very Scriptural.
Remember, we aren’t saying we love the Church MORE than Jesus --we are saying that since Jesus and the Church are ONE, we love Him/Them–which ARE ONE–equally.
How could we love Jesus and not love Him as Bridegroom? How, knowing He is the Bridegroom, could we not love the Bride? How, knowing that this spiritual marriage makes the two ONE, could we not realize that Christ is in His Church and His Church is in Him, and that all is One and all is Christ?

Christ leads us to His Church. You mention the Biblical truth, so that might be a good place to start a discussion on this subject,
We believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God. With that thought in mind, I’d like to ask you a question, assuming you believe scriptures to be the inspired word of God.
When God inspired the above scripture to be written, why did He inspire it to say the Church of the living God, is the pillar and ground of truth? If the Bible is all one needs, why didn’t God inspire it be written, “…scriptures, the inspired word of the Living God, is the pillar and ground of truth?”

Underdog, have you noticed that you and others like you are continually trying to construct these artificial ‘either/or’ scenarios about situations that **do not exist **anywhere but in your fevered and confused minds?
We Catholics don’t go around saying, “Hey, I have a Church and I have Christ. Wonder which one I love most?”
We go around saying, “How wonderful. Our Savior established His Church, became a Spiritual Bridegroom and made the Church His Spiritual Bride. The two are now joined as One. How wonderful. We can love our Bride and Groom, spiritually united as One, equally.” We can love Jesus fully and Scripturally.
We don’t have to ‘choose between’ one or the other. They are One.

I believe that there is one true church which God created. It has nothing to do with whatever church we attend on Sundays. You cannot be added to the one true church by attending RICA classes and having water sprinkled on your head.

Well, I’ll accept that, for now. Tell me this, how many different Christian denominations are there in the world today? And, do they all share the same doctrines and beliefs?
