I’ve never seen or heard it worse than it is today.
Agreed… I think we are in the pits. First because the President lies everyday. Second because the 24 news cycle and sensationalism

As an aside, I love your avatar. In my extended family, we call that “smiling Jesus” and He hangs inside the front door in the home of every one of us 🙂

Well, Trump tells blatant lies virtually every time he speaks. He is pathological in his dishonesty. The fact that some people think almost everyone else but Trump is dishonest is disturbing, to say the least. That is cult like weirdness.

CNN is absolutely fake news with no audience. “Shark Week” got double the viewer-ship last week!

The thing that gets me about Trump is that he lies about things that are just so small. Like crowd size, and when he met the Queen. Who cares? It just makes him look silly, the media point it out and then he pushes back against them. And it just continues.

Yet what president hasn’t lied…and multiple times?

Taking this outside the personal, and party line, keeping it purely clinical, and objective, he’s accomplished more in his first 500 days than any of the other previous 44 presidents and in spite of more going against him from every corner, than any president has in my lifetime… I’m actually quite amazed.

I agree— it is absolutely bizarre. He is a very strange man who does and says very strange things. His first full day as President had that wild press conference where then Press secretary Sean Spicer had to go out there and argue something that was obviously false about the crowd at the inauguration. It was surreal. I have virtually no doubt that Trump personally told him that it was essential Spicer argue something that stupid.

Last week, CBS News had the highest rated prime-time broadcast news program with 60 minutes.

For Cable TV, Hannity squeeked past Rachel Maddow

I’m glad fewer people are watching CNN… now if we could do the same for Fox and MSNBC, we’d be in business.

Don’t know if you saw it, but Spicer got hammered for that in an interview with the BBC. Good.

All media outlets have an agenda, but the demonizing has gotten really over the top. Especially when the people leading the charge against the media play pretty fast and loose with the truth themselves…🤐

I like the BBC. They have a lot of stories from parts of the world that are virtually ignored on the 24/7 overly sensationalist cable news channels that go over the same news stories over and over again, injecting more and more hyperbole.

The BBC seems much more sober, and like I said, they truly report events that most news programs skip over because no one cares about what happens in “country z” and it won’t boost ratings.

I like that the presenters don’t inject their own personal opinions into events, it’s so weird to me when I see a clip of news in the US where it seems to matter more what the hosts say than what is actually happening.

That being said, it isn’t without biases and it does have problems of its own. Because of the BBC’s policy of trying to stay politically neutral, you hear two sides on everything and it can be pretty meaningless. Take yesterday, for example, there was a story reporting findings from a charity saying there were X number of children having to share a bed with a sibling because their parents couldn’t afford another. There was then a statement from a spokesperson of Downing Street saying that they are ensuring services are provided to help families in such situations. And that was it - there was no real analysis of whether the government is actually doing so, or if the help in place is working. It’s a bit frustrating sometimes, but other times they will get someone in with knowledge of the field to explain.

Sort of off-topic, sorry. Sometimes I think the BBC’s policy of “take no sides” is good, other times not so good. It’s definitely not perfect but I really do appreciate the lack of sensationalism, and the news from around the world, as you say.

I think both CNN and MSN support and preach the Democratic message and share that exact same world view and values - they are on a moral mission to serve the country by preaching this ideology/political correctness. They hate Trump and attack him and his accomplishments constantly with fury. This extremism dates from the Obama era. Even under Bush 43 it was not like this at CNN, yes MSN. But MSN openly admits to being liberal as Fox does being conservative. They don’t hide it. CNN claims to be neutral. Also I think liberal media is much more radical and hardcore in the last few years than ever before (media has always tilted a bit left in this country; I mean a ‘bit’ before now), perhaps responding to Fox who is so hardcore right - and successful in terms of the ratings. The only problem for CNN is the country isn’t necessarily there with them in outrage; CNN is hemorrhaging viewers; it is unwatchable screeching, especially given so many really positive things are happening in the US domestically, and internationally - Trump is at 50% approval, higher than Obama was at this point in his term (45%) You would think we were under Nazi occupation. The problem is things are better than they have been in years…

I also believe each station has an editorial bias, and picks and chooses which pieces to run, but I don’t believe the news they run is fake. I’ve seen it happen several times when a story is proven to be inaccurate, and I have seen retractions, both in print news and on TV. When people claim it is all fake news, I think they are just sowing mistrust and fear. That annoys me more than anything I see on the news.

Well, we get a lot of that “both sides” stuff here. Regular news shows do that and just report as if both sides have equal arguments. However, especially on cable, where it tries to be entertainment often times the host will bring on one token person for the other side and 2 or 3 that agree with them and gang up on the token person. Or they will just have several people yelling at each other. It is truly deplorable. Nowadays people can just pick news here that tells them what they want to hear. On tv, in print and online. It is very toxic and divisive and has driven people farther apart.
