Do you think priests should be allowed to marry?

No. The Lord said you can only serve on Master. To be a Priest you are dedicated fully to Christ and his word. You are married to him and his Church only. Think about it, how could a priest be a Father, husband, Dad, Grandfather etc. and still be there for everyone of us. Its impossible. Also on the lighter side you know how mad a women can make her husband, could you imagine telling Father your problems just after his got butt chewed by his wife. Nope not a good idea. A priest has to give last rites and must be on call twenty four hours a day, Its the oath he takes. Look how much they have to do as it is. When a Priest takes this oath his promise is to the people. They really dont have a life they have given up that right to serve God only. They are really pretty special people and I thank GOd every day for leaving them for us.
This is insulting to those Catholic priests, both in the Latin Rite, and in other Rites or the Catholic Church, as well as the Orthodox churches, and our early Church Fathers who were or are married. Perhaps part of the solution is for the laity to take on some of the things that have fallen onto the priest…to start carrying our own weight.

Salaries would have to increase…not too expensive.

The RCC currently has thousands of married priests, and has always maintained this is a matter of DISCIPLINE…so no “mistake” IS admited to, nor cost of pride.
Married priests? Are most of those marriages before or after the ordaination?

Im sorry i didnt mean to insult anyone thats just what I was taught, that a priest could not marry because he is to be TOTALLY dedicated to Christ. If you are TOTALLY dedicated there is no time for a family, it is giving yourself TOTALLY for God. I didnt mean to hurt or insult anyone that is just my opinion.

I can’t understand why women can’t be priests. It seems very logical to me that they ought to be.

Who really cares about the genitals of a priest? I guess the RCC cares about the genitals of a priest. Odd that…
Jesus cared enough to appoint men only as his priests and bishops, and he was not concerned about specifica body organs but by the whole person. what a depraved and impoverished view of human beings to identify them solely in this way. also this is off topic, find another thread.

Yes, as many Catholics (myself included) the good nuns and later lay CCD teachers taught this…but it’s not very theologically sound. Total dedication to God does NOT mean one can not have a family. Think of it this way…how many of our canonized saints were married? At least a few, yet they were TOTALLY Dedicated to God. Part of Total Dedication to God can be dedication to family as well. Peter was married and tradition holds that part of his suffering at his execution was to watch his wife be crucified before himself. I doubt you would say that Peter was not totally dedicated to Christ, yet he had a family…as did many of the early Church leaders. Within the Latin Rite of the Church there are married priests…are they not dedicated? WIthin other Rites of the Church there are married priests…are they not dedicated?

Mother Mary wasnt TOTALLY dedicated to God.

Jesus cared enough for the XY chromosome. But not enough for the XX chromosome.
The problem is that too many see the priesthood as a position of power rather than servitude to Christ’s body. There are other ways to serve the body of Christ OTHER THAN ordination, which is for whatever reason God decided, reserved to males. There have been many women hold very important and influential positions in the Church without being ordained. Mary, St. Teresa, Mother Teresa, and many more.

Its BOTH.

A Priest a lot more powerful than a Nun.

A Pope near infinitely powerful than a Mother Superior.

Good point, but I would imagine that one’s focus would be split…between wife/children, and the Church’s needs, etc…

That being said, we are to ALL live focused on Christ, and through our families, we serve God. I don’t view my family as far and away from God–rather, I’m a wife and mother through Christ. I can only be a great wife and mom, if I’m truly devoted to following God’s plan for my life. So, the focus doesn’t shift to my family, from God–rather it’s united.

The difference is that if I were also a nun, let’s say…it would be hard for me to be completely focused on my family’s needs, while say, being called to feed the hungry and poor of India, for example–like some nuns are called to do.

I think I have asked this question before, but I’m having a memory lapse…were priests (RCC) ever allowed to marry in the past?

Always BEFORE ordination. A married man may be ordained to the priesthood but an ordained priest may not marry. This is true in the Orthodox churches as well. It makes for a lot of frenzy in the senior year of seminary when these hairy young dudes are are looking frantically for brides.

You say how could a pirest be a father, husband, dad gradfather etc. As I stated earlier over 20% of all catholic priests worldwide are MARRIED. Please google married priests and sub title to learn who they are and what parishes. Eastern rite catholic priests marry, many lutheran men who converted to catholicism are catholic priests and married. Protestant population is double the catholic population in the USA and men and women ministers are married with children…no problems mentioned. Whats your point?
The president of the United States has a few more responsibilities then any catholic priest......Guess what? he is married!

powerful? In what way?

Christ works through us all…we are not powerful, in any right of our own.
