I guess I should have put that with this post. She is a female. (Distracted) At least she said so in another thread I read.
yeah, Hard to believe, huh??

That a devout Catholiic FEMALE  would not like celibacy all the time in every way every day for ever and always till the end of life…

I mean, you would expect that of men

hmm… :hmmm: I’m glad God is not a misognyist… He gave women just as much desire as men, if not more so…

you do seem a little preoccupied with it…especially other people’s.
guilty as charged… and there is a good reason why… But since i find no real “sympathy” or empathy here… I will keep that to myself…

Oh oh. Don’t tell us a priest has fallen in love with you.

I SAID do NOT tell us!

These days they know going in that they will likely fall in love at least once during their career. Vocation programs and ongoing formation have come a long way in helping them handle it.

More likely, she’s fallen for one of them. :bigyikes:

I could tell you a very sad story about that. I knew someone who enticed a man out of his priesthood, because she had fallen in love with him. (She also had very low self-esteem and wasn’t really trying to date eligible men of her own age.) He believed her flattery, and they made plans to get married.

Of course, once he was released from his priestly vows, it dawned on him that he could have any woman he wanted; he didn’t have to stay with the one who had enticed him out of the priesthood - so he dumped her for a younger woman.

Meanwhile, the original woman is still alone, and still very lonely, and on top of that, she now has the reputation of being a wrecker of vocations. 😦

There are more and more priestless parishes out here (and everywhere else). Why not choose some mature men with longtime, stable marriages and ordain them. For that matter, why not ordain the deacons we already have? As far as we know, the apostles were married–St Peter certainly was. My belief is that not ordaining married men is a question of finances, a matter of having to raise the priest’s salary to support his family.

Win? What is there to win? Is this a game?? :hmmm:
accuses?? hmm… pretty strong words… but anyway, Yes, i have been speaking for priests who are celibate and don’t want to be… because, as stated, i know that is like…

So its okay for you to speak for others but you jumped all over me and asked why I was doing that, and …by the way, I don’t think you have ANY idea what its like for a Priest and if you and one are sharing that info, I suggest you both knock it off.

Yes, you are right. Priests are holy and i am not… a holy person has no sexual desires… and if he/she does - God forbid  (esp she  ) the person keeps them to him/herself…

Oh please…

Oh please yourself, get over it!!

But hey… don’t change the subject:

How long have you been celibate??

That is no one’s business if anyone is or isn’t and we certainly don’t need to know if you are or not, just that you deceided to share that to try to tell us how much you understand the “poor” Priest.

No one seems to want to say… Hm… :hmmm:
Even if I were celibate for the rest of my life I wouldn’t try to claim that I know what its like for a Priest who takes a vow of celibacy. I know that God gives them great graces to carry out that vow. They have only to take advantage of those graces. You said earlier you were speaking for (again) those who didn’t want to remain celibate. (Then why did they take that vow?) It wasn’t something that was thrown in at the last minute when they were ordained that they were unaware of or anything.

yes, they should be warned about such dangerous, life-threatening situations… the poor things…

enticed him?? Ok, let’s blame the slut… and men are never sluts, are they?? Nope, that’s a word used for women only - except that i don’t think like that… a slut is a slut is a slut…
Meanwhile, the original woman is still alone, and still very lonely, and on top of that, she now has the reputation of being a wrecker of vocations. 😦
Yes, the woman has a reputation… Of course… and the priest… well, he was “enticed”…

gotcha…

In that last post i just wrote, I didn’t mean to suggest that either of t hem was a slut… but only that some people (here…) may think that… or something similar…

Falling in love does not make one a slut or a 'wrecker of vocations".

think about a time when you were in love… the love of your life… How would you have felt if someone had said, “You can’t have this person because he made a promise umpteen years ago… Get over it.”

Does it matter to you whether he made the promise to his wife, or to Jesus? 🤷

In either case, if he can’t keep his original promise to Jesus or to his wife, what makes you think he’ll be able to keep any promises that he makes to you? Since he has already proven that he can be talked out of his solemn vows.

You say “How things were more then 1500 years ago is not really a concern today”. With an answer like that then what happened 2000 years ago isn’t a concern today. Thats not a relevant answer. Times change and the church needs to be brought up to date, or before long there will be a split in the church. By the most part USA catholics are way too liberal for the vaticans liking, thats why a US Cardinal will never become a pope with the current regime.
Code:
Recent polls state over 50% of CURRENT roman catholic priests in the USA favour abolishing celibacy. Thats over 24,000 priests in the USA.. Over 65% of catholic laity polled believe celibacy should be relaxed/abolished. Over 80% of catholics have used or practice a form of birth control the church says is a sin. Most catholics don't go to mass regularily or at all. Thats a lot of discention in the catholic church would you not agree, when over half of your believers do not support the vatican in many of their teachings. In business that would be a dismal failure.

So the real question, is why? Why the division of catholic priests/laity regarding celibacy, pre-marital sex, birth control, attending mass, even abortion. Recent polls done by CNN when the pope visited that catholics favour pro choice (abortion) nearly as much as the general population. Over 49% of catholics are pro choice. I am pro life but has nothing to do with being catholic thats my personal choice

Western/Eastern European countries catholic church mass attendance in some countrie is below 10%.

I know when I attended grade school in the 50s/early 60s that these topics were not even issues. Quick changes among the laity and church stewards (priests) are occuring. Why?
I think that we should always look back to two thousand years ago, but only at the actions of Jesus and Apostles and relate this to our times, Dogma is a state of holiness, that we do not often even come close to. Stats are all well and good but always fail to convince the hard hearted, I think it is better to remain faithful to the Dogma, even though some of the Apostles were married the reason for celibacy is like all virtues it is to bring the soul closer to God, this action or work is the goal of all Catholics.

Seems you’re the one that needs to get over it, its a fact, you can’t have that person that make a vow (either to another woman in Marriage) or to God as a celibate Priest.

for one thing, i am not “obviously” struggling with anything… I sometimes struggle… I am not obsessed with losing celibacy every day, every minute of the day… In fact, now that i think about it, i hardly struggle at all anymore. I’ve gotten used to it… but there are times when… (sigh)… Long Story!!! I don’t have time or inclination to get into it… but in any case, i am not “struggling” as much as some may think… U can get used to anything…

And you still come across as presumptous because you don’t know how mnay priests are “struggling” and how many are not… the only reason i tend to think that many of them are (define “many”)… is because i know what its like to have to say No to my desires 24/7… 365… for a long, long time. Thats all…

And not all priests (…hate to disillusion you) are filled with thoughts of nothing but God and His purposes… They are as human as anyone else…

And not all sex-crazed people lik me are un-spritual, either… 😃

i attend Mass daily… spend much time with Jesus at the Blessed Sacrament… I just think it woiuld kinda cool to have someone to share Jesus with…

and i think many priests probably feel the same way… Of course, i have not taken a poll of priests… (someone probably has, though…)…
Okay, I read this post and now see you are a female.

But let me get this straight. When I make a comment about priests possibly not struggling I am being presumptuous…but when you say they are struggling you are not being presumptuous. Can’t have it both ways.

It’s obvious that you have a problem with this, hence the term “struggle”. Why else would you go on and on and on and on about something that priests have chosen to do in their own lives…that is, become priests along with all that that entails. Something strange here.
