No, they support Israel because they believe Israel is God’s chosen people.I was shocked, but then I remembered they support Israel to hasten end times at Megiddo or something. Well, wouldn’t it seem reasonable to think some might think electing Obama would serve that purpose?
I grew up in fundamentalist circles, and never heard the hint of a suggestion that we should support evil in order to hasten the end times. (Not saying that Obama is evil, but we all know that fundamentalists think he is.) I did encounter two things that bothered me in this regard:
- An unwillingness at times to fight evil because of the fatalistic assumption that it’s all part of God’s timetable; and
- A willingness to support actions that we might normally consider evil (like certain aspects of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians) because of beliefs about the end times. But in this case it wasn’t “let’s support the bad guys to hasten the End.” It was “the Israelis must be the good guys because they are God’s people and He has brought them back to their land in preparation for the End.”
