If anyone had said that you should not want your sons to be happy then, yes, that would be ridiculous. But nobody said it. They have said that a thing is not right just because somebody wants it, or because it makes them happy.…and as far as others saying it’s wrong for us to want our children to be happy…that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life! Any random person who happens to read this thread and sees that sentiment repeated would think that Catholics are seriously warped. Yes, I know true happiness comes from within. But how can it be wrong to want our children to be happy? To be loved, have a roof over his head, food in his belly, a decent education, parents who love and support and encourage him, make him feel safe, and YES, want to see him smiling and HAPPY? YES, I WANT MY SONS TO BE HAPPY! And if one of my sons finds love and HAPPINESS with a man…as much as I may not like it…if it brings him joy in his heart, then I have to support and accept it.

The Bible has been translated so many times. I know that a lot has been lost in translation and has probably been skewed to fit the moralistic beliefs of men of the time of those translations. The greatest rule is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.” and " Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thy self".
I think we ALL need to remember that. THAT is the bottom line, folks. Stop with the hating, the condeming, the preaching and just start trying to uphold that commandment. It doesn’t say to exclude gays or anyone else. THAT IS THE WORD OF OUR LORD.
Did God provide any teachings to guide right from wrong in respect of sexuality? Read the following verses (you can just google each reference) and make your own assessment.
Leviticus 18:22 (old testament)
Deuteronomy 23:17 (old testament)
I Corinthians 6:9
Ephesians 5:3
Corinthians 5:1; 6:13, 18
Romans 1:24-27
I Timothy 1:10
Jude 7
There is “hating” in the world, but its not being expressed here. Perhaps we are guilty of preaching (on a board that no one looks at except by their choice!). Occasionally, I see the sinner condemned, which is wrong, but mostly it’s the actions that are condemned. But nothing in what I have said, or the church says, runs counter to the great commandment you quote. The church does not abandon any of the flock that have strayed, and nor should you abandon your son. The church urges those who have left the path to return, and supports them in their struggle.
