Does anyone here, that believes in God, actually think that God accepts gay marriage?

…and as far as others saying it’s wrong for us to want our children to be happy…that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life! Any random person who happens to read this thread and sees that sentiment repeated would think that Catholics are seriously warped. Yes, I know true happiness comes from within. But how can it be wrong to want our children to be happy? To be loved, have a roof over his head, food in his belly, a decent education, parents who love and support and encourage him, make him feel safe, and YES, want to see him smiling and HAPPY? YES, I WANT MY SONS TO BE HAPPY! And if one of my sons finds love and HAPPINESS with a man…as much as I may not like it…if it brings him joy in his heart, then I have to support and accept it.

The Bible has been translated so many times. I know that a lot has been lost in translation and has probably been skewed to fit the moralistic beliefs of men of the time of those translations. The greatest rule is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.” and
" Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thy self".

I think we ALL need to remember that. THAT is the bottom line, folks. Stop with the hating, the condeming, the preaching and just start trying to uphold that commandment. It doesn’t say to exclude gays or anyone else. THAT IS THE WORD OF OUR LORD.
If anyone had said that you should not want your sons to be happy then, yes, that would be ridiculous. But nobody said it. They have said that a thing is not right just because somebody wants it, or because it makes them happy.

Did God provide any teachings to guide right from wrong in respect of sexuality? Read the following verses (you can just google each reference) and make your own assessment.

Leviticus 18:22 (old testament)
Deuteronomy 23:17 (old testament)
I Corinthians 6:9
Ephesians 5:3
Corinthians 5:1; 6:13, 18
Romans 1:24-27
I Timothy 1:10
Jude 7

There is “hating” in the world, but its not being expressed here. Perhaps we are guilty of preaching (on a board that no one looks at except by their choice!). Occasionally, I see the sinner condemned, which is wrong, but mostly it’s the actions that are condemned. But nothing in what I have said, or the church says, runs counter to the great commandment you quote. The church does not abandon any of the flock that have strayed, and nor should you abandon your son. The church urges those who have left the path to return, and supports them in their struggle.

Wow. That’s a pretty stunning statement to make. Have you been reading the news in the last 25 years?
The public’s reaction to it in the past 25 years has caused harm to homosexuals. AIDS and HIV (which are not limited to gays) has caused harm. But homosexuality in itself hasn’t caused harm to anyone. If you say that it has, than you’d have to include heterosexuality, too.

This discussion has occurred ad nauseum on this forum and elsewhere. I’m not rehashing the mountain of evidence. I’m going to say only that one has to be very determined to believe a thing, despite all evidence to the contrary, to make such statements.

And it’s sad, because when you don’t understand the root causes of a problem–or refuse to understand them–you’ll work tirelessly for years on end and achieve absolutely nothing to help people you claim to care about.

We are not to say what God condones.
Indeed. God has said that He condones homosexual actions, not us.
God makes the final judgments on us.
Yup.
Homosexuality is not causing anyone harm.
Homosexual actions are.
It gives busy bodies something to talk about.
Like God?
There are a million more important and vital issues that ALL churches and ALL people should concern themselves with: Starving people, sick people, places devastated by natural disasters and man-made disasters, homelessness, poverty…
If you think the Church doesn’t also deal with these, then you live under a rock. 🤷
ya know, who cares who someone is sleeping with.
God.
There are much bigger things in life.
By what authority do you speak?
Concern yourselves with helping those in need and being kind to others. Do good.
You’re assuming I don’t?
God sees all.
Yup.
I don’t think my God would punish any homosexuals just because they were homosexuals.
Me neither. But homosexual actions are something else, a choice that leads away from God and His love. Those sin punish themselves.
I’m pretty sure that’s a pretty trivial thing when you consider all the troubles this planet has right now.
By what authority do you speak?
He looks for the good in people.
Yes. And as you say, He sees all, including sinful actions. That’s not to say we don’t look for His mercy, certainly…but really, how much mercy we can expect when we do things that we know are sinful? People make their own choices, and wind up where those choices lead. Sin and mercy are polar opposites.

If you think homosexuality is a bigger problem that those I mentioned, then you, sir, are living under a rock. 2 men in love or 2 women in love, who are faithful to each other, support and love each other and do good for others…that is not wrong.

Say what you will, but the God I know wouldn’t think it’s wrong either.

I am now officially through with this forum.

Ciao, folks…may God have mercy on all our souls.

Sorry you think that way. ** Thankfully not all think as you do**.

And this is a reason, both why people get very tired of these sorts of discussions, and just one reason I don’t believe the people supporting these ideas actually have much of a leg to stand on: because they so routinely resort to insults. And simply announcing that they know how God thinks…based on what?

Believe as you like, but in fact the Bible and the Catholic Catechism are the best., most reasonable sources we as humans have, on which to base our conclusions of what God really thinks. And they tell us repeatedly that homosexual behavior is problematic. This view is only backed up by history, medical issues, and more.

But somehow it always comes down to insulting anyone who points out facts. “You’re living under a rock.” Okay. Yeah. That totally changes everything.

It is a red flag when someone is asked if an action is wrong and their reply is “well, there are worse things”. It is also a red flag when someone says “the God I know”, referring to a private revelation that opposes those things proclaimed by those who made God known to them in the first place.

But yes, may God have mercy on us all; that is something we can all get behind.

I can’t believe I just read this, you are definitely very poorly informed. It does matter who someone is sleeping with. If you have AIDS, it matters who you are sleeping with. If you have herpes or any sexually transmitted disease it matters who you are sleeping with. If you are not ready to be a mother or father it matters who you are sleeping with. If you are married it matters who you are sleeping with. If you have children it matters who you are sleeping with. Sick people, starving people, homelessness and poverty, I wonder how different that would be if people concerned themselves with who they are sleeping with. A family member of mine and his siblings were poor and homeless because their father said the same thing. What does it matter who I am sleeping with and then deserted them because it didn’t matter. Well, it does matter. It matters a great lot. It matters to each and every persons dignity, including yours, so I hope that is not your attitude for relationships because God has a much greater plan for you than that.

Just because there are other problems doesn’t mean one particular problem is irrelevant.

God doesn’t punish homosexuals because they are homosexuals. God is a loving and just God, who knows everyones heart but we will all be judged by our actions. Homosexuals too, can lead chaste and godly lives and there are many that do.

Also, I am a nurse who has worked with AIDS patients in the past and have seen death from poor choices and I can’t tell you how many men regretted their past lives of being sexually involved with another man. I have seen the physical and emotional trauma that accompanies this lifestyle. The anger, the sadness because they didn’t listen or someone kept telling them it is okay, nothing will happen to you and believed the lie that it is okay…? Best look before you think this is not harming anyone.

Problem is today many don’t care. They would rather use the homosexual for a vote or a movie or tv show that brings in a lot of money or a youth novelist who thinks the subject would be popular and therefore can make a lot of money. That is not caring but just meanness and extremely sad. Using someone for personal gain without any care of the end result to that person, only selfish gain.

False hope is all the world is offering homosexuals or anyone for that matter. Jesus Christ is the only answer and he can individually bring peace to each and everyone but not if they listen to lies such as, “it doesn’t matter who anyone sleeps with.”

I would suggest you visit the website of the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and read for yourselves. It is really sad that the world has silenced the CDC and they are not loudly informing people of the dangers of an active homosexual lifestyle, yet allowing the world to encourage young men to pursue this lifestyle. It is like giving them poison. Check it out:

cdc.gov/hiv/statistics/basics/ataglance.html

I would also encourage you to visit the website Courage and read personal testimonies.

Also, if you are homosexual or have homosexual family members God is there. God is ready to listen to prayers and wants to bring them home and bring them peace. Never give false hope but a sure cure of Jesus Christ. Pray.

All sin is a problem, and the Church address it all.
2 men in love or 2 women in love, who are faithful to each other, support and love each other and do good for others…that is not wrong.
I assume that in this context, the couple is having sexual relations, in which case you are wrong. 🤷 God has said so, through virtually every channel of communication and teaching that we have from Him.
Say what you will, but the God I know wouldn’t think it’s wrong either.
It could be that you don’t know God as well as you think you do.
I am now officially through with this forum.
That’s a pity. No-one ever grows in their knowledge by secluding themselves in an echo chamber.
Ciao, folks…may God have mercy on all our souls.
Ciao, and yes indeed. May we all offer up prayer and our daily sufferings in reparation for the slights and sins against our Lord, who loved us enough to die for those very sins.

But somehow it always comes down to insulting anyone who points out facts. “You’re living under a rock.” Okay. Yeah. That totally changes everything.
To be fair, I told this poster that they were living under a rock first, if they thought that the Church ignored other problems besides homosexual acts. I didn’t think it insulting in my context, just making a descriptive statement, and I think Chizzy was too (though illogical in his/her case).

Beautifully said.

And many are afraid to say anything, because they’ll be called names, or their very livelihoods threatened. It’s a shame because I believe it is those promoting this behavior who lack genuine love. I can’t in a million years imagine encouraging my children to engage in behaviors that may harm them.

Noble of you to step up, lol. I will say that your living under a rock comment regarded facts–the church is factually addressing many, many problems in this world. His living under a comment involved someone’s subjective belief about which is worse. Not sure if that makes a difference, just an observation.

I wonder why you have remarked, a few times in reference to your son’s homosexuality that “you don’t like it”? If it is good and right, why don’t you like it?

We are not to say what God condones. God makes the final judgments on us.
The above 2 comments do not follow from each other. While it is indeed true that God makes the final judgments on us (and I don’t think there’s anyone here who is of the opinion that God **doesn’t **make final judgments), that isn’t to say that we can’t say what God condones.

Or, to put it without all the double negatives: we can, and indeed MUST, say what God condones.

Otherwise, we cannot say that God finds it loathsome that people proclaim that He hates homosexuals.

We cannot say that God does not condone adultery.

We cannot say that God does not condone murder.

We cannot say that God does not condone pornography.

We would be left to be tossed to a fro by every wind of human cunning and deception.

Thank you! I think the Pope hit the nail right on the head.
May I ask, what exactly did you get out of it? Could you please read my previous posts here and let me know what you think. #167, #168, #169

Thank you.

YES, I WANT MY SONS TO BE HAPPY!
May I just clear that up for you and say without a doubt, that it’s not wrong for us to want our children to be happy, it is absolutely wrong to want our children to be miserable. I’m not sure where you got that idea from. I believe you may have read something into someone elses posts that was not intended.
And if one of my sons finds love and HAPPINESS with a man…as much as I may not like it…if it brings him joy in his heart, then I have to support and accept it.
This is where I believe you have misinterpreted people, may I ask, if your son found hapiness in murdering people (as many serial killers do) would you have to support and accept it? Where does he derive his hapiness from? Those who look to their sexual desires for hapiness and fulfillment I believe will only find themselves in despair.
Not all Catholics feel the same way about this and many other things that are frowned upon on this forum. My mother, who is a devout Catholic who’s father was going to become a priest until he met her mother, who has had priests and nuns in her family, who goes to Mass every week…she is understanding and less judgmental that a lot of the folks here. She even thinks it’s great that we switch off every other week between going to my husband’s Methodist church and our Catholic church.
sigh So what is the reasoning behind this? she thinks it’s great that you distance yourself from Christ? may I ask, what do you believe about the holy eucharist? that precious gift where Chirst comes down and feeds us with his body blood soul and divinity?
The Bible has been translated so many times. I know that a lot has been lost in translation and has probably been skewed to fit the moralistic beliefs of men of the time of those translations.
Even those who heard the words come out of Christ’s mouth, who witnessed the miracles he performed, still found a way to reject him and his teachings. 😦

Chizzywinks, you just make me really tired, do you care at all for the truth? are you ruled by indifference and mediocrity? do you simply wish to believe whatever you want to believe?

There are many men and women who are like Pilate, upon having the truth infront of them can only think of saying “What is truth.” because like Pilate they are affraid, because truth implies obligations, truth implies commitment, truth makes demands, once we acknowledge the truth, living with the status quo becomes much harder, But don’t be afraid of teh truth Chizzywinks, because as the light uncovers our sins, love is also there ready to cover them. The truth will set you free.

I try to see God in all people. What they are or are not doing in private is between them (their confessor) and God. If the state wishes to make money off granting them marriage licenses, that’s the state’s business. I don’t foresee the Catholic church sanctifying those marriages anytime soon so there really is no threat. Sanctifying gay marriages in a church seems inappropriate to me.

Okay, but why would Christians vote for it? why would any Christian advocate it? that’s what I don’t understand.

I have found that Same sex marriage advocates always seem to refer to it as ‘marriage equality’ and that to be against same sex civil marriage is discrimination (or whatever term they use). However if we are discriminating or are against ‘marriage equality’ by saying that marriage is between a man and a woman. If we don’t have the right to ‘force’ … as they say, our definition of marriage being between a man and a woman onto them, than what right do they have to force their definition of marriage being between two people onto those who think it should be between more than two people? and etc etc

Therefore they would have to advocate the legalisation of every union that someone at a whim or fancy wished to call a marriage, or they themselves are also discriminating and are against ‘marriage equality’. Thus opening the door to many other definitions and once marriage can mean anything, than pretty soon it means nothing.

I was watching a Dr Phil episode where he had both sides on and was talking about SSM, and he mentioned along the lines of “How will allowing this homosexual couple to marry affect your marriage?”

On the outside I believe this looks like a good question (one used often by same sex marriage advocates).

However, No one is imposing any other unions someone at a whim or fancy wishes to call a marriage on me either, they are just including it into the definition and saying “If you don’t agree with it, than just don’t do it” but once marriage can mean anything, than pretty soon it means nothing.

And as Ender so well articulated it for me on another thread in reply to what I said here -
40.png
Ender:
I don’t think this point is fully appreciated. Once the definition of marriage becomes accepted as nothing more than an arbitrary definition by the state, then there are no logical arguments to set any limits to it at all. One woman in Washington (state) wanted to marry her house, well - why not? No one is forcing you to marry a house. You aren’t harmed if she marries a house. How do we justify discriminating against her? It sounds ludicrous but if we accept that the meaning of the term marriage is completely arbitrary then we have no rational basis on which to place any limit at all.
I believe Ender is absolutely correct here.

I believe Marriage being only between a man and a woman used to be a self evident truth, that is soundly backed up with a quick study of the reproductive organs (biology 101) but with the total rejection of this, how do you place any limit at all on it?

Many people say “How does this change (same sex marriage) in civil marriage change the Sacrament of Matrimony in any way?” as if we should therefore advocate it and legalise it as a “live and let live” or “tolerance” thing.

In which I would pose the same scenario above and say, “How does this change (recognising this woman and her house as married) in civil marriage change the Sacrament of Matrimony in any way?” the answer would be, it doesn’t. I believe It instead makes a mockery of marriage and once marriage can mean anything, than pretty soon it means nothing.
