Oh damn, that sucks, don’t care much about 2 but definitely unfortunate about 1 and 3. Hate it when they jump around the timeline all the time and lol at point 2 when one only see’s two enemy planes in the film.

Thank you.

God Bless You

Here is a good documentary which offers a good explanation I think.

43:00 - 47:05

I hope this has helped

I watched that part of the documentary. Do you believe the story? Slaughtering
340,000 soldiers that were trapped like sitting ducks should have been a dream come true for Hitler. Did his conscience bother him? I guess the French surrendered
soon after. I read something the other day that the French are furious with the movie
because it leaves them out of the story. I don’t know if he wanted to teach the generals a lesson. What are your thoughts?

Of the recent retro 70mm movies (e.g., Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” and P.T. Anderson’s “The Master”), this looks way more wide-screen - but, I would have liked to see it in a 70mm-equipped theater because the soundtrack is WAY TOO LOUD - EARPLUGS LOUD - as it’s essentially being showed in the “wrong format” in most theaters. FYI, here’s a list of where it’s showing in 70mm format:

Maybe AH was just borderline schizophrenic?

I’m hoping to see it next week. I’m fairly familiar with the victorious retreat that was Dunkirk, so I always like serious WW2 dramas.

What are your thoughts?
[SPOILERS]

I would have liked to see more thought given to how the citizen fleet was mobilized. That was shown only as a done deal, as some of the boats descended upon Dunkirk; but one expects an enormous effort was made to get them going in time.

Yes there could have been a little more detail.

Hitler thought the world should initially be divided up into four parts, the German Empire Hitler was in the process of building, North and South America already dominated by the United States, the worldwide British Empire, and the Japanese Empire which, like the German Empire, was also under construction.

Hitler thought that after beating the British so soundly, they would sue for peace. He thought that his obviously generous treatment (or at least generous from a military point of view) of the British troops would convince the British of his great respect for the British Empire.

Ultimately though, Germany would have to do battle with all three (including his ally Imperial Japan) of the other empires and eventually come to rule the world . . . or so he thought . . .

As far as seeing the movie goes, I gave up on all (or nearly all) magazines, newspapers, movies and television back in 2008, so no, I will not be seeing it.

Definitely generous from a military standpoint!

Thanks for sharing.

I believe the story, the other theory, is that he wanted to make peace with Great Britain as another poster mentioned and I’ve heard before, but if that were the case, why did he bomb some of the ships?

So I think the theory that it was a showdown between Hitler and his Generals to be more likely.

I hope this has helped

I used to think something like that, but IMO a showdown between Hitler and his Generals makes more sense, since if he wanted to sue for peace with Great Britain, I don’t know why he would have bombed some of the ships.

I have never heard the terms “sue for peace”.

I guess Hitler wanted the generals to know he was boss, and that he knew better than they did. I saw the movie and thought it was quite good, though it showed little about the french troops.
Funny thing is, my grandfather’s cousin Carl was a general at the time. Generaloberst Carl Hilpert was Chief of Staff to Field Marshal Von Rundstedt and late Field marshal von Wiztleben ,who was later executed by the nazis for his part in the lplot to kill Hitler. Later on the british staged a Raid on St.Naziere. Hitler blamed the british success of the raid on the failure of the german troops which Carl was in charge of.Hitler put him “in reserve” before shipping him off to the Russian front. He was the last commander of Army Group Courland , and died in a russian prision camp in 1948. Historians have looked at the raid and said the failure of the germans wasn’t Carl’s fault. I’m sure he and his boss at the time must have been shaking their heads over what Hitler did which made no sense. If Stalin had been in the same situation, believe me he wouldn’t hesitate for his troops to annihlate the british troops if Britian and Russia were enemies.

So has anyone seen this yet?
I have, just today actually. I liked it, though not as much as the professional reviews did. If they gave it a 5/5 I give a solid 4/5. If I’m being really critical a 3.5/5.

What was it about the movie that disappointed?

I’ll go see it. I hate to go to the theater alone and this sounds like one of the few movies i can talk him into.
