What an elegant illustration of 2 Timothy 3.[dumps an uncommented thousand-word cut-and-paste into the thread instead of responding to a simple request to explain himself]

I do not want to argue with you. I’ll leave the interpretation of what Pope John Paul II meant to the reader and to yourself. What an elegant illustration of 2 Timothy 3.
Precisely. And the Father doesn’t “have” anything, He IS.
Well, God the Father has ME through Jesus Christ!:extrahappy:

to the Church…I do not want to argue with you. I’ll leave the interpretation of what Pope John Paul II meant to the reader and to yourself.

No, of course not, That would be too hard.I do not want to argue with you. I’ll leave the interpretation of what Pope John Paul II meant to the reader and to yourself.
Yes, it is difficult to discuss certain things with people who have opposite convictions. I was hoping we would let certain convictions alone, and pray for the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ to prevail. No, of course not, That would be too hard.
I shake the dust from my shoes.neophyte:![]()
*You are arrogating to yourself the authority that Christ gave to the teaching authority of the Church, so in effect you are a Protestant. You are a member of a denomination which consists of a single person - yourself.*These are the convictions that God has put on my soul. No Catholic is required to believe them. Tell me how they upset the clear message of the saving gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and then I will shut up.It’s not that your opinions may be right or wrong which makes you a Protestant, it’s the fact that you’ve made an act of the will to reject the teaching authority which Christ gave to the Church which he established. You have established yourself as your own teaching authority.zarthan;7248314:
Finally, if the Catholic church denies that God has a soul, then of course, I will believe the holy word of God over the teaching of the Catholic church.
By this line of reasoning, you have therefore justified everything that the Mormons teach, everything that Jehovah Witnesses teach and so on. Everything, everyone teaches is based on what they read in Sacred Scripture. You CAN NOT read Sacred Scripture apart from its Divinely ordained Tradition AND arrive at the TRUTH. At one time it was the Hebrews/Jews, now it is the Catholic Church. The true understanding of Scriptures can only be understood in light of the Divinely ordained Tradition, that has the responsibility for safeguarding and expounding from those Holy Scriptures.Does it really matter what one another believes regarding the mysterious nature of God the Father as long as it does not contradict holy scripture?
God knows the many years I spent in studying his holy scriptures and the early church fathers by the inspiration of His Holy Spirit.,Tthere is very little that I am in disagreement with the Catholic church on faith and morals. The saints of the Catholic church are living examples of that faith. The nature of God the Father is a mystery, and anyone who thinks they can define God completely are fooling themselves.By this line of reasoning, you have therefore justified everything that the Mormons teach, everything that Jehovah Witnesses teach and so on. Everything, everyone teaches is based on what they read in Sacred Scripture. You CAN NOT read Sacred Scripture apart from its Divinely ordained Tradition AND arrive at the TRUTH. Do you suppose the Sacred Text is like a Chilton’s car manual? The Sacred text was never designed to TEACH. The Divinely ordained Tradition teaches. The Sacred text supports and proves that teaching.
When “soul” is used in the Old Testament it is synonymous with the Greek understanding of "being’ (a word not in the OT vocabulary). Thus “soul” when employed in the OT is used in the sense of “being” or having a “personhood” - a personal identity, not as having a “soul” (psyche) in the Greek sense of a “mind”/“intellect” in union with a physical body (true in man’s case and not true in God Who is Uncreated Spirit); thus your question “does God the Father have a soul” can only be answered “no”. I note your change from “have” to “is”, btw. There are at least 15 scriptures which state God is soul or attributes a soul to God. I do not know in what way one is to understand these scriptures. Our Lord Jesus Christ has said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by **every word **that proceeds from the mouth of God.” If the Catholic church teaches that these scriptures are to be disregarded, then of course I will reject their teaching, because they are rejecting the teaching of Jesus Christ.
All that you say above is specious and dissembling. Why? Because a little child obeys his God given guardians (his parents) in humility and without question. That is EXACTLY the characteristic of little children that Jesus was referring to when he said that the Kingdom of Heaven is filled with such as these. It is NOT like a little child to question his parents decisions and more, to decide that they are wrong and not to be obeyed. If a little child does act in this way, he is sternly reprimanded and corrected, just as you have been in this thread. It is Greek philosophy that treats the holy scriptures like a Chilton’s manual. Our heavenly Father wants us to know him from our hearts, like little children. We will never approach him with our intellects, they get in the way. Whatever way helps us to approach him humbly from our hearts is the way He will reveal His nature and character to us. In the total scope of the picture, He wants us to know that he is the perfect example of an earthly father who loves and chastises his children whom he loves. If it helps me to know that my Heavenly Father is soul with divine emotions of love, mercy, joy, longsuffering, gentleness, kindness, peace and temperance, but also can be stern and is displeased with our disobedience. Is that so bad?
