I was stunned when I was told by a Muslim that Adam’s disobedience to God was not a sin but only a **grevious **mistake   😃 !

This makes me ask: “Does Islam have a definition of sin”? If disobeying God’s commands is not a sin, then what is a sin?

Also, if Adam’s disobedience wasn’t a sin, was Eve’s disobedience a sin?

Also, if Adam’s disobedience wasn’t a sin, was Eve’s disobedience a sin?
Bingo! Eve’s disobedience was and is a sin in Islam, as witnessed by hundreds of stonings, acid throwing (in their faces), honor killing, etc of women. This is further magnified by the Qur’an’s revelation that women are “weak” and have no brains of their own. Of course, Muslims will tell you otherwise, “Oh i wear the burkha because it brings out my feminity, blah blah blah”because it protects me from evil and gives me dignity, blah blah blah…"

No answer as yet? Cmon Muslims, give me your definition of sin.

"Then Adam received from his Lord Words ]. And his Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily, He is the One Who **forgives **(accepts repentance), the Most Merciful "

Sura 2-32

They said: “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You **forgive **us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.”

Sura 7-22

Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance

Sura 20-121

Therefore,I think Adam sinned.

not sure if this is helpful to discussion:
**
Does Allah forgive shirk? Shirk is considered the worst of all sins, but the author of the Qur’an seems unable to decide if Allah will ever forgive it or not. No [4:48, 116], Yes [4:153, 25:68-71]. Abraham committed this sin of polytheism as he takes moon, sun, stars to be his Lord [6:76-78], yet Muslims believe that all prophets are without any sin.

Allah does NOT forgive shirk:
Code:
Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgiveth anything else, to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin most heinous indeed. -- Sura 4:48

Allah forgiveth not (the sin of) joining other gods with Him; but He forgiveth whom He pleaseth other sins than this: one who joins other gods with Allah, Hath strayed far, far away (from the right). -- Sura 4:116
Allah forgives shirk (even in the same sura):
Code:
... Yet they [the Israelites] worshipped the calf even after Clear Signs had come to them; even so We forgave them; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority. -- Sura 4:153 **
even if you do get a definition of sin, we still won’t know if it’s forgivable or not.

NO because islam IS SIN ! ITs EVIL, Its DESTRUCIVE, Its ANTI-CHRIST, ITS an ABOMINATION to the LORD !!

Question: What is the difference between sin and mistakes? What role does Shaytaan, the accursed one, play in sin?

Fault means any action that takes place unintentionally and **sin is with intention. **
For example, Shaytaan put such ideas into the heart of Hazrat Adam (a.s.) to approach the tree. Adam did it and as a result, Allah sent him to the earth. Similarly, Hazrat Yunus (Jonah) committed a fault and he adopted that way prohibited to him according to the instruction of Allah. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an that it was Shaytaan who put the idea into Hazrat Adam and Hazrat Yunus (a.s.), so there is no doubt that Shaytaan can put these ideas into the hearts of the Nabiyeen to divert their attention from the right way. But the mistakes they commit are only according to the Hikmat of Allah. These mistakes are below the standards of the Nabiyeen, so we can not point it out that they took place according to the Order of Allah. We must say Shaytaan is responsible. All the good things take place from the Kindness of Allah while all of the bad things are due to Shaytaan. The awliya are not free from this was-wâs (evil whispers), but if this was-wâs happens to any wali, as soon as he realizes it, he busies himself in tawba (repentance). But on the other hand, the common people, when they commit a sin, they do not realize it and they do not feel guilty about it.

Muslims I can love. But I dont even like people speaking gentle about islam.

this is a very Dangerous Religion and way of Life. If I were given the power I would OUTLAW islam…

LOL

I have an answer to this question… I actually remember when I was taking a class with my sheikh on aqeedah, we talked about major and minor sins in Islam, but before we got started, the sheikh asked us (the class) the question:

“What is sin?”

We sat there kind of stumped and not sure how to answer the question… since it seems like a vague concept anyway. What is sin? Just think about it.

And then he gave us the answer.

So what, you might be wondering, is the definition of sin?

Sin is that thing which makes a person a sinner! 👍

Actually, there is no distinction in Islam between the sin of Adam and the sin of Eve. They both sinned. And they both repented. And they were both forgiven.

There is absolutely no relation to Eve with anything that you said in Islam. I mean, I’ve never heard it in any class on Islam with anything to do with women. First of all, stoning is a punishment applied equally to men as to women. In fact, it can’t even be applied to a woman only. I’ve never heard of acid-throwing in Islam, sounds like it wouldn’t be allowed. Honor killings as I’ve mentioned before on this site are forbidden in a variety of different ways by which they violate sacred law. Women are given certain rights and protections in the Qur’an which you cannot take away.

There is a major distinction between the Christian view of Eve vs. the Muslim one. While Islam blames each individual for their own sin, it seems like all of mankind is doomed because of Eve, and Eve is specifically blamed and smeared in the Bible, isn’t she? Whereas in Islam both are responsible for their sin, both repent, both forgiven.

Women have the same spiritual worth in Islam, the same spiritual obligations, except that they actually get a break, and have a ligher burden regarding some religious obligations. Some scholars have even mentioned that this is because women are spiritually superior to men. In that they have greater comprehension of spirituality because of their nature. 🙂

So what makes a person a sinner? Don’t say, “Allah knows best.” 😃
Doing something that Allah has forbidden, or avoiding something He has commanded.

For example, Allah has forbidden backbiting, therefore it is a sin.
And Allah has commanded 2.5% of wealth in charity, so withholding that is a sin.

I hope you’re a true Muslim. I don’t think Hamba2han would agree with you. According to him, all prophets of God, including Adam, are sinless. He said that Adam’s eating of the fruit was a **grevious error ** and not a sin. Whom should I believe now? You or Hamba2han?

If that is the definition, then Adam did indeed sin. You also agree with it. Let me see what Hamba2han has to say now.

Both Eve and Adam are blamed. Please point out the verses where you think Eve is specifically mentioned and smeared. Adam is also blamed in the following verses.

Romans 5:12-19

Therefore as sin came into the world** through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned – sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man’s sin**. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification. If, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Then as **one man’s trespass **led to condemnation for all men, so one man’s act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men. For as by **one man’s disobedience **many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Here’s a great response from a site I frequently use:

According to Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah: "The belief that the Prophets are free of major sins, but not of minor sins, is the opinion of the **majority of Islamic scholars **and of all (Muslim) groups… It is the opinion of **most mufassireen **(commentators on the Qur’an), **scholars of hadeeth and fuqaha’ **(jurists).”

… and it goes on to say…

"The majority of scholars take the following as evidence to support their claim that the Prophets are not free from minor sins:

Adam’s sin in eating from the tree…"

And a list of other sins made by some of the Prophets. We call them minor sins or you can call them grievous errors but I’ll call them minor sins because that’s what the scholars call them. So don’t believe me, but believe these scholars of Islam who know much more than I do. 👍

Both Eve and Adam are blamed. Please point out the verses where you think Eve is specifically mentioned and smeared. Adam is also blamed in the following verses.
Read Genesis 3. Eve is the deceitful one who listens to Satan and then tempts her husband. According to Genesis, Adam actually blames his wife for his sin!

Look at this: To the woman he said,
“I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”

I am a woman… I don’t know if you are. But it was always clear to me that there was a bias against women in the Bible, that they were considered deceitful and inherently evil because of Eve who ate of the tree. Whereas in Islam, that isn’t the case at all. Both are held equally responsible for the sin, and Adam does not blame his wife. Seems more gender-neutral to me personally. 🤷
