Does the Catholic Church accept Mormons as your brother and sisters in Christ?

We should be respectful of others beliefs, in spite of doctrinal differences with them. They are children of the same God as we all are regardless of differences in doctrine.

I wouldn’t be so quick to judge. Mormons are not leading people to hell. In fact, just the opposite. You need to study just how mormons live their daily lives. It is not so bad. They have morning and evening prayer as a family. They say a blessing over the food they eat. They read the scriptures daily, if possible and they attempt to obey the commandments.

Far from going to hell. No one gets a car…but they do help the poor and the needy with food if necessary. There are many things this world should be rid of, but mormons are not one of them.
There are only two groups in this world.

We have old creation and new creation, or

We have those united to Christ, and those who are still united to Adam.

Morality and good works are not the gospels which reconciles sinners to God. There are atheists who do more good works than Christians, and can be more moral than Christians. If you read Romans 1, 2 and 3, morality and good works salvation will lead you to Hell.

Our heart for anybody in Adam is to see them moved from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light through the historic living Jesus Christ as revealed in Sacred Scripture.

1 John 3:10
By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

Heirs with Christ
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. - Rom 8

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. - John 1

Please can someone rid the world of this non-christian and false organization. Last year, I went to Western Samoa in the South Pacific and believe me this is spreading like hell fire in that country. I was told that they give material handouts (such as cars) to people just to lure them.
This is a clear case of leading people to HELL.
According to the Catholic Magisterium, are Mormons your siblings in Christ, or are they the mission field?

Evangelicals do not receive Catholics as “Christian siblings”. Evangelicals do not receive anybody as “Christian siblings”. They hate everything and everyone including themselves!
I accept everyone in love. But the Catholic Chuch does not accept Mormans Baptism nor Mormans because they do not Accept the Nicene Creed, nor believe in thr Trinity. Per in our RCIA lit.

The following statement is the product of consultation, beginning in September 1992, between Evangelical Protestant and Roman Catholic Christians. Appended to the text is a list of participants in the consultation and of others who have given their support to this declaration.

Introduction

We are Evangelical Protestants and Roman Catholics who have been led through prayer, study, and discussion to common convictions about Christian faith and mission. This statement cannot speak officially for our communities. It does intend to speak responsibly from our communities and to our communities. In this statement we address what we have discovered both about our unity and about our differences. We are aware that our experience reflects the distinctive circumstances and opportunities of Evangelicals and Catholics living together in North America. At the same time, we believe that what we have discovered and resolved is pertinent to the relationship between Evangelicals and Catholics in other parts of the world. We therefore commend this statement to their prayerful consideration…

EVANGELICALS AND CATHOLICS TOGETHER: THE GIFT OF SALVATION

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:16-17)

We give thanks to God that in recent years many Evangelicals and Catholics, ourselves among them, have been able to express a common faith in Christ and so to acknowledge one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. We confess together one God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; we confess Jesus Christ the Incarnate Son of God; we affirm the binding authority of Holy Scripture, God’s inspired Word; and we acknowledge the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds as faithful witnesses to that Word.

The effectiveness of our witness for Christ depends upon the work of the Holy Spirit, who calls and empowers us to confess together the meaning of the salvation promised and accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. Through prayer and study of Holy Scripture, and aided by the Church’s reflection on the sacred text from earliest times, we have found that, notwithstanding some persistent and serious differences, we can together bear witness to the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. To this saving gift we now testify, speaking not for, but from and to, our several communities…

Catholic magisterium aside, is there a specific guideline for what constitutes a ‘sibling in Christ’??

Because if Christian = one who believes in christ, then, I’d say mormons are christian and therefore a sibling of ours, in christ.

but its a catch 22…cuz…they believe in multiple gods. I mean, if you really wanna get into it, they believe in eternal progression, i think its called, which means that you yourself may someday progress into a God, like Christ…and will one day have your own planet, and/or universe, in which you will bring salvation, like Christ did here…if thats the case, many people have evolved into God’s, are evolving into God’s, or will evolve into a God. Thats a lot of Gods. They only focus on the three, the Son the Father and the Holy Ghost, because those are the ones that will bring you salvation, but, somehow they just ignore that if eternal progression IS whats going on…then there God’s all over the place…

isnt that pagan?

There is no official Magisterium position about Mormons and the Mormon gospel. The only thing is that Mormon baptism is not valid, and Mormon converts to Catholicism are to be baptized. Originally, I believe that many Mormons were conditionally baptized (I think the formula is “If you are not yet baptized, I baptize you in the name of the Father…”), which is done when there is doubt that a valid baptism was performed (this is not limited to just Mormon converts). More recently, the position is to baptize all Mormon converts.
Yes that is very true. We had some Morman converts in RCIA and they had to be Baptized.

We believe in baptism by immersion, when the person is old enough to be accountable for his or her own sins (about 8 years, at least) in the Names of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. The problem Catholics have with it is that our understanding of the Trinity (though a LOT closer to theirs than that of many Protestants, as far as I can tell) is different enough that it invalidates the whole idea.

Of course, in one sense we are stricter than the Catholics are in this matter. We don’t simply believe that the Catholic baptism is invalid—we believe that all but baptisms BUT ours are invalid. On the other hand, we don’t baptise for the remission of original sin, either–figuring that Christ already took care of that one, so our refusal to accept the baptism of other Christian churches doesn’t say quite the same thing as does their refusal to accept ours.
Are you posting that historic Protestants and Catholics do not share the same understanding of the Trinity? How can that be if we share the same historic creeds defining and defending the Trinity?

Thanks for you wise and insightful posting! 🙂 Muslims believe in Jesus too. Do you think the New Age Jesus or the Christian Scientist Jesus or the Jehovah Witness Jesus, or the Islamic Jesus is the same Jesus as the One we love and worship together as orthodox Christians? The Mormon Jesus is not the same historic living Jesus that Protestants and Catholics love and worship together.

For my Catholic siblings who are still confused about the thread topic, here is Sacred Scripture to consider:

2 Corinthians 11

Paul and the False Apostles

I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles. Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge; indeed, in every way we have made this plain to you in all things.

Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached God’s gospel to you free of charge? I robbed other churches by accepting support from them in order to serve you. And when I was with you and was in need, I did not burden anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied my need. So I refrained and will refrain from burdening you in any way. As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be silenced in the regions of Achaia. And why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!

And what I do I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

That is very true 2nd. We have a Muslin son-in-law who is very sweet and whom we love. He believes in Jesus but not as a Savior just a prophet. He was educated in England in a Catholic school.

If Islam rejects the death by crucifixion of our Lord Jesus, then Islam nullifies Christ and Him crucified for sinners to bring them near to God. If Christ was not crucified, then He could not be risen… if Christ was not risen… we are still dead in our sins and trespasses… and Christians should be the most pitied all of men.

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.

em…well…I’m not sure WHAT exactly mueslims got going on, I just barely figured out Mormons and that was a major brain, you know what. And I didnt know that they believed in a different Jesus than us? There was more than one?! I thought it was just that they believed he was a prophet, rather than actually the son of God…like the Jewish??

But, even then, I’d still consider them my brethren…because…its like, if we’re right, then they are wrong…but, I’d have to honestly believe that they dont know theyre wrong.

For example. Baby’s born. Baby’s family is mormon. They are raised with these beliefs…

Have you ever read ‘The Allegory of the Cave’ by Plato?? Totally awesome, and short thnk God, but I equate it to the above. If what they know is all they know, its not their fault for not knowing the truth. God, I’m, going in circles but I hope you get my drift…

Like, even if you tell them, hey, were catholic, and this is what we believe and its the truth, if they dont believe it because of what they were raised to believe and continued to live a good and morally sound life, like most other christians do, I think God would still save them…But if, in the afterlife, when confronted with Jesus and/or God or what have you, if in his face you deny Him, well then- thats your choice and you’ll eternally live with the consequences…

But here, on earth–Do we really have all the answers? I dont know…But I wouldnt judge someone based on the religion they were born into…

**dont know if that makes any sense, sometimes my (im going to make up a word) ‘articulate-osity’ lmbo…escapes meh 🙂

Please see post 111 above yours in regards to Muslims who need the historic Jesus Christ. I believe we have the answers here on earth because God has spoken through His divine special revelation we call Sacred Scripture.

So, mueslims believe that Jesus Christ was never crucified? Or do they deny that he existed? Sorry confused…

And whats the deal with them having such a problem with Christians and the western world? I understand this is slightly off topic but one quick reply can answer my questions please 🙂

Charlotte408,
I hope you understand that the Mormons believe that Jesus was indeed the Son of God, in fact perhaps moreso than others because we believe He was the First Born, and thus the rightful Heir from Heavenly Father when He was born on this earth. He was also the literal offspring of Heavenly Father through the conception by the power of the Holy Spirit coming upon Mary. Mormons absolutely do believe Christ was the Son of God, the atoning Savior and Redeemer promised in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament.

I just know what know our son-in-law has told us. He believe Jesus existed, but only as a Prophet not Jesus crucified. We don’t have any problem with him at all, but can’t speak for others.

Muslims believe Jesus was just a prophet inferior to Mohamed and deny that Jesus was crucified.

When Mormons Call

Have you ever answered your front door to see two young men dressed in white shirts and black ties wanting to talk to you about Jesus Christ? They’re part of the legions of well-trained Mormon missionaries who go all over the world spreading the false doctrine of Mormonism. Finally, a handy book has been written just for Catholics who want to know what to say to these polite but misinformed young men. In this brief, easy-to-read handbook, you’ll find everything you need to rebut what the missionaries are trained to say to you. Isaiah Bennett, a former Catholic priest who converted to Mormonism and then reconverted to the Catholic faith, wrote this book. His inside knowledge of Mormonism is indispensable in answering the many errors and contradictions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Evangelicals do not receive Catholics as “Christian siblings”. Evangelicals do not receive anybody as “Christian siblings”. They hate everything and everyone including themselves!
Lets withdraw the fangs.

I’m pretty sure any Christian is happy to show you love and respect. There are plenty of examples of Christ spending time with Jews and Gentiles, showing them the same attention and giving them the love and nuturing they needed. But like the Jews and Gentiles of old, Jesus unashamedly pointed out errors, and he continues to do that today.

So, with your understanding, are people less accountable if they are ignorant of the gospel, and have a better chance to enter Heaven due to their ignorance of the gospel than those who hear the gospel and reject it?
Yes. To whom much is given much is expected.

Do you have a different understanding?
