I agree with the Cardinal regarding there is still much to do to make the church welcoming and I as well wish him luck in this effort.

What would you suggest the Church do to be more welcoming to homosexuals?
 
I’m presuming that no one is recommending the outreach used by John the Baptist, who sometimes called his questioners a “brood of vipers,” i.e., a “bunch of snakes.” But I think that was because he perceived them as asking in bad faith.

According to the report even Cardinal Dolan is not exactly sure how the outreach will work yet. So don’t ask me. The Cardinal did say we have to listen to homosexuals and acknowledge Jesus died on the cross for them as well. So that’s a start and I guess you’ll just have to await like the rest of us to see what the Cardinal comes up with and whether or not it works.

    A start? When did the Church not acknowledge that? I think people our making way to much out of a short comment made in a TV interview.

Well apparently Cardinal Dolan believes the Church needs to start doing a better job of listening or else he wouldn’t have acknowledged the need to do so in a TV interview.

  1. If you engage in a non stop battle to normalize what is not normal every single word matters. Any potential gap will be exploited.

It was a quick comment in a TV interview. I doubt if we hear anymore about it. I have yet to see anyone make a suggestion on how the Church can improve its “outreach” to homosexuals that either is either not something already being done or capitulate to the culture and endorse homosexual marriage .

There is absolutely NOTHING the Church can do to “improve” its outreach to homosexuals that will be enough for our culture other than complete capitulation

This politcally-correct “outreach” is nonsense as far as I am concerned. Where does the good Cardinal get the idea that Catholics are being “anti-anybody”? The only people that are being “anti-anybody” are the anti-Catholic bigots in the Media that do nothing but ridicule Christ’s teaching on Homosexuality and spread their lies through popular culture and the Media. Telling the truth about Homosexuality - that it is in fact an “objectively disordered inclination” (CCC) - will bring nothing but ridicule, derision and hatred from the popular culture.

Cardinal Dolan says that the Church needs to be “more welcoming to the gay and lesbian community”. Ambiguous nonsense. There is no such thing as the “gay and lesbian community.” It only exists in the world of divisive politics, and it actually the homosexual activists that need to be “more welcoming” and less “anti-anybody” towards the Catholic Church. Their is only one Community - the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ - to which we are all called. The Catholic Church is already “welcoming” to homosexuals by telling the Truth regarding homosexuality.

I dont believe a Catholic cardinal has any business doing a Sunday talk show. As we have seen here every word he utters will be parsed, twisted and used to attack the Church.

Ok maybe you didn’t see Cardinal Dolan’s words but I saw Dolan’s suggestion to listen more. I have to presume then he means more listening to homosexuals than is already being done.

Not to what but to who. Cardinal Dolan said listen more to people. And people are human beings created by God. Since he was speaking about outreach to gay and lesbian Catholics, I have to conclude he means listening more to them. But you’re right nothing more may come of it. We’ll have to see where the Cardinal goes with the outreach from here.

He’s not going to go anywhere. it was a throwaway comment on a Sunday talk show.

No I’m sure the Catholic Church knows people were created by God. I was just confused by you when you said “listen to what” instead of “to who”. Since I use “who” instead of what to refer to people.
 
I’m inclined to the ‘throwaway line on a Sunday talk show’ gloss.
As for “listening more,” I think the Church has listened a great deal on this subject—the Church’s documents on homosexual persons exhibit insight, compassion, and clarity.
