From what I remember, the force sent to take in( or take out) Osama would have captured him if it was safe to do so.
It was a little weird that the corpse was dumped at sea, but not all that big of a deal. Of all the things that Obama has ordered in his role of POTUS, Americans in general are pleased enough that Osama was taken down, and give Obama his due credit for the role he had played in bringing that about.
Other than that, Obama’s policy has never been one of America first. He came into office seeing America as the root of much of the unrest in the world, and structured his foreign policy accordingly. His policy was to place the world first, and act in the interest of the world, regardless of what might benefit America the most.
In terms of actual involvement, there will be very little difference between the mechanics of a Trump foreign policy, and that of the last eight years of Obama. The difference is that Trump will chose isolationism out of a bloated nationalism and a belief that the rest of the world does not deserve American beneficence. Obama chose isolationism because of his belief that the world needs to be relieved of American maleficence.
That gives an ironic meaning to the axiom that the more things change, the more things remain the same, doesn’t it?
