But he couldn’t advance much more than that unless those troubled by his presence weren’t so troubled by him to begin with and weren’t so bent on opposing him at every move from the very night of his first inauguration

Now your suggesting something very different than above. And btw all that still avoids the question and your first sentence appears in conflict also. What has he done for race relations, nothing because racism exists is your answer? How does that make sense? So he just isn’t any good at this? He was bad at it??? Its Georges fault?

Why would that surprise you? We don’t believe America today is anywhere near as extreme on the conservative side as Cruz is.
 
So whats Hillaries plan for relationships and unity surely as amazing as she is she has this all laid out?

Seems to me the adults need to speak up more in regards to this actual thinking aside from further polarization that in fact sets us back and damages both sides. And if you live here and think "America is no longer great. " contrary to Hillary of course than imagine what those elsewhere think who look up to you?

No he did not. The only people who think that way are the same “privileged” ones who like to think and tell their children that we now live in a “post racial society” and the proof is that Obama was elected. Nothing could be further from the truth. That is one of the reasons why I am voting for HRC. (Spare me the abortion rhetoric, as I am not a single issue voter.)

What exactly can Ted Cruz or Donald Trump do about race relations? Nobody likes Ted and Donald is crude.

White voters – particularly GOP voters – are all willing to blame President Obama for poor race relations. If you’re looking at polls, the number of people who say that race relations are poor is increasing. But what has Obama done that worsened race relations? What did he fail to do, particularly when one considers the feasibility of his actions, to improve race relations, particularly with GOP majorities in the House and Senate?

Blaming Obama for poor race relations seems absurd to me. I think that the policies of the GOP and the actions of racist Whites in this country have caused race relations to remain poor during the two terms of Obama’s presidency. If anything, having a black President forces us to pay attention to the racism that remains a fact of life in America despite his best efforts.

So your answer is its the white mans fault? And for example what best effort of Obama, thats what we want to see, something tangible. The fact is Lincoln’s road to unity ran through division as did Kennedy, so there really is no excuse and surely things are much different than then, we have a Black President today? Absurd indeed.

Yes, we have a black president, a fact that a lot of white people in certain parts of the country can hardly stand, and they certainly didn’t vote for him.

The majority twice voted for a black man for president. His popularity level was once the great majority of the populace; in the 70s. Some of the remainder have always opposed him for his stand on abortion, tax increases, etc. And of the remainder after that, some are of mixed race or even black or Hispanic. How many “white racists” can there actually be in the face of that?

What precise policies of the GOP and what specific actions of “racist whites” have caused race relations to remain poor?

What parts of the country are those, and what evidence is there that any significant number of people didn’t vote for him just because he’s black? There are lots of non-racist reasons not to vote for Obama.

Re Obama,he pulled the race card over and over anytime he didn’t get his way.He inserted himself into any and every black incident overstepping his bounds,letting his personal baggage get in the way of being a real leader.He could have done so much with the position he was given as the president,instead he chose to be decisive,flame the fires of racism with his abysmal behavior.You cannot refute any of this,no way ,no how.

I don’t have any polls to cite (most people wouldn’t admit to having racist views), but I have no doubt that there is still a lot of racism in this country. It’s just not as blatant as it used to be.

Broadly speaking, discrimination based on race is universal, and anybody who claims he doesn’t is either deluded or lying. Everybody has some element of preconceived notions based on race, ethnicity, gender, age. Some are positive, and some are negative.

So, for example, I might experience anxiety at being approached by a group of black teen males wearing “gangsta” attire, but might experience none being approached by young white, black or Asian men on bicycles wearing ties and carrying satchels suspicious for carrying Mormon tracts. I might experience anxiety upon being approached in the woods by three men who look like they came out of “Deliverance”, and none by being approached by a black man in a suit who has a “State Farm Insurance” pin in his lapel.

My anxieties and expectations are not the real question. The real question is what we do about it. If we treat another fairly as a child of God, then it doesn’t matter whether our initial expectations were lower or higher than the reality.

I know hundreds and hundreds of people, and I doubt I know more than three or four who are actual racists in the sense of actually having ill will toward those of another race.
