States have closed caucuses so it is party members that choose their party’s nominee.

I agree. The point I was making is that Sanders would have had more votes, from independent voters, but they were not allowed to vote due to the closed caucuses.

A poll I saw yesterday had Trump winning IN over Cruz by 15 or something like that. Another had Hillary beating Bernie there but within the margin of error if I’m not mistaken. By 4. Of course I also heard even if Bernie received the superdelegates of all the states he has won, she will still be the nominee. But sounds like you just want Cruz to go on in his race vs Trump for the same reason Bernie says he goes on.

Well I guess in any case the table is set for independents to choose between Hillary and Trump in a brutal election. Unless they don’t vote or vote 3rd party.

Well yes, the election may indeed be brutal, but this may be due, in large part, to the media focusing obsessively on all of the negative aspects of it, and especially anything having to do with Trump. Though I’m a Trump supporter, I don’t think it’s a given that he’ll win the nomination. After all, the GOP doesn’t want him to be the nominee. I really like Patrick Buchanan’s commentary on the situation.

If Trump doesn’t win, it’s not the end of the world for us Trump supporters. What Trump represents, to me, is a move away from GOP politics as usual, which is very much needed.
 
Trump has really jumped the shark now with his reckless allegation that Ted Cruz’s father was involved in the JFK assassination. Not smart; he just further alienated voters he is going to need next fall. Say hello to “President Hillary Clinton”.

Well, 40% of it does. Which is higher than the percentage that wants Cruz.

I just imagine when I’m a great-grandfather telling the little ones “You want to hear about political parties split 3 ways? Well I lived through the election of 2016 before the Dark Times …”

But people will believe. there are some people who believe that Cruz was involved in the Zodiac murders!

Maybe so, but there isn’t much barrier to Sanders supporters voting for Hillary Clinton. Sanders is for income redistribution and abortion on demand. Clinton is for abortion on demand and income redistribution.

The only real fall-off I could see among the Sanders people would be if a significant number of them realize how corrupt Clinton really is and recoil from it.

LOL I didn’t know he’d said that! I can’t say I’m surprised. A Clinton-Trump debate should be very interesting!

Actually he didn’t.

Cruz’ father, an Evangelical preacher, warned from the pulpit that a “biblical” catastrophe would happen to the country if Cruz didn’t win the primary.

National Enquirer had run the story about Cruz’ father being associated with Oswald in the “fair play for Cuba” group. Maybe the story is true and maybe it isn’t, but it’s the story.

In addressing the assertion of “biblical” catastrophe if Trump wins the primary, Trump remarked that saying such a thing is horrible, and said that nobody is saying anything about Cruz’ father’s association with Oswald.

Trump didn’t say Cruz’ father was involved in the JFK assassination.

Trump didn’t say that, of course.

If I were Trump, I’m not even sure I would agree to debate Hillary Clinton. She has been practicing for decades now, and the debate would be full of things like that; blindsiding with falsehoods. Would Trump pay a price for not doing it? Maybe, because people expect it now. But maybe people have had it with the round-the-clock political coverage and might not even miss it.

He might pull it off, saying he wants to talk directly to real people, not to “crooked Hillary” with biased moderators helping her tell lies like they did with Obama.

One needs to remember that Truman defeated the much-favored Dewey not in debates, but by going around the country to every whistle stop and talking directly to the people.
Trump seems most effective when he’s doing essentially the same thing.

It would be strange if Trump’s 40% support in the GOP prevented a contested convention, but Clinton’s 65% support didn’t prevent one on the Democrat side.

If Americans were versed in the issues or cared, you might have a point. Paul Ryan was as versed in the issues as anyone, and the take away from the last VP debate was Biden’s strident demeanor and his teeth.
