This interpretation makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the information. I must have missed that little pearl of wisdom from Jeb. Actually, Rachel Maddow pointed out the other day that some of the other Republican candidates had said things no so different from what Trump said, and only marginally less extreme. She also had an interesting hypothesis regarding why Trump is saying all these outrageous things. Her thinking is that he is itching to be pushed out of the G.O.P. candidacy so that he can run as an Independent. In that way, he can lose with dignity since he doesn’t really want the job of POTUS in the first place. I tend to agree with Rachel on this.
In some ways, he’s like Harold Hill in the Music Man. His GOP run was merely a con, a way to peddle his branded garbage and media ventures, but like Harold Hill, the con took on a life of its own. He’s too good a salesman.
That’s why, even though I’m not a republican and I despise everything he says, I find it impossible not to admire Trump’s schtick. It’s not his fault that people buy into his ****. If a sucker buys the Brooklyn Bridge from some grifter on the street, then I can’t really blame the grifter for the mark’s stupidity.
Don’t hate the playa, hate the game, so to speak.
