Only in the CityDid no one anticipate the immediate association with the Trump/Pence initials? Poor, poor choice, if only for that. I’m afraid there will be a lot of bathroom humor going forward.

All of these are valid points that Pence will have to answer for. And he will be scrutinized like never before. However, I don’t see Pence having much affect at all on the outcome of the election. With Trump’s personal style being what it is, I don’t see how a VP candidate, or anyone else for that matter, being a very good surrogate for him.Democrats plan to attack Pence as a social conservative zealot, out of step with women and LGBT persons. And to draw attention to a law Pence signed last year that drew immediate backlash from everyone from the NCAA to Apple, with some companies canceling planned conferences in the state, impacting the state’s tourism and convention business. Democrats will say Pence prioritized his right-wing social agenda over the health of the state’s economy.
Democrats can argue Pence was also a vocal advocate of shutting down the government if Republicans didn’t get their way.
Next up on Democrat’s hit list are economic issues. They’ll argue that he, like Trump, would cut wages and is not out for working people. They’ll highlight that median household wages in Indiana fell from $53,000 to $46,900 while he was governor.
Opponents will also highlight a number of controversial statements Pence has made. Those include an op-ed he wrote railing against government overreach in anti-smoking legislation, saying “smoking doesn’t kill.”
And Pence’s non-answer to a 2009 question from MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on whether he believes in evolution. “I can’t say,” he replied.

Or it could be they’re just telling you that you’ve made a bad choice.Always a good sign when people with horrendous views on issues to begin with think you’ve made a bad choice on a candidate or issue. Makes me like the Pence pick even more.
Mean-spirited nastiness. And we wonder why people don’t get along.I remember last year when women protested the Governor’s extreme measures on women’s reproductive health. They began calling his office and leaving messages for him about their personal health. It was actually very clever. ‘Periods for Pence.’
Some of the messages they left were funny. I imagine his office was not too happy with the campaign.

Only for people who have their minds in the gutter.Did no one anticipate the immediate association with the Trump/Pence initials? Poor, poor choice, if only for that. I’m afraid there will be a lot of bathroom humor going forward.
CNN is reporting it too:They are anti-Trump there. Not sure it is where I would go there to get reliable inside the Trump campaign news.
The thing is not even all people of faith nor their Christian faith communities believed killing Jews was as evil as Catholics do.The thing is not even all people of faith nor their Christian faith communities believe aborting an embryo is as evil as Catholics do because they might not believe embryonic life equates to an innocent baby or person. Or they respect a woman’s role in the decision process within the confines of her own religious convictions and liberty, along with her own family and doctor. And as an officer in the public arena, the current VP seems to get that he doesn’t represent only the Americans of his own personal faith and beliefs. But we will never agree on this so I shall allow you the last word if you so choose.
I have concerns when anyone leaves the Catholic Church. However, I would much rather vote for a Catholic who has left the Church, yet will defend the life of unborn babies than someone who hasn’t left the Church, but supports the killing of these innocent lives.
Nope, I guess it means changing your definition of evil to virtue if enough people listen to Satan whispering in their ear. At least that’s what some hold as the solution to a pluralistic society; leave your personal opinions at the door. :nope:I get the job, I don’t think you understand the meaning of political. Holding a political office does not mean you should close your eyes to evil.
Nope, didn’t catch it, but likely because I left sophomoric humor behind when I became an adult.Did no one anticipate the immediate association with the Trump/Pence initials? Poor, poor choice, if only for that. I’m afraid there will be a lot of bathroom humor going forward.
So important that he supports abortion and gay so called marriage.I had no idea Pence was Catholic and left. On the other hand, VP Biden as I understand it attends Mass regularly and Catholicism is a very important part of Biden’s life. So it must be political.
I know. Kind of like saying that if slavery were still a debated policy and the Catholic Church were the primary voice against it, Catholic politicians would have to be careful not to push their anti-slavery views. That would be imposing religion on non-Catholics.The thing is not even all people of faith nor their Christian faith communities believed killing Jews was as evil as Catholics do.
Not nastiness at all. The women who participated in ‘Periods for Pence’ were making an extremely strong point. Pence wanted to control women’s periods, their pregnancies, their miscarriages, their abortions, their giving birth. Well, this is what happens when you seek to regulate all those things - you get push back.Mean-spirited nastiness. And we wonder why people don’t get along.![]()
A part of me can’t help but be surprised that Newt didn’t get picked, considering how much he has gone to bat for Trump in these last few months. You are downplaying the positives of each, although Flynn is not a good choice overall because of his position on abortion. Gov Pence is a strong choice. Newt Gingrich achieved a lot as speaker of the House, including bipartisan work, and is one of the complaints with Congress that they lack a lot of bipartisanship, is it not?
I guess we have different standards of civility. Not nastiness at all.
I think most women (and men) know what causes pregnancy. The women who participated in ‘Periods for Pence’ were making an extremely strong point. Pence wanted to control women’s periods, their pregnancies, their miscarriages, their abortions, their giving birth. Well, this is what happens when you seek to regulate all those things - you get push back.
Isn’t that a lot like saying that people who opposed slavery wanted to regulate others’ business, their households, and the economy? Not nastiness at all.
