Christie might not be a bad choice, but that’s not to say he would be a good choice either. I find it doubtful that any Republicans of stature would want to be Trump’s running mate, as the downsides vastly outweigh any potential upsides.

I suspect Trump will be forced to pick a flawed but known candidate, such as Christie or Gingrich, or a relative unknown who is just happy for the exposure.
In any case, I hope Trump picks someone competent. Just in case he should be elected, he’ll need the advice.

For me its Newt, imo he’s been consistent, clear, calm and on point. Good balance for Trump.

Gingrich sounds like a good choice. I liked him more than the other candidates when he ran, but I don’t think I was even in high school at that time

Still can’t stand Trump, though.

Gingrich, Christie are the leading candidates to be Trump’s running mate

By Robert Costa and Karen Tumulty June 30 at 7:49 PM

Donald Trump’s campaign has begun formally vetting possible running mates, with former House speaker Newt Gingrich emerging as the leading candidate, followed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. But there are more than a half dozen others being discussed as possibilities, according to several people with knowledge of the process.

Given Trump’s unpredictability, campaign associates caution that the presumptive Republican nominee could still shake up his shortlist. But with little more than two weeks before the start of the Republican National Convention, Gingrich and Christie have been asked to submit documents and are being cast as favorites for the post inside the campaign. Gingrich in particular is the beneficiary of a drumbeat of support from Trump confidants such as Ben Carson.

A number of senators — including Jeff Sessions (Ala.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.) — are also being reviewed as viable picks, although the extent to which they are being vetted is unclear. A longer shot on Trump’s radar is Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, a heavyweight on the right who could bolster Trump’s tepid support among some conservative activists.

But Pence is immersed in his reelection race and Trump is said to want a more electric politician at his side rather than a low-profile figure. Most of his primary rivals are reluctant to sign on, and tensions with Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) remain raw.

Gingrich has a lot of baggage - I never particularly liked him back in the Clinton days. I would choose Christie who, ironically, was my first choice for the GOP 2016 nominee, even above Rubio. Christie’s politics were closer to mine than any other GOP candidate in the race. But how much influence would Christie have over Trump on issues? He could have quite a bit, especially over time, but he does seem to be a bit of a yes man at this point. I also worry about the “two bullies from the Northeast” visual. If Warren runs with Clinton, that would be great wouldn’t it - I give it to Trump and Christie, very slight edge. A little nauseating frankly.

I further worry about this tiny little Trump circle - they could meet in a phone booth. The absence of Kasich, Cruz, Rubio, Ryan, et al. from the conversation at least if not the VP/cabinet list is quite damning. Trump has to play nice with the party, then take on Clinton. He is putting the fighting Clinton cart before the unifying the GOP horse. Perhaps he thinks they will come to him and maybe they will, but he should be carving out common ground - putting a lot of visible effort into that.

But then this is an unpredictable election cycle, Trump/Christie could win. I am afraid to say they wouldn’t have a fairly decent chance just to bluster themselves right into the White House.

Roman Catholic Gingrich would be an excellent choice. His vast expertise in domestic and international politics is a perfect complement to Trump’s casual style.
Mr. Christie is also a practicing Catholic. However, Mr. Gingrich would be a much better choice for VP. He is the Washington insider that Trump is looking for and he is the perfect compliment to Trump’s sometimes outlandish style.

I particularly agree with “A little nauseating frankly.”

I haven’t had a shred of respect for him since he shamelessly flirted with my then-19-year-old daughter when she was a Congressional intern. Ick.

I was asked to do a survey on VP choices yesterday, but I was not told who sponsored the survey. Republican choices were Gingrich, Sessions, Pence, and Christie. There was no mention of Rubio or Ryan. Unless Trump picks Lucifer as his running mate, none of the choices would swing my vote to Mrs Clinton. Besides, Lucifer votes a straight “D” ticket.

Lucifer is not registered to vote. No proof of citizenship to even be able to register in the first place. Nevermind a photo ID. Neither is God for that matter.

Why do you think the Democrats consistently oppose photo ID laws?

Why do you think the Democrats consistently oppose photo ID laws?
One reason is because they can make it more difficult for people who had already proven citizenship when they registered to vote, to then exercise their right to vote.

Lucifer would support the Communist Party USA if he could.

In today’s New York Post:
Donald Trump had a momentary case of the heebie-jeebies over hijabs.
The presumptive GOP nominee drew a veil over a question from a woman at a New Hampshire rally on Thursday who said she wanted to replace hijab-wearing TSA passenger screeners with military retirees.
“Why aren’t we putting our retiree, our military retirees on that border or in TSA, get rid of all these ‘hibby-jobbies’ they wear at TSA — I’ve seen them myself?” Cathy Chevalier of Hudson, N.H., asked The Donald, referring to the head coverings some Muslim women wear.
Trump, hemming and hawing, replied: “OK, you know, and we are looking at that, and we are looking at that, we’re looking at a lot of things.”
It was not clear if he was referring to hiring more military retirees or getting rid of TSA Muslim employees who wear the hijab.

It’s good to know that Trump’s been looking into this important issue of Muslim hijab wearing TSA workers. I can tell that he’s leaving no stone unturned.

Wasn’t that before he was Catholic, though?
