The lesson for democrats is stop demonizing and smugly dismissing those who disagree with them and start engaging in conversation.
Thank you. This is the takeaway point that I think we should all take to heart, regardless of political party.

All praise and glory to Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother.

Months ago I felt that the Lord was telling me that Trump would win, however, being a human I would at times worry that it was just my own wishes.

As I have said in other posts, that God has used sinners (we all are) as His instrument to bring glory to Him. Just as he used Paul/Saul who killed Christians, he became an apostle and saint.

I believe Trump will do everything he promised, if it is possible. He is not Obama who just did what he wanted without Congress or any support and some felt he was a dictator.

As Christians we must give Trump the time and support to bring back the U.S. I used to know.

I saw so much hatred on CAF from some posters and it is time now to stop and let us all wake up and remember we all have a Day when we will stand in judgment. I too need to follow what I say and show more love and understanding and be less judgmental towards others.

God Bless

Bernadette

A lot of people are feeling the same way. It’s being expressed by Muslims, Hispanics, women, and gay people. I care more about the feelings of those that are being marginalized than those who voted for one of the worst picks for president in history. This is an international embarrassment. I think your hurt feelings will heal just fine, our country on the other hand 🤷
Their candidate didn’t win makes them marginalized now? Trump isn’t in office yet, hasn’t enacted any laws and as such has not actually marginalized anyone.

I’m so glad and relieved to see that US Senate and House map so red. I hope that the new government sticks to their Republican Platform and move heaven and earth to revoke the gay marriage legalization, ban gender neutral bathrooms in schools, and a serious job on controlling accessibility of pornography since Trump signed that letter. And make abortion illegal.

I bet HRC rues the day she thought ‘deplorables’ was such a clever descriptor!

He said that Mexicans are rapists (well in his defense he assumes some are good people ), he wants to bar Muslims from coming into our country, he admitted to sexual assault against women more than once, he wants to reverse the same sex marriage ruling. These are the actions that make people feel marginalized. They are also his words and not those of the media.

He could possibly lose the popular vote, which would make him the first “populist” candidate in history to lose the popular vote. .
He is not a popular candidate. I would not be surprised in the least if he enters office with the lowest approval rating of any candidate. Now will he be able to work with Congress? Who knows? I do think the honeymoon is the shortest in a shotgun wedding. I do believe there will be some good come of his presidency, but then I saw some good in Obama. Hillary, not so much, and I guess I will not get the opportunity to evaluate her as president, thanks be to God.

And Dems promote the murder of children in their mothers womb, are against religious liberty, freedom of conscience and want nuns and Catholics hospitals to pay for and perform abortions. But those are marginalizing people, right?

He said there are rapists and murders among the people that come here illegally. That is an objective fact.
he wants to bar Muslims from coming into our country,
He called for a temporary ban, not on all Muslims, only those coming from countries with terrorist ties, until we have a better way to vet them.
he admitted to sexual assault against women more than once,
not going to argue that one.
he wants to reverse the same sex marriage ruling.
Good!!!

The thing is that HRC’s words and actions made other people feel marginalized. Women, Catholics, working class Americans and the military did not feel she could support their interests. No candidate is going to please everyone. That’s why we vote.

I’m certainly no Trump apologist. I didn’t vote for him or Clinton. And I don’t disagree with your assessment about him being a loose cannon with tendencies to bully people around. But thinking he will start a war on a whim is a bridge too far, I think.

I think there is a difference between pushing people around in the board room or the campaign trail versus a battlefield. I certainly hope so at least. But even so, our government has checks and balances. I can’t imagine him making such volatile decisions based on ego and not having someone, somewhere along the line, bring him back to reality.
Well, we all have our own “reality” in a sense, and you and I normally rely on others to bring us back to a more objective state. However, Trump by admission and action does not listen to people around him, he relies on his own gut, his own assessment, and when it comes to moral choices he does not have a good track record - at least according to the media I have been exposed to - (which I only warily accept!).

Frankly, at this point I don’t trust him or Clinton, and with either one I would like to have the assurance that decisions are made by non-coerced committee rather than the loose cannon alone. I want someone to be able to have some say over his decisions, to bring him back in line if necessary.

I wish we could just start over with a new batch of candidates… Trump would make a great trade-negotiator-in-chief!

I agree with you on abortion, it is a human rights issue. It’s why I’m not a Dem. I disagree with you on the rest, I’ve yet to see a Catholic doctor in America be forced to perform an abortion. The Catholic hospitals win those court battles.

You’re appeals to religious liberty fall flat when you voted for a man that wants to keep an entire religion out of the U.S.

People feel the way they will feel and many feel betrayed. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. We have Trumps own words to use against him. We didn’t invent anything, he just can’t keep his mouth shut.

Indeed.
I voted for life.
And trump won the white house.
AND Republicans hold the house.
AND Republicans hold the Senate.

And we could have a pro life supreme Court.

I expect to see something done.
I voted straight pro-life too. However, the only issue is that the Ginsburg & Breyer would have most likely retired under a Hillary administration. But I don’t think they will under Trump, they will most likely stay in office until they die, get too sick, or another Democrat is elected President.

Kennedy on the other hand could still retire.

That’s how his statements and actions have been represented, without a lot of accuracy.

But when it comes to “marginalization” I, for one, felt pretty “marginalized” when I learned there was an HHS Mandate that forces me to pay for contraceptives and abortifacients. I felt pretty marginalized when Obama sued the Little Sisters of the Poor. I felt marginalized when I learned there were organizations set up by the Dem party to institute a “Catholic Spring” to combat my “backward”, “medieval” and “authoritarian” Church. I even felt marginalized when Obama sued the Lutheran Church.

Since it’s extremely doubtful Trump will attack the Catholic Church, I, for one, feel a major sense of relief.

Hey RR! Where were you last night? As much energy and effort you’ve put into the election on these forums I thought you’d be keeping vigil here with us. Anyways, you were missed. And I think you would have been proud of my cheering for Trump. 😉

You think that anything President Obama has done has modified Iran’s stance toward the US?
al-monitor.com/pulse/originals/2016/07/iran-new-poll-disappointment-nuclear-deal-jcpoa.html

It depends on what you mean by “what Obama has done”. If we are going to blame continued sanctions on him then yes, toward the positive when the deal was first signed and toward the negative when we reneged. My sense is that continued sanctions run against the spirit of the deal, and are not supported by our president. Obama tried, but his powers are limited.

Frankly, I was in favor of getting rid of all the pretenses and making Netanyahu our president. It would be more honest.

After reading the article, I am thinking that deal was never enacted anyway, so it makes no difference whether or not he gets rid of it. It appears that our nation, as a world player, cannot be trusted any more than Iran.

Whew, I have the urge to check those European real estate listings again… 😉

And so I did. Feedback, anyone?
[With Congress and the Presidency soon to be under Republican control, as well as a pending opportunity to nominate a Supreme Court Justice, all without obstruction by the Democrats, this is perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to pass such legislation.]
Given that abortion is protected by a Supreme Court ruling, there is no more possibility of legislatively banning abortion than there is of banning free speech. As for not being able to obstruct Republican plans, this is inaccurate as well. So long as either party holds 41 seats in the Senate that party can use a filibuster to prevent any piece of legislation from being voted on. Democrats have used that approach in the past to prevent Republican nominees for SCOTUS from being confirmed. The fact that one party controls both houses of congress and the presidency does not mean the other party is powerless.
