The Dems lost all power. Not sure what else to call that except a profound rejection of their liberal policies.
Also, the working class voters who gave Trump the victory - ostensibly the ‘base’ of the Democratic party - rejected that party. And these are people who voted for Obama for some reason.

That she alienated independents enough that they voted for Trump shows how flawed of a candidate she was. Plus the corruption of Dem primary politics didn’t help them.
The fact that she couldn’t put Bernie Sanders away until the end of the primaries, is also telling.

Well…I voted for DT…but I still don’t trust him…now we have a president with an ego as wide as the grand canyon with his hand on the nuclear button…and Russia has an equally egotistical president with his hand on the nuclear button…if that isn’t a recipe for disaster…maybe in four years IF Roe v Wade has been overturned…and IF this country has been reunited…and IF freedom of religion can be guaranteed…and IF the world is a safer place then maybe I might see the hand of God in all of this…until then I’ll still doubt whether I’ve helped elect a wolf in sheeps clothing
Well, the clothing is surely wolf. The inside sheep is what is to be found. I’m worried about the nuclear button too.

If there is nuclear war, though, Trumps stance toward Russia would have to turn sour. Trump has such a short fuse, I can see it happening. Given the power of those who hate Russia, I can see it happen that they would manipulate circumstances in a way that leads to a large divide in what started out as a new relationship, making our situation with Russia worse than it is today.

How are we going to keep Trump in control? I agree with all of his trade ideas, and I wish he would also make it so that corporations have to pay their taxes here, not in the Caymans or Ireland, etc. He could lower the corporate tax rate, but require that all business done in the U.S. is taxed here. It would help balance the budget, and make Wall Street pay their fair share, right? And while we are at balancing the budget, why on Earth do we need more military might than we already have? Lots of money could be saved there.

These data does not include the 4B we give to Egypt to keep them at peace with Israel, and other such deals.:

Note also the portion of our budget spent on military expenditures.

This election has taught me something that is very hard to bear. I am surrounded by people who hate me. People who want me dead…who wish that I would just disappear. I am hated for my gender. My colleagues is hated for their sexual orientation. My friends are hated for their race. I am hated for being educated.
It’s really hard to take. My human response it to hate those who wish me and my loved ones harm. How am I to love my enemies? The ones who are so gleeful in their hatred here on this very thread?
This is an astonishingly insulting and libelous statement. It is grossly uncharitable. No one on this thread has expressed glee in hatred and it’s a lie to say they are.

You need to apologize for your comment.

And stop getting your news from the leftist media. I didn’t vote for Trump, but he and his supporters aren’t evil or rounding up groups of people on traincars.

They didn’t lose all power, they already didn’t have the house or senate. They just didn’t win it back.

The fact that she couldn’t put Bernie Sanders away until the end of the primaries, is also telling.
Exactly. Sanders huge support even in the face of collusion against him by his own party leaders shows that this wasn’t about Liberals vs Conservatives but about a revolt against the establishment in the same way the Tea Party was just on the other side. People are deluding themselves if they think it’s all about conservative vs liberal. Heck, the Republican party sure wasn’t pro Trump for the same reason. And there are now a lot of independents that supported Trump that don’t line up lockstep with conservatives that are going to their voice heard in the Republican party.

If they didn’t lose all power, what power do they have? Filibuster?

What treaty with Iran? Are you referring to the nuclear deal that gave them 1.5 billion plus 400 million of that in cash for ransom? That deal? I hope and pray that’s one of the first things to go!!!
You are praying for more enmity in the world?

Are you a little worried about nuclear war? If not, why not? I would feel safer if he made Bernie Sanders our Secty of State!
No more than before.

Honestly, I paid no more heed to all the hulabaloo about the prospect of Trump having his “finger on the nuclear button” than I did to those who freaked out about Palin being “a heartbeat from the presidency” (and McCain is still alive and kicking 8 years later). It’s alarmism. It’s an attempt to motivate people against a particular candidate based on fear.

Do we really imagine that Trump will have a bad day, get miffed at some other country, and then launch a nuclear strike out of spite? Really? I mean, there is plenty to criticize Trump over, and plenty of things to be concerned about, but this is not one of them.

Something about presidential elections brings out the flair for the melodramatic. All these people are talking about moving to Canada, too. 8 years ago, it was the conservatives saying they’d leave the country if Obama was elected. I never heard anyone actually follow through on that threat. I don’t imagine many people on the other side of the aisle will do so this time around.

Not that Trump doesn’t sort of invite such dramatic responses upon himself. He does. It just seems like such a distraction from the issues that can realistically be addressed.

A lot of people are feeling the same way. It’s being expressed by Muslims, Hispanics, women, and gay people. I care more about the feelings of those that are being marginalized than those who voted for one of the worst picks for president in history. This is an international embarrassment. I think your hurt feelings will heal just fine, our country on the other hand 🤷

Indeed,we took our Country back,no guns,no violence.Just our right to vote!Got it done!
God has blessed the USA let us not squander His goodwill 🙏
Amen

Our Lady the Immaculate Conception did not let us down.
Prayers do get answered.

I want to believe you, but he just seems so reactive, with such a short fuse, and does not take responsibility for his actions. I can see him bullying some nation with a nuclear threat, and then if things go wrong he has to follow up his threat. People who sue others at that drop of a hat (like Trump) are used to solving problems by force or coercion. This is not the way of the Gospel.

Please give me evidence of a person who is capable of forgiving and showing compassion, I’m all ears! I am being earnest about this, Joe, I am not a Clinton supporter and never have been, but this guy really seems like a loose cannon. And as shown on this thread, there are plenty of others too. I need more than assurances, I need evidence that this man can resolve situations without bullying.

War is an issue that can realistically be addressed.

Canada - I have no connections. But I did look at Swiss real estate on the web last night! 🙂

I find it very sad that there are people like yourself who genuinely feel this way (and I know there are plenty). This is a sad reflection on how much we as a culture have bought into the “us vs. them” media narrative.

By and large, people did not vote for Trump because they hate women or minorities or gay people and certainly not because they want such people dead.

Would it be accurate to say that people who voted for Clinton did it because they hate babies and relish the thought of them being torn limb from limb in their mother’s womb? Of course not.

We are not going to come any closer to understanding those we disagree with if we continue to characterize them as the “other” who wants to see us suffer and die.

I know emotions run high at times like this.

You took the exact opposite of the correct lesson from the results. There have been no hateful comments posted here and perhaps you might understand that some people who voted for Trump feel hated. I’m hated because of my religion–called backwards and medieval by Podesta. Liberal pundits say anybody who opposes SSM is homophobic–I’m not one bit homophobic but I’ve read several studies posted by sociologists who illustrate the value of religion and the disparate outcomes of children raised in homes with married biological parents versus other households. I’ve read the study published by Johns Hopkins that makes a strong case that the compassionate way to treat gender dysphoria is not surgery but through psychology and, in several cases, simple time. That study documents a suicide rate of 40% before “transition”, 20% in the first five years following and back to 40% after five years. Is that not screaming out for something more than surgery?

Do you at all understand the problems associated with trying to label all who disagree with you as racists, homophobic, transphobic, hateful people? This is the absolute definition of thought policing and it’s the most disingenuous and disgusting way to stifle dissent and conversation. And worse than all of that, it’s path toward political and relativistic dictatorship.

The lesson for democrats is stop demonizing and smugly dismissing those who disagree with them and start engaging in conversation.

Think of this another way: did Donald Trump ever refer to people with SSM, gender dysphoria, blacks, etc. as “deplorables”? Did Hillary Clinton and her staff imply that people of faith are medieval and deplorable? People who believe in the second amendment? People who support traditional marriage? Did she talk about legal pressure to force people to comply with her agenda, to change their beliefs?

I’m certainly no Trump apologist. I didn’t vote for him or Clinton. And I don’t disagree with your assessment about him being a loose cannon with tendencies to bully people around. But thinking he will start a war on a whim is a bridge too far, I think.

I think there is a difference between pushing people around in the board room or the campaign trail versus a battlefield. I certainly hope so at least. But even so, our government has checks and balances. I can’t imagine him making such volatile decisions based on ego and not having someone, somewhere along the line, bring him back to reality.

Post WWll, we’ve had two presidents who were not career politicians -Eisenhower and Reagan, and, in that order, they are by far the best of the lot…I’m not saying that Trump has that potential, but I will say give him a chance…given the condition of this nation, and that of the world in general, IF he surrounds himself with competent people, and heeds their advice, he could accomplish a lot…
