The story of the “son/sun” dying on the “cross” (part of a constellation) is WAY older than the bible, like Epic of Gilgamesh old… speaking of the flood!
Plus, Easter actually celebrates the rebirth of the sun after the winter!
Hooray for pagan holidays that the masses wouldn’t do without.
That’s why easter was added to Christianity, to placate the masses.

Anyways, contradicting the bible is fun, but not an effective method of fighting.
Instead, take power away from the bible before you even give it credence.
For example, I was ambushed by a couple of mormons one day on a walk.
They kept rambling about the love of jesus christ, the lord almighty… blah blah blah.

Using Socratic logic, I asked “Who built your church?”
“Who taught you about god?”
“What do you know of that god actually built?”
The point that I made was that it was the greatest heresy to learn about god from other humans.
According to them, god made the earth, not the church, and not the bible, and so it would be best to learn about god from the earth itself.

I brought up another good point on another forum:
“Where was god when the tsunamis hit?”
“Where was god when … (anything) happened?”
The answer was, of course, there, god doesn’t care about you, or your family, or your love for him.
God just is, and get on with it.

The bigger problem is that most people are too afraid and too weak to even question.
Religion is too big and too powerful to fight by saying “no, you’re wrong”.
It will have to be fought in degrees of victory.
We’ve already seen the start, where power is being taken from the church.
It still has WAY too much, because WAY too many people go, but at least there is supposedly a separation of church and state.

Where did you learn all this?

Dude!? Your point would be, what, again?

Do you feel a need to actually be ANTI-religion?

Why would that be a good thing, to rid the world of religion?

Don’t you realize atheism is a religion?

Why (and how) are you fighting against your own religion, religiously?

Atheists are in way over their heads!

An atheist is only successful in their own mind.

You will never be able to have this “victory” you speak of.

People are Christians because they experience God and know God. They have a relationship with God.

You would have an easier time trying to convince us that we have no family lineage and our mom and dad are the beginning of our family.

Do not get me wrong…I respect your views…I can sympathize…I used to share them.

Please do not be so assuming in your power to bring down religion.

God ain’t goin’ no where! (Bad grammar is fun!)

Well, i can certainly tell that YOU aren’t Catholic… and probably never have been…

That’s undoubtedly not your fault, however…

I can’t prove anything i believe in to someone who… well, won’t accept the “evidence” i have… You would argue with me about that evidence… You would say it is not evidence (and/or a lot of other things…)…

I have studied world history and Church history… I have read the New Testament several times through, been to thousands of Masses in my life… been in Christ’s Real Presence…

All i can say is that i believe in the Holy Roman Catholic Church. I have lived a long period of time outside her doors and i have lived approximately 10 years inside… Inside is infinitely better…

I pity those who do not know what i know…

God bless you…

OP said on another thread that he was raised a Catholic. In fact he said this:
have been raised a catholic but over time I have realized many things. The catholic church has been nothing but corrupt since day one(not quite literally). For hundreds of years Catholics oppressed many peasants and were the rich and educated. No one contradicted the church because most could not read or right and the church was to powerful much like a tyranny. The catholic church was the only place in Europe to keep information so they could corrupt things to any extent. The catholic church was also adopted by Romans for the reason to keep a power control over there people who where losing there faith in old gods exp.Zeus,Mars, and such
One wonders where somebody who obviously wants to present himself as free and liberal actually read this guff. It’s presented as though it had been literally taken off a cheap web site; a plethora of vague ‘assertions’ with absolutely no facts, no sources, no ‘reasoning’, not even the barest minimum of ‘reasoning from point A to point B’ to explain how each ‘assertion’ relates to the one before or after. It’s pathetic, it’s sophomoric.

I’ll address the question of where God was when the tsunamis hit.

He was in the next wave. (The wave of love, help, and compassion that went to that area of the world after the first wave hit.)

Non-believers always look for the bad to blame on God. Sounds like a jealous child not feeling the love of the Father. Don’t feel left out. He believes in you even if you don’t believe in him right now. If He wants you, He will get you. You have the choice only because He gave it to you. He also has more patience than you will ever know.

Think about that for a while.

My friend…I’m not offended in the least. Nothing you said is “new”, and really isn’t original. I have friends, and even a brother who professes to be an atheist… Nothing unique or novel about what you posted. You aren’t the first and more than likely…not the last.

Belief in God…is not about being able to touch, smell or taste something finite…its about “faith”…but you already know that.😃

I had friends and fellow soldiers in Vietnam…who said they were “atheists”…but they proved the old maxim: There is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole… 😛 😃 There were a number of times when we were attacked, or being shelled by the bad guys, and it was amazing some of the deals they made with God…

Peace!!

quote= OneNow1= Your heart is not divided, so hope still remains !

" And the Psalmist says: “I hate men of divided heart” (119:113), those who hesitate between faithfulness and unfaithfulness to God.

Peace, And God bless. OneNow1

Genesis 1:28:
God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

The story of the “son/sun” dying on the “cross” (part of a constellation) is WAY older than the bible, like Epic of Gilgamesh old… speaking of the flood!

**This is so unconvincing as an argument, that it’s not even funny. It does not follow that because X is older than Y, X is either more valuable, or less. **

**The Gilgamesh Epic as a poem in 11 tablets seems to go back to about 1500 BC. Which “son/sun” dying on a cross or constellation had you in mind ? None is mentioned in the GE, FWIW. **
Plus, Easter actually celebrates the rebirth of the sun after the winter!

**Maybe so, originally - it does not matter whether it did or not, because that is not what it means in Christianity. And its Christian significance is what matters for Christians. Why should that be a threat ? I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous. The Christian faith is not harmed in the slightest by the solidly-established fact that there are genuine similarities to this or that part of it in other cultures. As C. S. Lewis points out in his book “Miracles”, “the Origin of all things cannot begin to be, in the vulgar sense, “original””. Jesus is like Dionysus in some ways, Adonis in others, Horus in others, Quetzalcoatl in others, Heracles in others, & so on. **

**Why not ? He is the Reality, they are the shadows. As “the Lord of Glory” in Whom all creation “holds together”, He “upholds all things by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1), so it is to be expected that He should be not wholly unlike these dim & incomplete & wispy ghosts. He cannot be entirely unlike what is not entirely unlike Him; which could not so much as exist, but for His Will. You’re too late anyway - the Fathers were well aware that Heracles had ascended to heaven; so we Christians have no business to be surprised when this issue is raised. Your “news” is 1800 years old. **
Hooray for pagan holidays that the masses wouldn’t do without.
That’s why easter was added to Christianity, to placate the masses.

No: it was developed so as to mark the victory of the Risen Christ over death & sin & the devil. Every Sunday is a “little Easter”. The Paschal feast itself is the triumphant fulfilment of the Sufferings & Death of Christ, the decisive Act of God by which He re-creates the fallen universe. So atheism has no future; it is doomed, & was doomed the moment Jesus died on the **Cross. It would be far better to surrender to Him while you still can :). **

**BTW, the paganism so much applauded here is safe to praise only because atheism is living on Christian resources from 2,000 years of Christianity. If paganism returned in full, life would be highly unpleasant for anyone not of perfect health in mind & body. As we are seeing already. **

Now please don’t be “offeneded” but everything you said has all the indications of a lack of maturity.

the real title of this thread should be:

dont read cause I cant spell offended.

Does this guy think we havent seen these arguments. Oh my gosh!!! How could a loving God allow bad things to happen??? That so contradicts his nature. Oh my gosh!!! My faith is gone.

Psh… give me a break

LOL! I guess hope, or in the OP’s case, dishope, springs eterna.

I’ll address the question of where God was when the tsunamis hit.

Think about that for a while.
Yes…good advice. Also (for the OP). read up on something called “Physical Evil” in the Catechism.
