No. That is one of the signs of punctuated equilibrium. A small population evolves in a small area to form a new species and then stays the same for a long time while it spreads out over a larger area, like humans or whales/dolphins. Unless you are looking in the right place and at the right time horizon you will not find the transitional fossils.I guess he had to scrap that whole idea of punctuated equilibrium .
I thought TWF said, “in our lifetime”. The first article says:De_Maria:![]()
Various islands have examples, such as: Aleixandre et al (2013) Speciation on Oceanic Islands: Rapid Adaptive Divergence vs. Cryptic Speciation in a Guadalupe Island Songbird (Aves: Junco). We have? Which? …
IIRC there are other examples among lizards on the Dalmatian islands. Islands are often a way to isolate populations so they cannot physically interbreed, so they can evolve in different directions without exchanging genetic material.

Is there something I’m missing? We found high mtDNA divergence of the island lineage with respect to both continental J. hyemalis and J. phaeonotus, representing a history of isolation of about 600,000 years.
But based on the fossils it looks more equine-like, which would explain how it took on the form of a horse to subsequent generations of people who had never actually seen it but had only heard of it from stories passed down. In this area of the world, these people would have never seen a rhino, so they couldn’t have compared it to one anyway. If you read the source provided, there is a suggestion that it was a type of rhino. It wouldn’t look like a rhino today, for a multitude of reasons, one being that rhinos today live in Africa and this previous rhino lived in Siberia.
And then of course Eve didn’t even come from Adam… she’s the offspring of animals. The same way He held them responsible in the Genesis narrative. Upon receiving the gift of an immortal soul, they communed with God and knew His will.
