We have not begun using the revised translation yet, but we have been receiving instruction weekly on the parts that are going to change. We will begin using the new translation this year at Advent.
This past Sunday the woman who leads the congregation in the hymns and responsorial psalm (can’t rightly call her the Cantor, and I don’t know if she has an official title!) was going over the latest piece of instruction and I could not help but smile broadly when she explained. This Sunday was the instruction on how the Lamb of God was to be sung. She said that we use the Mass of Creation and the name Jesus is not supposed to be at the beginning of the Lamb of God. She said, “We’ve always sung it that way, but it was just, well, WRONG. From now on we will sing it correctly.” I tell you, I almost let out a loud “Hallelujah!” at that point. It was the first time since my return to the Church that I had heard ANYONE flat out state that something we were doing was just plain wrong! Usually, when the Bishop mandates a change, it is just instituted with a statement along the lines of, “This is what the Bishop wants, so we are doing it.” Of course, when the Bishop instructed the priests of the diocese to stop doing something, it was because it was… WRONG!
