Not for nothing, but reading here today would give you the same impression of some Catholics. Now I know that a lot of it is coming from a place of disappointment, but there are still posters calling other Americans evil, selfish, greedy, lazy…all because they voted for the “wrong” person.
You said it Seeker.

The truth is, we have lost the nation. The question is, “can we restore it, or not?”
Lost it? Where? How? Because one human being was elected that some people do not support? I suggest listening again to Romney’s concession speech.

Is anyone willing to try or is it just easier to label the rest of the nation as somehow lesser because their life experience has led them to different conclusions?

Hey simple soul, nobody’s keeping you from following your own advice.
Your right that is why I am going…and praying for you all as you cooperate with your “ideas.” It is no wonder why we can not get anything done it congress. Look at who is electing them all…they really do represent the people well!

Can you stop with the smug, juvenile remarks today? We are in for a four-year hangover for you guys doing something that felt great in the moment, Dude. 😦 Rob
Excuse me? Estesbob said there was about only one election result in his state that he agreed with. But he did have good EC numbers predicted. I understood him to be basing them on the electorate he expected. It just turned out the electorate was more similar to 2008.

Almost exactly the same proportion as the general population. Surprise! NOT
This is why my household is reconsidering how our charitable donations are allocated. I’m not sure this makes sense but if I consider the highly populated Catholic area I live…and the voting results…
Stricter and more careful reviews of ‘helpful’ measures must be applied.

We have lost it to immorality, to a culture of death, to a culture of depravity.
I disagree that we have lost anything…Why must every debate be so dramatic? How can people of a different persuasion unite with you to build a better country if you start from the point of “we” have lost the country? There are millions of people today who don’t believe they have lost anything - and there is no basis to assume that they all are depraved or in love with the “culture of death”. Sheesh, sometimes I wish for a time machine to take people back in history: the Roman Empire, the Babylonian exile…Nobody loses with God at their side.

I won’t go that far, because I don’t think “you Catholics” ever had the nation. Catholics are at tops on paper about 25% of the population, but only about 20% of them actually manage to go to mass weekly. And they have voted and behaved almost identically to the general population for more than 50 years. You cannot differentiate between Catholics and non-Catholics on the street, in the workplace or at the doctor’s office in almost every case. Catholics are inconsequential in politics and the Democrats know that. They take Catholics for granted and it’s worked. The Church was double-crossed last year–stabbed in the back–and they got away with it in broad daylight. So much for “having the nation.” I’ve thought for years that Catholics have illusions of grandeur on this subject of being the great American institution and this election is just one more data point for me.

Has the nation been Christian in the past? Yes, it was founded as a Christian nation. It’s post-Christian now. That’s a sad thing, but it’s also happened in Europe and the UK.

What you saw yesterday was politics, not religion for most people, because that’s the only way people can thing about morals in this country now. Vast majorities of the people in this country think that if it’s legal, it must be okay. And if you can somehow steal it from someone or beat someone up to get it, that’s good. That’s America today. Hang onto your wallet and keys.

Hate to say this, but that didn’t start last night or in the last 4 years. Ask EdWest, he can give you a historical outline as to when we started down this path.

The real question is what exactly will it take for us to see that what we have been doing for the past 40 years isn’t working? We’re not communicating the truths of the faith in a way that is convincing others. Maybe what we really need to do as Christians is take a LONG hard look in the mirror and see where we have failed our nation. Maybe we need to find a better way to lead people to Christ.

It’s easy to blame the “other”, but it’s not solving anything or making anything better.

We have lost the nation. The real problem is so many people will not even give that any thought. It is always possible, with God’s help, to restore proper values, yet it is a historic challenge since we have fallen so far.

I agree that personally we do not lose if we have God on our side…yet nations come and go all the time, and often it is because they lost their faith and values. They get lazy and stop doing the things they know they should.

No, Catholics haven’t “lost the nation.” Catholics never had it in the first place. Seriously, Catholics need to look in the mirror and get past all these fictions about ethnic identity and all that. All that is gone.

Evangelicals, mainline protestants, Catholics and others have been the predominant religious groups in the USA, and Americans have always been very religious people.

BUT Americans, like Europeans before them, are in the process of shifting their moral beliefs from religion to a fake idea of science and to government. And there the majority of Catholics are no different than anyone else in the culture. This is why the behavioral metrics are almost identical between Catholics and the general population. They are statistically indistinguishable the great majority of the time.

Of course, when their governments eventually tank, as all governments do, they’re going to be between a rock and a hard place, but that’s not the issue for them now. They’re too busy with what they’re doing. Just like the Roman Empire was before them. Some things never change.

Being post-Christian is far more than sad…far more.

Stop! I never said Catholics had the nation. I am speaking of a global “we.” The loss of faith and morals is huge, and it will be to our ultimate doom if we do not turn it around.

I suspect that many people like me existed in the past who cried out the same thing as they saw their nation being flushed away.
