Apparently you really misunderstand the ideas of tolerance and peace.

Tolerance does not mean Kathy Griffin has to LIKE Christianity.

Tolerance does not mean Kathy Griffin has to respect your God the same way you do.

Tolerance means that Kathy Griffin does not go around burning churches down. She doesn’t think Christian couples shouldn’t be allowed to marry, she’s not on an anti-religion campaign.

She made a joke. I understand why it could offend you, but it doesn’t mean she’s intolerant.

Griffin has been outspoken about her militant atheist views and like Bill Maher and their ilk are on the fringes…but what scared me the most is the audiences reaction - there was alot of laughter at her blatent blasphemes! Pray for her and this crumbling culture we live in.
 
Poor misguided child. Pray for her and all others like her. They are listening to the evil onreand perhaps are so far removed from the truth that they don’t know it.
 
Griffin and Maher sound like true fallen-away Catholics. This is what happens when the under-catechized encounter something about the Church that they either don’t understand or have been injured in some way.

Who knows? Maybe they came across a pederast priest. Maybe a nun punished them for exhibiting some sort of crisis of faith in their youth. Sometimes the under-catechized equate “what Father says” with “what the Church says,” and just with all the creative interpretations of the Liturgy that we’ve all seen, we know that’s sometimes not true!

To be honest, some Ordinaries have some really ham-handed ways of dealing with the injury some of the laity receive at the hands of priests and religious. I think the compassionate thing here would be to understand that this may have happened to these two and to pray for them. I do, and part of my prayer is that the Holy Spirit softens the hardness of their hearts when someone comes along who can lovingly and compassionately speak to them about what the Church is really about.

I know that some of you that use this forum have had to dig your heels in the sand with priests for various reasons, and yet you aren’t jumping ship to join some LeFebvre type movement or another. You’re recognizing that your faith isn’t hung on the shoulders of so-and-so priest, and that the responsibility to persevere in faith is YOURS. This is a true blessing, and you should give thanks for that, while recognizing that others aren’t blessed with that perseverence.

Should they pray for it? Yes. But until they do, we must.

so true, i always find it interesting that many religions shout bigotry and intollerance for merely voicing disagreement or dislike for a particular religions. yet the practitioners of that religion constantly come up with ways to prevent others with different beliefs from doing what they believe is right. I mean you don’t see liberals making laws dictating who catholics can and cant marry. Or what things you can and can’t say on tv. It always irritates when an individual makes rules for everyone else based on there own personal belief. what you have to understand is that since chrisianity is based on faith, there is the possibility that your belief is wrong and and infact there may be no god and Kathi Griffin will not burn in hell for her comment. True tollerence is agreeing to disagree. Share your belief with others but dont force it on them.

Actually, they do.

The ACLU has been struggling to remove ANY mention of Christianity from the public discourse for decades.

If you really paid attention to what they are doing it might scare you as much as it does me.

Sorry, Nathanshcaffer, the fact of the matter is, there is but one Truth for all of humanity. There is a God, we are made in His image and likeness. And our life belongs to Him whether or not we acknowledge it.

We are not forcing our ‘belief’ or ‘faith’ on others, we are sharing the Truth of our existence with them. When we aren’t doing that, we’re praying for everyone to be granted the gift of wisdom to know God personally.

If she were to suddenly die with no opportunity for a deathbed repentance, she would see just how much good her Emmy award “god” would do her in avoiding eternal damnation.

Let us pray for her, for those who laughed at that remark, and also for those who might be influenced by this type of “humor.” Personally, I find it vulgar and disturbing, and I am closer than ever to throwing the TV into the trash bin.

But some people are acting like her comments should be censored. I disagree with that.

They are being censored. They will not air. And for that I am grateful.

In the name of ‘free speech’ this country has been exposed to every kind of filth imaginable. If you can’t see the difference between being able to express your views in a respectful manner and out-and-out garbage, drink a big cup of common sense.

What do you mean ‘in the name of’? Free speech is free speech, period.

With obvious exceptions, Americans have the right to say whatever they want. So if you look at society and point out all the terrible messages being sent out, you’re complaining about humanity in general. It’s not something that can be silenced.

Of course I can see the difference. A few points, though.

A.) Kathy Griffin was trying to make a joke, not a point. To realistically expect her to take an award at a media gala and proceed to explain her support of atheism is unwise.

B.) She doesn’t have to be respectful. I really can’t make it clear enough that I understand why you’re offended. But it’s stepping into very dangerous territory to say ‘Kathy Griffin offended my beliefs, she should be censored’. What’s next?

If you want to think less of Kathy Griffin, be my guest. If you don’t want your kids to watch the channel she’s broadcast on, feel free.

But by supporting her being censored, you’re actively taking a step into the lives of other people and that isn’t right.

I disagree as well. After all, our faith is intended to be best used in the face of adversity. It’s not in a vacuum where our faith is tested, so at the very least, in this society we should end up as the world’s very best Catholic Christians, simply because we’ve had to live our faith where it’s not mandated as the state religion.

It could be argued that the apathy toward the Church that is seen in the so-called Catholic countries of Europe might be due to the fact that it has been/is the state religion. Only 10 percent of all Catholics in Europe actually go to Mass…but still call themselves Catholic!

Folks, Jesus never kept himself hermetically sealed against people who didn’t agree with him, and neither should we. We can’t hide behind censorship just because it insults us.

Just a little reminder from Matthew 5:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

I love Kathy Griffin but she has gone too far this time. Of course I believe that the network has a right to censor her if they so desire. It’s their network! They have that right.
I’ll pray for Kathy that she return to the truth.

Kathy is ‘free’ to say whatever she wants.
The producers are ‘free’ to air the comment or censor them.
In their wisdom, they recognize airing the comment will upset a large percentage of their audience which may come back to bite them in the pocket book.
Granted, they aren’t censoring her on ‘moral grounds’ but financial ones.
Still, they could see the writing on the wall.

I agree with you 100 percent. It’s their right as an American company to make whichever business decisions they like, as long as they don’t break any law.

Bill Maher really ticks me off too, but I gotta admit he’s funny too.

In case you haven’t yet heard, on Saturday night at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Kathy Griffin won a trophy for her show, “My Life on the D-List.” Griffin is sort of the female Rodney Dangerfield. Her gimmick is that she’s an entertainer who doesn’t get a lot of respect. When she accepted her long-awaited award, she said: “A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.”

Now I could have been mildly insulted at that and turned the other cheek, as the founder of Christianity taught. But then she went on to say “Suck it, Jesus. This award is my God now.”

Needless to say, she offended me and millions of other Christians.

I don’t know what went through her mind and why she would think that was cutting edge or even funny. But first, I want to actually show you that, in fact, Kathy Griffin is wrong. Jesus had everything to do with her winning that award. And here’s the reasoning.
