Very good post, good points!

With all these things going on, I simply cannot understand why the catholic church is not seeing this??? It seems when the second coming does happen, they will be in equal shock as the non-believers are!
mikekle I agree with you as while no one but God knows exactly when the Lord will Return, as you said in a previous post, much of what the Bible predicts will happen before the End seems to be happening so I think we may well be in the Last Days before Christ’s Return. Btw I’m sorry if my earlier post to you seemed harsh but I wrongly assumed you were just another fundamentalist looking to convert me to “true Christianity”. Mea culpa.😊

One does not know with any certainty whether or not the end times event have occurred as Scripture says. Yet, many of the things like wars famine, earthquakes etc… people marring as in the days of Noah will go on till Christ’s return. What we need to do is to be prepared for Christ’s return; not worry about things that will or will not happen in the what we might think it will or the how it will.

Twice during his papacy, Pope Benedict has said the end times are not near.

Peace,
Ed
What about the book “Heralds of the Second Coming: Our Lady, the Divine Mercy and Popes of the Marian Era, From Blessed Pius IX to Benedict XVI”?

I looked it up on Amazon and it looks as if all the people in the title think the end is soon.
😦

I don’t worry about it or give it much thought - my end is coming regardless of when the world ends - I focus on staying true to my faith and trying to live it in my life.

Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

The Catholic Church’s position is that which Jesus teaches: no man can know. It could be in three seconds or three billion years. When the End Times happen doesn’t matter; we can’t be like the little boy when Christmas is near who only then begins being good. We must be virtuous all our lives.
I always thought the same as you, but now I’m worried. I read an article from a Catholic speaker Sonja Corbitt where she said the end times weren’t upon us. I contacted her via email to see if she still feels the same as she did when she wrote the article, a couple years ago. Apparently she’s changed her mind because the first thing she said was that "we are closer than ever and there are many things that need to happen before the Second Coming, surely the world is ripe for the Antichrist. etc.

Between her and the book I mentioned in a previous post, I’m worried. 😦

There is nothing happening today that hasn’t taken place over the past 2000 years.
Aren’t three things that must happen first?

A great apostasy, conversion of Israel to Christ and…something else, I’ve forgotten what?

Pope Benedict wasnt speaking infallibly on this, so he was just giving his opinion.

Doesn the Catechism say that the Antichrist already begins to take shape in the world today?

There are three things which must occur before the second coming:
  1. the Gospel must be preached to all nations
  2. the Jews must make a final decision if acceptance of Jesus
  3. the Church must pass through a great tribulation
Does #2 mean all of Israel becomes Christian?

I don’t think Pope Benedict was implying that the end times are in the distant future. He was mainly trying to say that certain events need to occur before we can expect the end times. See: markmallett.com/blog/benedict-and-the-end-of-the-world/

Although, I personally believe that the Second Coming will happen pretty soon (maybe 2-3 years), but I don’t like to call it ‘end times’ because I don’t believe the world will actually end.

It is unfortunate that the Church does not believe in the ‘thousand year reign of the Christ’, because that makes the Second Coming sound like some scary apocalypse with the end of everything,

The Second Coming will be more like a new beginning, rather than ‘the End’.

We do not know when the end will come, it could be ten thousand years away. There have been plenty of awful times, and most of them have been a lot worse than today.
That’s my feeling on the subject. What do you say to those who say three things must happen before the Second Coming:
  1. a great apostasy
  2. preaching the Gospel to all nations
  3. the conversion of Israel.
What do you say to those who claim most of the above has happened already and the Second Coming will be soon, within the next few years? Maybe in a generation or two ?

In a sense we are in the end times. This occurred with the fulfillment of Jesus Christ as savior, yet the end times may last for millions of years or could end at anytime. There is no new revelations concerning what is needed for our salvation as all was revealed by Christ through the Apostles. The Catholic Church continues to teach what was given to it first by Jesus then through His Apostles and has not changed its teachings. What Jesus was saying is that no man can know when Jesus will come to judge but we are to be prepared for His coming whether or not Christ appears in ones lifetime.

What about the book talking about our Popes and St. Faustina?

Hi Faith1960: Any book on private revelations and or speculations are just that private revelations and or speculations Under Canon Law of the Catholic Church the laity are free to accept or reject locations, private revelations etc… We are permitted to read and believe so long as they have not been condemned by the Church.

Are we free to disbelieve them, too?
