I’m wondering if the layoffs at the COB in SLC have anything to do with the end of an era at NCR. Many of them certainly seemed to be professionals, with lots of time to look up information.

LongJourney - What is COB and NCR? (SLC I can figure out! :p)

Hmmmnnn. Latter Day Saints Church Office Building-- I think it is very close to the SLC Temple.

NCR= (in this context LoL) Non-Catholic Religions.

You were SirThomasMore then SaintThomasMore, right?

Can anyone come back after one year? (Maybe ParkerD will be return)

Glad you are back! 🙂
Sir, yes Saint…no.

I had to petition to come back. It was not a sure thing.

I’m sure he already has…
I think ParkerD was given A LOT of rope. So he really can’t say he was treated unfairly.

Like I have asked before, I wonder how long it will be until they move away from JS as prophet and the BoM as scripture?

The older generation had the benefit of no internet access and the young people have unlimited access - I mean, the “anti” Mormon websites are abundant and packed with really good information.

I can just hear the conversations going on in wards and homes right now…I guess that is why there is the new group of Mormons called New Order Mormons.
They are trying to fight a 21st century war with 19th century ammunition, so to speak.

The “persecution complex”’ card is usually played very early when confronted with facts they can’t defend.

When they realize that particular tactic is old and worn out, and not working, they will move into “bearing their testimony”.

If and when they realize neither of those is going to work, they move on to. Misinformed, misunderstood, and mistranslated.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a mormon tell me that we couldn’t rely on this teaching, or that teaching from their “prophet”, because whomever wrote it down wrote it down as second hand knowledge, they didn’t have proper understanding, or they just plain goofed.

Their in a hard place with that now, with everything being audio/video recorded. Look at the problem they had last year (I think) with Boyd Packer’s conference speech. He said some very unkind things, and then the written record was changed to reflect kinder language. The battle about which one is right will last for eons.

Their next move is to parrot FAIR/FARMS, but they do that with trouble too, because they don’t always get the right quote based on context.

Mormons will very rarely, if ever correctly quote scripture, because of “context”. They will cherry pick. When context is pointed out, that is where the fireworks usually start.

Mormons are kind of like JW’s. They want you to take and read their stuff cover to cover, but the stuff you give them will make their skin blister. 😃

The big boys in the mormon church are in hide and deny mode ever since the Mark Hoffman forgeries.

They won’t even acknowledge the head in the hat translation method, or smith having a bar in his home. Them drinking the night of the shooting. etc.

Also, with the media the way it is today, it is becoming more and more evident to the membership, and the rest of the world that the mormon church is more of a business than a church. Can you say City Creek?

Yes, good point. The internet meets JS.
The “persecution complex”’ card is usually played very early when confronted with facts they can’t defend.
There have been some LDS posters who have used this one a lot - and they also claim persecution when JS gets brought up.

Can I hear an “Amen!?”

I have noticed that the younger posters don’t seem to make this claim as often as some of the older ones (older ones meaning about my age!:D)

Doesn’t it make you wonder what the Mormons talk about behind closed doors when stuff like this happens?

Funny thing about these LDS apologetics websites - they are so easy to dispute with a little internet research. This must be very frustrating for them.

Yes, except ParkerD. He was a real scripture buff. Of course, trying to point out that the scripture he was quoting to support his view was out of context was completely fruitless!

I guess that is why they are using a PR firm to try and turn their image around.
They won’t even acknowledge the head in the hat translation method, or smith having a bar in his home. Them drinking the night of the shooting. etc.
Their artwork shows JS sitting at a table writing the BoM. Not how he said it happened. 🤷

Mormon Inc.

I believe that many of the mormon posters we have here know something is wrong, and they haven’t quite figured out what.

That is why they are here.

When they are hit with fact, after fact, after fact showing that mormonism is wrong, I believe they go into spiritual, or sensory overload.

Of course, there are those few who think they will come here and teach us Catholics a few things, but they soon find out we are much more knowledgeable than they thought. 🙂

Throw in the fact that there are several, very knowledgeable ex-mormons, now Catholics here, I’m surprised their heads don’t explode. 😃

I think all of this causes them to pause and think, and possibly even research matters on their own.

I pray for them, and I pray for the best.

Jesus meets everyone where they are, no matter their circumstance.

Great points.

There has been a real change in the types of posters that are coming here to CAF lately. Younger, don’t stay too long…I wonder why?

  1. Questioning their faith in the mormon church
  2. Full of faith mormons, lacking in apologetic skill and knowledge
Those are my guesses.

ya think?

I had a similar situation with LivingWaters.

I sure miss the good ol’ days of ParkerD and Dianiad! At least we could always count on a daily response from them. 🙂

I wonder if the LDS posters come on here either:
  1. truly believing that the LDS church and JS have an airtight case and are surprised to find out that there is evidence to the contrary
or
  1. they don’t expect Catholics to be able to defend their faith
(perhaps it is a little bit of both)
Yes, I miss ParkerD as well. Was so surprised when he was banned. He had been here for so long and had posted thousands of times.

He posted alot, but toward the end, he never answered anything.

He beat around the bush over analyzing the question, the language, etc.

It was his undoing.
