Communion in the hand used to not be permitted in Poland and in the Vatican - in recent years it’s been permitted in those places (so much for it being such an inferior option - pray tell WHY would someone who thinks so extend the indult?).

I’m unaware of anywhere else where it is prohibited, although I’m sure we’ll be told if there is anywhere.

The Pope is not infallible–except in very narrow circumstances.

laudamus te:
I would hazard a guess that there will be a great schism in the Church, and this issue will be at the heart of the matter.
Thats not to say there will be some who so want to control those who they deem irreverant may struggle in anxiety wishing others would follow their example of piety.
.
If you think this is about “control” of others who are deemed irreverant, you have a very narrow understanding of this issue.

Paul, true to his reputation, widely allowed the in-the-hand indult…even though he publicly stated it was less conducive to reverence and faith.

These things happen. Since they don’t involve infallibility, while they’re regrettable, they happen, and oh well.

So why are you an EMHC?
I became one early on in my reversion to the faith and I love to do it. I thought of stopping at one point but am torn between traditionalizm and inclusion of the layity in the Mass. I feel its not up to me to interpret the spirit of Vat 2. If I don’t do it some one else will. I cannot stop it but I can make sure no host is ever dropped or anyone is ever refused for kneeling or no-one walks off without consuming the host in my sight.

I have read that the bishops of the Phillipines had rescinded Communion in the Hand. Also, Bishop Laise of San Luis, Argentina:
tldm.org/News6/Laise.htm

“With Communion in the hand, a miracle would be required during each distribution of Communion to avoid some Particles from falling to the ground or remaining in the hand of the faithful” - Bishop Laise

That’s because the answers aren’t good.
I am not so sure about that.

I think a couple of them might be. I don’t buy into conspiracy theories. I believe the church is protected from the gates of hell and I am not culpable for misplaced obedience should that turn out to be the case. I do the best I can to make sure it isn’t.

Thats a trend I wouldn’t squalk at should it come to the states.

I’m sure many would though.

Thats one point of view. Hardly my only one. So you see I am NOT narrow minded. I am catholic minded thank you very much.

When we have the ability to research and learn–truth from untruth—can we really use the excuse that we have misplaced obedience—an follow one who leads to untruth.

I borrowed the following from paramedicgirl’s blog. Just something to think about.

From St. Louis de Montfort: True Devotion To the Blessed Virgin Mary, No. 228

Of Judgment, and the Punishment of Sinners In all things look to the end; and how thou wilt stand before that strict Judge (Heb. 10:31) to whom nothing is hid, who is not appeased with gifts, nor admitteth excuses, but will judge according to right. O wretched and foolish sinner, who sometimes art in terror at the countenance of an angry man, what answer wilt thou make to God who knoweth all thy wickedness (Job 9:2)! Why dost thou not provide for thyself (Luke 16:9) against the day of judgement, when no man can be excused of defended by another, but every one shall be a sufficient burden for himself!

oh c’mon. it’s one thing to be commanded to murder innocent people knowing full well that it’s wrong, it’s another thing to honestly not know whether a (dare i say, minor) tradition is detrimental when our leaders, who we obligated to trust, are saying it’s not detrimental.

so please, let’s not use scripture to turn a mole hill into a mountain.

If you are referring to my previous post—it was meant in general–not specific to communion in the hand or standing.

GOOD:
Trust this:
Pope Paul VI: Holy Communion received on the tongue “signifies the reverence of the faithful for the Eucharist … provides that Holy Communion will be distributed with due reverence…is more conducive to faith, reverence and humility… It [Communion in the hand] carries certain dangers with it which may arise from the new manner of administering Holy Communion: the danger of a loss of reverence for the August sacrament of the altar, of profanation, of adulterating the true doctrine.” (in his instruction Memoriale Domini, May 29, 1969)

Again, irony alert! Irony alert!😉

Pictures still speak more than a thousand words, whether written by a Pope or anyone else:

moral of the story: worthiness or unworthiness does NOT depend on hand or tongue. And whatever else people may rightly say about JPII and Benedict XVI, I don’t think either of them could reasonably be accused of being lacking in respect for and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament :nope:

The Eucharist is and has always been frequently disrespected by advocates of ALL methods of reception - hence St Paul having to tell his followers off about it!

Here endeth the lesson 🤓

2007 - 1969 = 38 years, 3 Popes ago. infallible? no. Sacred Tradition? no, changeable tradition. the past 30 pages has been regurgitating this.

if a Catholic doesn’t even trust his Magisterium…

Lily, you can post all the photos you want of what the last two popes have done.

The fact remains, Communion on the tongue is the norm in the Roman Rite, and when granting an indult to the USA for reception on the hand, Paul VI said it must be done only under conditions that guarantee no irreverence, AND he referred to his 1969 document where he said Communion on the tongue is “more conducive to faith and reverence”.

Weighty though they be, what makes you think that these writings of Paul VI somehow count more than the actions of our last Supreme Pontiff and current Supreme Pontiff? :hmmm: Not.

Paul didn’t say Communion on the hand was banned. On the contrary, he allowed it. So have they. But Paul’s words stand. Nothing in the writings of John Paul or Benedict have contradicted them.

All THREE popes gave Communion in the hand on occasion. But the Church has taught reception on the tongue is “more conducive to faith and reverence”.

Case closed.
