I don’t receive in a spirit of thankfulness, awe, reverence and humility. I am thankful! I am in awe! I am reverent! I am humbled! How profound that the My Lord would even allow this communion to happen! I don’t act in the spirit of. I am profoundly in total amazement. In that moment when heaven and earth touch there is everything good and holy and I am so touched by my Lord! It is beyond words!
Yes, yes, of course we all know I’m an awful sinful hand-receiver who couldn’t possibly ever truly understand the awesome sublimity of receiving Our Lord in the Eucharist as much as you do, and I’m in no way worthy to touch your shoelaces because you’re obviously so much better than me in every possible way being a receiver on the tongue

I recieve on the tongue on my knees because I am not worthy. I don’t do it to get your attention or to make you feel less worthy. It has been made known to my soul that I am not worthy of this beautiful gift and I want to show how greatful I am for that gift. I don’t do it for anyones benefit. I don’t know how anyone else feels about receiving Jesus. This has been a very difficult year for me and to be able to join in the Mass brings me a profound peace. To know that all my children are with me, all my family, all the Saints and angles are coming together. Then Jesus comes in all his glory! Wow!!! I crave the Mass! I just wanted to share how wonderful it is to be a part of the most wonderful event there is.

I believe that the phrase “In the spirit,” get tossed around alot. It makes me cringe.

I am sorry you felt I was saying I was better than you. I am not. I don’t think people who receive on their tongue are better than those who don’t.

You’re right, that word probably does get overused :o

And yes, the Mass certainly is the greatest thing. I crave it too you know :highprayer: :angel1: - things just seems to go straight downhill if I have a day where I don’t go to Mass. You probably feel the same.

God bless :crossrc:

WOW! I would hope that we as Catholics should not be sarcastic towards one another especially regarding the subject of the Eucharist. Hand or the tongue we were just stating our preferences. It does not make one better than another. Please we are just having a conversation regarding our experiences. It is good dialogue. But one does not need to be ridiculed reguarding our experiences with the Holy Eucharist. Have a nice day!

Yes, unfortunately the catholic church has succumbed to the modern world and after vatican II things has gone from bad to worst.
Actually, the vatican II document does not say that is OK to receive in the hand but it is something the "modernist"have introduced on their own and noone in the church has challenged this problem. Instead, the vatican keeps quite towards this radical practice.
I agree when you said that you do not feel worthy to take our Lord in your hands. I feel the same way. I feel it is a sacrilege and like you I have never received him in the hand. I encourage you to continue to faithful and true to the tradition of the church and not to give in to this [Edited by Moderator] practice. Pray for priests to be more holy and less secular.
May God Bless and i’ll keep you in my prayers.
Since when is what the early church did a mondernist practice, or radical?

Last week I decided to receive on the tongue, since I plan on attending a TLM mass once in a while.

When I went to the Notre Dame Cathedral in France, I was pretty much forced to receive on the tongue. Well, I guess my mom told me that I had to 'cause everyone else did it that way. It kinda made me think a bit about why everyone there received on the tongue.

I am an EMHC at my Church for the “youth mass.” I have NEVER seen one of the EMHC’s receive on the tongue while up at the altar.

I never recieved on the toungue. At my church both ways are used and the people can decide.I think the other way is easier, but it doesnt really matter much.I love the Eucharist!

Both Pope John Paul II and now Pope Benedict refuse to give Communion in the Hand.
But why is it still allowed in some places? I’m just curious, that’s all. After all, I didn’t know this, and I’m still not very clear after reading the posts.

What a beautiful testimony! Domine non sum dignus! Lord I am not worthy! I receive on the tongue too for this very reason. I’m not doing it out of a sense of being “better”. I recognize that I am not worthy of this gift. I’ll never forget back in 1990 when I started my current job. At my old job, I had a church 12 blocks away which had a noon Mass on holy days. No problem. I’d go to Mass and bring a sandwich in the truck.

My “new” and current job - there is no church nearby. Now, we have choir rehearsal on Wednesday nights at 6:30. The Indult parish for our diocese is a next door neighbor to my cathedral parish and they have a 5 pm Mass (NO) on Ash Wednesday. They also still have Communion rails. I’m not making this up. The first year I went (1990), I was so overwhelmed by being able to receive Communion kneeling as I did when I was a boy, that I cried. It’s not a matter of me feeling superior. I genuinely, honestly, miss not being able to kneel because I know in my heart of hearts that I am not worthy. It’s not you, it’s me.

‘Some places’ to the best of my knowledge includes St Peters itself, so regardless of whether or not John Paul II or Benedict XVI subscribe personally to the practice other ministers are giving in the hand under their noses.

I always recieve the Most Holy Eucharist on tongue. Last wednesday after watching the program of Fr. Bing Arellano in EWTN about the best posture and manner in recieving the Eucharist, i have recieved Him for the first time in my tongue kneeling.

It was a great feeling in recieving my Lord and My God kneeling for i feel of his Majesty and Authority in the most humble way.

If we kneel in benediction what more if we are going to recieve Him Body and Blood with His Soul and Divinity.

At. the name of Jesus every knee shall bend.

I guess it all depends on what churches we choose to attend. In the New Mass people are encouraged to receive it mainly in the hand. Some walk back to their seats holding it in their hand. I have a relative who went to Holy Communion at a Novus Ordo service and the priest would not allow her to receive Holy Communion in the tongue and in the end she gave in and received the Holy Eucharist in her hands.

If one attends a Traditional Catholic Church, she/he would never be allowed to show irreverence before the Lord at Holy Communion because He is truly present. The Holy Eucharist is placed on the tongue. It is simple - it has always been that way for centuries and in these churches (traditional) it is accepted and understood by the people who attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that the Lord is to be revered. The recipients kneel to receive Our Blessed Saviour on the tongue. That is what our Faith is all about and all the angels and saints do likewise.

Tell you what - if I were an unknowledgeable spectator - I’d find the whole idea of sticking out your tongue MOST disrespectful.

If I loved my Lord and my God I would show Him the highest honour and respect that I would have for Him. I would gladly follow what the early fathers of the church, the saints and martyrs and all the holy religious before us have always done. I would kneel in reverence and receive the Holy Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ on the tongue. I would not be too concerned about an “unknowledgeable spectator” or “unbeliever” who may be present at the same time.

When you think about it, you’re taking a piece of Jesus Christ’s body and eating it. The whole idea seems disrespectful!

None of us are worthy to even be in the same room with the Eucharist. That’s what makes this sacrament so phenomenal! Not only is Christ really present at every single Mass, but God has invited us to come and partake in this feast!

The Eucharist is going to be in our mouths and digestive tracts, so I don’t think receiving it in the hand is a problem. The important thing is our attitude.

❤️

Except that plenty of saints and martyrs in the early centuries of the Church received in the hand. Including at least one Doctor of the Church - St Cyril of Jerusalem, who left some writings on the topic of receiving in the hand.

Really? Than the Roman Catholic Church of whom your fathers and forefathers were members were being ‘disrespectful’ each time they followed the holy teachings of the church to kneel and receive the Eucharist in the mouth. The important thing here is to gadge where you are coming from. Nothing that is a holy act ever changes - it is truly the attitude of the individual that makes it okay for him/her to receive as he pleases.
