My point is why aren’t they seeing similar outbreaks? Same in Philippians. Travel, density and population not much different, no?

No we didn’t.
When did Taiwan take action?
What did it know and when did it know it?
What were we waiting for?
South Korea had tests, isn’t that rather significant? Apparently, we did not. Is that not rather significant rather than to just gloss over that?
No one seems to be forthcoming with how we blew it on tests.
Is the worldofmeters.info incorrect?
I took these numbers from worldometers. I am not sure what you are missing.

They will. In time. It has already started.

I’m seeing different dates for 1st reported cases than you state on worldometers. Ex: Italy first report Feb 15, 3 cases. Germany, France also Feb. 15. Spain 1st case February 24th. February 21st, Canada…

Yes this site, that’s were I’m getting the numbers. Where exactly are you looking when you go to a countries page for the date for initial 1st cases?

That site is good for general tracking, but not the start up details.
Italy had two cases on 1/31

As pointed out elsewhere 1.2B people in Africa, less cases than one neighborhood in NYC. Same in the Philippines, most densely highly populated country in the world with very heavy international travel but low case numbers. Something else is at play here I think. I’m seeing an interesting link between weather and countries and states/cities. Much higher outbreaks in states/cities, countries where temperature is between 40-50 degrees and with lower humidity levels than others.
Or a lack of testing. They don’t have the capacity to run the numbers needed. Unfortunately their president is incredibly unstable, which makes the looming crisis even worse.

A majority of Chinese in Italy live in the Lombard region where the epidemic is raging.

There were 3 flights a week to Milan from Wuhan before Italy banned travel to and from China January 31st. It was the first European country to do so.

But some Chinese were able to bypass this if there was a third country from which they entered Italy.

We also know as per other articles I’ve read that there were Chinese tourists affected by Covid-19 while vacationing in Italy, so clearly not every Chinese person that entered Italy was conscientious about spreading the disease.

I’ve read it was an Italian expat who returned to Italy from China that brought the virus to the region.

I read that patient zero was a German businessman, but now officials/doctors in Italy are saying that he was likely patient “200”.

Italy this year has had an influx of pneumonia and flu-like illnesses in January.

The virulence of the epidemic in the affected regions in Italy leads me to believe that there was more than ONE carrier of that disease into Italy.

No doubt China’s lack of transparency played a huge part in Italy’s and other country’s epidemic demise.

This wasn’t what I read but the article has similar details (colleague rather than expat as I remembered) but with newer information.
Doctors initially believed the Codogno patient, a 38-year-old man named only as Mattia, had been infected by a colleague who had recently returned from a business trip in China. However, that man tested negative, meaning the hunt was on for the origin of the contagion.
He said their analysis showed that the Italian outbreak must have started between Jan. 25-26, well before the first patient was officially diagnosed in the northern town of Codogno.

“We can imagine that a person who contracted the virus in the context of those infected in Munich came to Italy and the area where the virus first spread without showing any symptoms,” Galli told Reuters.

I can’t even begin to imagine the anguish and potential “survivors’ guilt” (for a lack of a better term) “patient zeros” are dealing with.

Which is why I said patient zero was German, however, having read so much, the belief that he was patient zero is unlikely.

The disease was in the country for far longer than was thought, moreover, individuals can be asymptomatic and thus carriers of the disease.

Yes, and I imagine the family’s of those who died must be thinking whether or not they infected their elders??

Some people show no symptoms of Covid-19. They are called super spreaders.

Where are you getting numbers?
I got them from the spreadsheet, not from the individual graphs. But curiously, I have not been able to navigate back to the page that includes that last column of data.

I noticed that as well. I clicked directly on the column description (Deaths/1M pop)and it sorted and then the data appeared in the column.
