Why does that matter?
Because pictures mean little compared to seeing the actual person. For me, attraction is far more than 2D images, and neither of us had professional studio prints either, lol, and we didn’t start video chat until AFTER meeting.

So I’m saying I didn’t use the pictures too much to form my mental image until I’d seen him for real. Now I use the pictures to keep the real image fresh, because I have basically the opposite of a photographic memory - really bad image retention.

My husband’s first memory of me is getting a spanking for taking my helium balloon from me (I was five at the time) and releasing it.

My first real memory of him was as a pretty cocky self-satisfied 12 year old standing in the door way of my cousin’s house.

50 years later we still have not entirely changed our opinions.

LOL! Apparently, my mother’s first memory of my father was a cocky self-satisfied 20 something year old handing her written documents to type up (she was a professional typist). Yeah, I don’t think she’s entirely changed her opinion, either.

Interesting. I met my fiancee online too. On CAF actually. I’d video chatted with her and seen pictures and found her very attractive. More so in reality when we eventually met. But both of us would say that the six months we spent having (sometimes deep) phone conversations about our hopes, dreams, and aspirations for life were building up a deeper connection than just one based on initial attractiveness. As it happens, we are both very attracted to each other, but I really think that even if I’d looked at her picture originally and said “meh” instead of “wowsers”, I still would have made that same connection. What originally attracted me to her was not looks at all but her story of conversion to the Catholic faith. I just thought that any woman with that much conviction and faith had to be an amazing catch.

That is remarkably similar to what happened to us

People here are quite short so I’m not too bothered about men’s options on my height. (I’m still below average tho, 12 year olds are taller)

It’s just a pain in the butt to buy pants!
I meant that men (generally) prefer to be taller than the woman. Far more men are above 5’ than men who are above 6’, and the shorter you are, the better your odds of finding a man taller than you. It can really bother him when she’s taller.

I’d never wear heels to be taller than him on purpose, but it might be a slight bummer to forego my awesome black knee high, 4 inch platform-heeled boots… But I would if it made me noticeably taller than him and he didn’t like it. Or at least I wouldn’t wear them when specifically out with him. 🤷

Actually, my first boyfriend - who I was not attracted to when we first met - was rather tall, and I prefer tall men. I am just above average height. I am not sure how things would have turned out if he had been shorter. Apparently he always thought I was rather pretty.

Well I know that Americans are typically taller than asians statistically. And the avg here is 5’3" so you cant be far off O.o

I think you general self esteem would promt to noting talker 12 year olds

I am 5’9" (5’9" and 3/4 to be overly exact) and as such I am 1/4 of the statisticsl avg of 5’10. However I can note taller youngsters at times lol. Bc I am not talk guy persay. But stat wise anyway there are more of people my height than above and we love 5-5’5… actually studies show that men like a girl at least 3 in shorter and women like a guy at least 6 in taller.

With I think the latter playing out more often. But the nice thing for you is you actually get more options that way 😃

The average height for American women is only 5’3"? OK, then I’m a lot taller than I thought (5’7".) I thought it was closer to 5’5".

… So did I lol. Being 5’6’ myself.

Actually, I still do 😛

Maybe the 5’3" includes Central and South America in " American women"? I saw 5’5" as the average for non-Hispanic white US women, with 5’4" average among all US women.

I’m 5’2.5" and definitely significantly shorter than most women I meet, unless they’re Latina or Asian.

And yeah, back in my dating years being shorter was a good thing. Men mistook my petiteness for sweetness, the poor things.😛

I think I might have asked a similar question ages back, but I have noticed many posters stating as fact, that the less attractive among us have no chance of even being considered as dating or marriage material. And many have reassured them that no, it is possible to become attracted to someone later on, even if the first impression was not of overwhelming attraction.

However, I do wonder how common this actually is. It has happened to me more than once, but I am a woman, and it seems most of the comments about physical attraction being a pre-requisite to dating, are based on assumptions that men are “wired” in a way that if they don’t find a woman attractive on first glance, they will never give that women a second glance, and so a woman who is not that attractive, have no, or at least very little chance, to find a mate.

I find such a bleak view of dating to be, well, extreme. On the other hand, most of the “homely” people I know who are happily married or partnered, are older. So maybe people need to mature a bit to look beyond looks? Or maybe all that means, is that these people were more attractive when they were younger?

Though I guess a cynical view would be, most men aren’t shallow enough to dump a woman they’ve come to love, even if she later loses her earlier beauty. But they still must have been attracted to her at some point to even consider them as a possible spouse.
I’m male. I don’t look too bad but I have a big nose. I think you can become attracted to a woman, as it’s happened to me, but I have to admit, I have fallen in the trap of wanting to be with someone because of how they look. I don’t know, I try not think too much.

My apologies, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_average_human_height_worldwide
Yeah apparently it is lol. Also I note some different sources often list diff things. I would be interested to find a median height too. As avgs can be mildly skewed lol.

Tbh I have tyoically known more women 55 and below, but if there are more 6ft women than 4 ft for example, the avg will be higher.

Reading on this subject I just found that short people live longer and get less chronic diseases O.o so rock onnshorter people! Lol

It’s true! I was picking up my sister from school and a bunch of 12 year olds walked past me, haha. I don’t know why younger people are getting taller and taller here.

I just hope my baby face and height would mean that I’ll look young when I’m 40+, instead of a wrinkly baby 😊

Ohband according to this evanmarckatz.com/blog/dating-tips-advice/are-height-requirements-still-keeping-you-from-finding-love/

Women are actually bigger perpetrators of height issues in dating lol.

But honestly given all my interaction have been with girls shorter than me, if they get taller it “feels” weird. Even kissing, cuddling, arm around while walking etc…

So I will admit, if I see 5’8 and above on a dating profile she needs to be crazy, insanely gorgeous and awesome in the orofile for me to message her.

Same in person lol, no super wow initial (name removed by moderator)ression and Inam not flirting first lol.

Yeah it’s funny how people think short=sweet.

I remember after yelling at a guy for touching my wallet, he called me a chilli padi- small but spicy (bird’s eye chilli)

Such a weird moment but it is true. Haha
