How many of the 92% attend church regularly?
 
It has less to do with the number of immigrants coming in than the below-replacement birth rates in Italy (and elsewhere). If memory serves me correctly, if their present fertility rates were to continue and immigration was not used to replace losses, the population would drop by 85% by 2100. That’s from a book called “What to Expect When No One’s Expecting”. Basically, Italy as a cultural entity is doomed, so enjoy the sun and coffee while it lasts.

Probably about a third or so - about the same as the USA. In Northern Europe the proportion of self- declared Christians is lower but a higher proportion attend church regularly.

Italy has the lowest fertility rates in Europe. But there are particular social and demographic reasons why this is so. Doomed eh? We’ll see.

The math says Italians are going extinct, and fast. Are you saying the math is wrong? Also I believe Poland’s fertility rate is even lower, so you can have a glass of vino to celebrate that, if you like.

Math is always wrong. It’s Maths. And the Maths are only right if one assumes that the trajectory remains constant - which is highly unlikely.Out if interest when precisely will Italy and Poland cease to exist. I am sure we are all riveted!

Oh, I wouldn’t vouch for the accuracy of the calculation, just its certainty. Soon, if not now, every year there will be fewer Italians than the one before it (see also Japan). This is beyond doubt. Italy will cease to exist when it gets overrun by whoever realizes it isn’t able to defend itself. On the upside, no one will miss it.

When and if the majority of Europeans turn a back on the immigrant is when fear would have conquered love and hope.

We are not called to welcome the stranger when it is easy or convenient. We are called to do this PERIOD.

According to this article, fewer than 1/2 million babies were born in Italy in 2015. Italy’s population is just under 60 million.

Whatever the reasons for this low birthrate, unless things have changed, Mass-attendance is about 15% for every-Sunday goers, and 7.7% for those who go between 1 and 3 times per month.

Mass attendance rates in France, Daughter of the Church 😦 are even lower, estimated at less than 5% attending regularly.

And I agree with the Bishop, because the low level of Mass attendance indicates something else: people are not praying. So there is little to divert the path that all of Europe is on: eventual loss to the Moslems, who are praying, who are having babies, and all too many of whom believe that Sharia should be established as the rule of law all over the world. Just because they are not terrorists doesn’t mean that Europe will survive as a Christan civilization.

So if present trends continue there might be no Italy in 4000 years. Italy has given more to the world in art, food, architecture and joy than probably any other country on the earth. But perhaps you prefer survival of the most vulgar ������

No, 2100 is pretty reasonable, and I care as much about Italians as they care about themselves. They’re the ones with the cultural death wish, I’m just the guy who’s going to stand by and watch it happen. Let’s hope whoever takes over has a flair for architectural preservation.

The percentages argument really falls flat on its face in Europe. There actually doesn’t need to be a majority of Muslims, or even radical Muslims, for sharia to be forced on the people. In Nazi Germany, the most support they ever got was around 2% of the population as party members.

I hear the “but Muslims are only 2-10%” a lot in these discussions, but considering that not all Muslims are the problem (apologies to the far-right on that), those who are demanding certain cultural changes or living in enclaves (that the left likes to pretend don’t exist) have quite a bit of influence in the government and culture if they are making these kinds of waves.

Most of this is because of cultural suicide. It’s obvious to me that the sharia law activists are merely taking advantage of the situation. They aren’t using a conquering army, and quite frankly, they don’t need one.

They are patient and will bide their time.
