My DH didn’t like listening to Father Corapi and I couldn’t understand why. Lately, though, I think he’s listening more to Father’s words rather than the presentation or tone and finally getting (hearing) the message.

On the other hand, when I first felt led to the Catholic church I would have EWTN on. One night, using it more for background noise I heard this powerful speaker that made me pay attention. The message was AMAZING presented in a way I had never heard it.

Father Corapi is coming to Seattle in February and all I want for Christmas is tickets to hear him in person. He is one of the three influences that led me to the Catholic church.

Fine. Try some of this:

YOU’D BETTER GET TO CHURCH OR GO TO HELL, SINNER!!!

DON’T GIMME ANY OF THAT, 'BUT, FATHER, MY HUSBAND’S STILL A GOOD MAN", STUFF. NO HE ISN’T!!! HE’S GOING TO HELL IF HE DOESN’T GET TO CHURCH!!!

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

GET DOWN AND DO PUSH-UPS!!! BEAT YOUR FACE ON PAVEMENT, SINNNER!!! BEAT IT FLAT!!! DROP!!! KNOCK’M OUT, PRIVATE!!! I SAID NOW!!!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Did you like that? I didn’t really like doing it. But, if that’s what you need, I’ll be there for you, every time. 👍

“Some get a lot of benefit from Fr. Corapi”

So I see. I’m really surprised.

“Some get a lot of benefit from (fill in the name)”

Jack Abramoff

“I could say a few things about your obvious feelings toward authority… your reply to posts sounds like you are looking for a fight???”

Farthest thing from my mind. I’m chllier than a cucumber sitting on an ice-burg.

“…maybe do not respond to a thread if you are not prepared for a response… we are discussing topics and ALL trying to learn.”

Gotcha. Didn’t mean to be mean. I came over from a few really rude websites, where fighting like a savage was the norm. I’m learning to be nice. 👍

YOU’D BETTER GET TO CHURCH OR GO TO HELL, YOU SINFUL LOW-LIFE, YOU!!!

DON’T GIMME ANY OF THAT, 'BUT, FATHER, MY HUSBAND’S STILL A GOOD MAN", STUFF. NO HE ISN’T!!! HE’S GOING TO HELL IF HE DOESN’T GET TO CHURCH!!!

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

GET DOWN AND DO PUSH-UPS, LOSER!!! BEAT YOUR FACE ON PAVEMENT, SINNNER!!! BEAT IT FLAT!!! DROP!!! KNOCK’M OUT, PRIVATE!!! I SAID NOW!!!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

No one likes being yelled at. It’s a shame that you haven’t opened your heart to any of it. I’ll pray for you.

I just got the impression some of you like him because he’s a fanatical preacher.😃

Father Corapi is one of the best speakers I have heard and I love what he says and the way he says it. There is so much junk on tv to be angry about. He is not one of them. He is no where near as harsh as has been stated. I suspect you have a problem with his teachings, if so, you have a problem with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

I like him because he speaks the truth without sugar coating, without hesitation…and that’s something many people don’t want to hear.

(It could be because a parish priest is worried about losing members of his parish…Father Corapi doesn’t have to worry about that. I posted a thread about my parish priest telling everyone about women becoming priests in the future…also Mother Mary was a sinner after giving birth to Jesus (?)…that’s some mess you won’t hear from Father Corapi.

Fanatical isn’t the word I’d using for him.

Obviously you don’t have to like him. He’s reaching people who need to hear the message he delivers it though.

‘Me thinks’ that if Father Corapi is ‘kind’ in person, he should show that side of himself on TV, instead of acting like a drill sergeant. You DO realize he WAS an Army NCO, right? Perhaps he’s hamming it up a bit for publicity’s sake. Could that be interpretted as falsehood? I wonder.👍
You seem to think there is something wrong with being straight forward. Fr. Corapi is very straight forward. He does not hide aspects of the faith. If he were to hide things or to water it down and soften it up he would be acting uncharitable. He would be giving falsehood and he wouldn’t be doing a good job of leading people to God.

He’s not a fanatical preacher, he simply preaches what the catechism says. His main series is the catechism series in which he goes through the catechism. He preaches exactly what the Church teaches.

I don’t like the guy’s style (way too harsh). What purpose does his approach serve in the grand scheme of things? I wonder who decided he could make a contribution to national evangelization. ***I DON’T GET IT! Whenever I see him on TV, I bolt across the room to change channels or hit the mute button. The guy really gets under my skin. ***😦
Perhaps you should stay on milk a little longer. You’re not ready for meat.

Jesus had some pretty harsh things to say too. Perhaps you would have had issues with Him if you heard Him preaching nearly 2000 years ago. Some of the things he said… “It would be better if such a man had a millstone tied around his neck and he be cast into the sea.” Or, “unless you repent you will likewise perish.” Or “the man not wearing the weeding garment will be cast out into utter darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Or “You serpents, you brood of vipers, how can you flee from the judgment of hell?” Or “it would be better for this man if he had never been born.” Or “You are like white washed tombs, but inside you are full of dead men’s bones.” Or “For out of the heart of man come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft false testimony, blasphemy.” Etc, etc.

In Christ,
Irenaeus

Warning:

It is possible to agree or disagree with the style of another without being uncivil or uncharitable. It is the expectation that posters will maintain a tone, tenor, and style consistent with that expected in polite society. Failure to do so will have adverse consequences for posting privileges.

I love Fr. Corapi. His sermons are not watered down. He tells the truth whether it’s fashionable or not. Watered down sermons are boring and put me to sleep.

Perhaps he is touching something in you that needs attention. Otherwise, I don’t believe what he says would bother you so much.

If you had a friend or relative who you knew was in danger, but he did not know or at least did not fully appreciate the scope of the danger, how would you warn him? Would you say simply, “It’s just my opinion, but perhaps doing ______ might not be a good idea…just a thought.”? Or would you tell him exactly how what he was doing was putting him in grave danger?

Whether we agree with him or not, I do think that is the spirit behind Fr. Corapi’s manner. He has gotten a bit closer to the enemy than many of us. He knows the enemy better than many of us. He is, therefore, telling it like it is in an attempt to help us become warriors as well.

Perhaps not everyone is cut out to be a warrior. He’s a solid recruiter for those who are.

Father Corapi gives us a dose of reality. Reality is a hard thing, for many of us in the US it is just too comfortable in the suburbs. Father Corapi only wants us to make sure we have our priorities straight … they seem to be backward for many US Catholics. Call it a hard slap or cold water on the face but we need to be shaken out of our slumber. I dont want someone gently rousing me from my sleep if the building is on fire … I need to be awoken immediately and if necessary, harshly. He is only telling us … hey this is serious. I love him for that.

I like his message fine (what I’ve heard of it), but I am with the few here who do not appreciate his tone … he comes across as arrogant to me. I know that’s all in the delivery, because he doesn’t say anything that leads me to believe he IS arrogant … but something about the way he speaks and carries himself rubs me the wrong way.

And I don’t like the rosary comment someone posted above. The rosary is a private devotion, there is no requirement to pray it at all, let alone every day. It is a good and holy thing to do, but NOT doing it every day shouldn’t earn derision (to God, no less!) from a priest. Fr. Corapi’s job is to try and help people get to heaven … not recommend God shut them out for not being more perfect than is required by the Church. I would like to see or hear the quote in context, though.

I try to listen to Fr. Corapi once a week for sure. I catch him on EWTN or the radio. I appreciate his serious no nonsense approach. I do not find it arrogant, but rather direct and sincere. I guess I need to be listening to him!
