I like his message fine (what I’ve heard of it), but I am with the few here who do not appreciate his tone … he comes across as arrogant to me. I know that’s all in the delivery, because he doesn’t say anything that leads me to believe he IS arrogant … but something about the way he speaks and carries himself rubs me the wrong way.

And I don’t like the rosary comment someone posted above. The rosary is a private devotion, there is no requirement to pray it at all, let alone every day. It is a good and holy thing to do, but NOT doing it every day shouldn’t earn derision (to God, no less!) from a priest. Fr. Corapi’s job is to try and help people get to heaven … not recommend God shut them out for not being more perfect than is required by the Church. I would like to see or hear the quote in context, though.
I agree to an extent - certainly about the Rosary comment. There were hundreds of years worth of perfectly saintly (and sainted) Catholics who lived before the Rosary even came into common use.

And I was watching the other day, and he several times interjected comments into his talk to the effect of ‘I don’t really care if people don’t like me’. Now don’t get me wrong, Jesus did say ‘happy are those who are persecuted for my sake’, but to me he came across as being altogether too prideful and boastful about the fact that people didn’t like him, like the mere fact in itself proves anything about him (which it doesn’t).

I don’t like the guy’s style (way too harsh). What purpose does his approach serve in the grand scheme of things? I wonder who decided he could make a contribution to national evangelization. ***I DON’T GET IT! Whenever I see him on TV, I bolt across the room to change channels or hit the mute button. The guy really gets under my skin. ***😦
His style may seem harsh to others but there is one thing I can really depend on with Fr. Corapi–he tells the truth!! How he does it may or may not appeal to others. I know I didn’t care for him at first either, but the more I heard fluff from the pulpit the more I began to appreciate his straightforward honesty!!

:clapping::amen::clapping:

I have never seen Fr. Corapi (my carrier doesn’t have EWTN), but the feelgood, group-therapy, Carl Rodgers, hippie-dip style of “preaching” is truly a serious problem in the Church. We have a right to the truth and to solid Catholic teaching from the pulpit, and we’re not getting it.

…We’ve been fed spiritual junk food for so many years, it’s no wonder some turn their noses up at meat and potatoes.
The fact you wrote the words you did in the manner you did points out the division well. I like it.

I do like Father Corapi, but he isn’t perfect (just like me!😃 )

That’s why I would suggest that anybody who watches him should try to watch several different shows; and by several I mean really at least 40-50–and not just ‘skimming’ but paying attention 100% through the whole show. A person really cannot make an informed judgment (IMO) about a person based on just a few instances.

Watching plenty of shows gives you a much better idea of the context Fr. Corapi operates in, gives you a better feel for his temperament, his subjects, etc. So you have a much better foundation for judgment of the man and of his messages.

No, Fr. Corapi is not perfect. Sometimes he may not just ‘seem’ arrogant, he may actually ‘be’ arrogant (I can’t tell his heart and mind though).

But if all I take away from watching this is my own judgment ‘against’ him, rather than consideration of his message, I’m missing the point, or so I believe.

Focusing on the faults of others keeps us from turning our attention to our own faults, quite often. That’s what I’ve found, and boy is that something I need to struggle against.

I love Fr. Corapi. His sermons are not watered down. He tells the truth whether it’s fashionable or not. Watered down sermons are boring and put me to sleep.
and unlike parishes, he decided to skip the tax exempt status so he wouldn’t be limited in what he can and cannot say in public. He can afford to be direct, parish priests run the risk of facing the IRS if they did the same

I will be joining the church on easter. And to be totally honest without EWTN and especially Father Corapi’s truthful, Holy spirit led sermons over the years I may not have joined for several mor years, or maybe never. I think he is a great man who only wants the best for the catholics who are completely going on the motions, and not the meaning behind them.

My advice to you PaoloFreire2 is this: keep listening and waching! When I started watching Father Corapi, my husband used to run from the room too - “that voice!” he’d say. Then I suggested he just listen and let me know when he disagreed with Father Corapi - it’s a couple of years later, and I’m still waiting for him to let me know! We have both learned so much about the faith from this wonderful man - Father Corapi is a gift to all of us.

I have heard that Father Corapi has body guards
This is one thing I’m not a fan of. Why should a priest have body guards? Should he not be willing to joyfully give his life for the faith? I wonder about that. Other than that 1 criticism of him, I love the guy. Love his topics, love his in-your-face approach, love his voice, love his willingness to address “touchy” subjects.

I’m glad he has bodyguards…I hope he has a bunch of them. I’m pretty sure his feelings are that he is here to teach, not be a martyr. Though I’m sure if presented the option, he would give his life for the faith, he is going to protect himself as sensibly as possible when in public. Who knows what crazies are out there.

I love Fr. Corapi. DH and I saw him in person last May, and it was a wonderful experience. He is so knowledgeable about our faith and whenever I listen to him I feel like I either learn something new, or learn a new way of looking at what I already know and how it can improve my spiritual life. If only all priests had his zeal for the Truth…can you imagine? How incredible would that be!

I myself am extremely grateful that he is who he is and does what he does. He aided my return to the Church in a great way. God bless him!

Why don’t you start by telling us what kind of Catholic you are. Do you believe everything the Church teaches? Do you pick and choose?
If you answer these questions, then I’ll know exactly why you dislike Fr. Corapi.
Only a liberal will dislike an orthodox priest.

Oh, I don’t know. I think you can learn a lot about a person based on who his enemies are. There are certain people in the world who, if they approved of me, I’d have to start wondering what I’ve been doing wrong.

Whenever I mention about praying the Rosary and how great it is, I bring up Fr. John Corapi as an example. 🙂

So tell us, which Church teaching do you dissent from?

Sometimes the truth hurts. Father Corapi tells it like it is. He doesn’t water down the Gospel, he speaks the truth. If you open up the Gospels you will hear it no less harsh from Jesus. Many of the things Father Corapi says you can see that he draws from his master – Jesus Christ.

This is the preaching the world needs, this is true Catholicism.

Can you imagine yourself hitting the Apostle Paul… or dare I say – our Lord Jesus Himself? You will find words no less harsh there…

God Bless

Just as many posters have said before, Father Corapi is just like his Lord and Master Jesus, (Even more so since he’s a priest, and priests are In Persona Christi) Never afraid to speak the Truth even at the cost of people hating them and trying to destroy them.

Jesus’ preaching aren’t wishy-washy-feel-good-watered-down-pabulum messages. They were direct and to the point. Many were scandalized and offended by His message as they Jesus was unafraid. The Truth does hurt more than a lie.

For example, the whole of Matthew 23 has Jesus preach against the Scribes and Pharisees, calling them Hypocrites, Frauds, Brood of Vipers, Blind fools, Serpents, and Whitewashed Tombs.

Here’s a part of it:
23: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
24: You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!
25: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of extortion and rapacity.
26: You blind Pharisee! first cleanse the inside of the cup and of the plate, that the outside also may be clean.
27: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.
28: So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Certainly Jesus is more stronger since I’ve never heard Father Corapi call people Hypocrites, Blind Guides, Murderers of Prophets or Deserving of Hell.
Of course, you would not imagine to hit Jesus, would you?

I have met Father Corapi several times and he has inspired me to strive to live a holy life. My experience has been that when people get upset with Father Corapi, they usually have some church teachings that they object to as well. This may not be the case but to hurl insults at this holy priest is uncalled for. He does not “bark” at people; he speaks the truth in love and preaches forgiveness in Christ. He is not “hamming it up”. Who is being uncharitable here? Father Corapi is as charitable as it gets. If you can post on this board that you believe ALL the moral doctrines of the Catholic faith and you still have a problem with Father Corapi or Mother Angelica then I just chalk it up to a difference of personality. If you have a problem with the things they say, you can rest assured that the problem is yours. If it is just the way they say it, that is a matter of personal taste.

Amen and well said.

I think it is extremely important to keep in mind that Almighty God Himself chose this man to be one of his holy priests. Not only chose him - but chose him in a most unusual and miraculous way (watch his conversion story) - for a REASON.
God’s children today NEED a Father Corapi. Many Father Corapi’s.

I think if you read St. Paul you can certainly imagine his sterness and abruptness being very similar to Father Corapi.
No one seems to take issue with St. Paul.
Is it because God chose St. Paul you say?
Well, he chose John Corapi too. A modern day apostle. For sure.

The “thundering velvet hand” style is how I would describe Father Corapi. And it is exactly what we need today!
God knows what He is doing.👍

I thought this thing died or got deleted. Wow.

Well, again…I don’t like people barking salvation into my face. Nope. Ain’t a Marine and don’t wanna be one.👍

"GET TO CHURCH!!! HIT IT!!! DO IT NOW, PRIVATE!!! I MEAN NOW!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"👍

Nope. Ain’t a Marine and don’t wanna be one.👍
That’s why I don’t particularly care for his style. If that’s what I wanted, I would have joined the military. I’m not a military type and will never be. God bless those who are, but not everybody is cut out for that sort of thing.
