no better or worse than in the USTo tell you the truth, it’s not surprising. Sad, but not surprising. The Catholic education and morality in Canada is much worse off than it is here. And it’s pretty bad over here.
Absolutelybut a bad role model for children and can lead to sexual abuse including the advocating their sexual immoralities to the children.
Canada seems in worse shape than the U.S., if that’s possible.
Well lets follow what our Catholic faith says. It says nothing about retail but how can students learn about the faith if the teachers who teach it are not LIVING it.I agree that they should not be teachers but just what other jobs should they not hold? For example, if they work retail they are mostly going to be around the youth so should we ban them from that? How far does this go before we say they can’t hold any job and therefore can’t make a living?
The Church guides us in matters of faith and morals. Retail work doesn’t involve the formation of either. Having a lesbian teacher tell her classroom of children that she is “married” to another woman and that’s O.K. affects children far more than the lesbian manager at the Gap who says the same thing.I agree that they should not be teachers but just what other jobs should they not hold? For example, if they work retail they are mostly going to be around the youth so should we ban them from that? How far does this go before we say they can’t hold any job and therefore can’t make a living?
I don’t think thier position as teachers is such a bad thing - it’s homosexuals teaching at Catholic schools that is the issue.I agree that they should not be teachers but just what other jobs should they not hold? ** i studied in a catholic school and i had homosexual teachers. yet they did not show any sign of immorality. the following are my observations in that school (i am referring to some homo/bi teachers and some straight teachers):
How did you know they were homosexual? Did they tell you? Was it common knowledge? Did the adminstrators at this Catholic institution not care? Would you have the same opinion about somebody who volunteered at an abortion clinic? How about somebody that was an athiest? Did the Homosexuals receive communion while going to mass? If so - did it not bother you that they would receive in a state of grave sin (assuming they were active homosexuals)?
- they could teach better and more effectively than the straight teachers i had
- they are more active in church activities than the straight ones - they teach the choir, they volunteer in the outreach programs of the church, they volunteer as instruments/watchers for clean election…
- they are more compassionate than the straight teachers - they are willing to give advices.
- they respect their colleagues and students.
- they go to church more often than the straight teachers.**
I don’t think that anybody has a problem with homosexual teachers. It’s the teaching at Catholic Institutions that’s the issue. How can they - in good concience - express the views of the Church - teach the values of the Church - if they are living a lifestyle that contradicts Catholic Teaching.
I agree that there are "LGB"s who live decent lives. For Catholics, that would mean not living an active homosexual lifestyle and that is perfectly fine as a Catholic. Such a person, would not be “outting” him/her self as the OP indicated.some catholic schools accept homosexual teachers… they don’t judge people’s sexual orientation but their personality, skills and abilities. if they meet the school’s standards, then they are qualified to teach. they don’t necessasritly have to preach about religion because it’s the task of religion teachers. personal lives should not be talked about in classrooms… mind you, there are actually LGBs who live decent lives than most heterosexuals do. but, unlike politicians, these gays/lesbians don’t rant about the good things they do.
Teachers have to sign a contract that staes that they can be fired for “moral terpitude” (not sure about the spelling). At least that is what my conctact states.I agree that there are "LGB"s who live decent lives. For Catholics, that would mean not living an active homosexual lifestyle and that is perfectly fine as a Catholic. Such a person, would not be “outting” him/her self as the OP indicated.
Some Catholic schools, and many private schools, require that their teachers not only have the skills and abilities to be effective teachers but that they are able to serve as good role models for the children they teach. A person living an active gay lifestyle (publically sinning) would not be able to fulfill that part of the job description.
It isn’t really about being “around children”. We don’t expect retail clerks to be role models for our children. Nor do they spend 8 hours a day with our children instilling knowledge and thinking skills.
